At PetMedix, under the supervision of Dr. Marco Bardelli, I was involved in the R&D department, where the aim was the ideation of therapeutic mAbs (design and bioengineering) for companion animals, where my work included:

-CHO culture preparation for mAbs expression
-Antibody design bioengineering
-Transfection
-Protein Purification and Characterization (Chromatographic Techniques - HPLC & IEX)
-Protein Stress Tests 
-ELISA and SDS-PAGE assays

Previously Scientist for onsight COVID-19 testing at Cignpost Diagnostics Ltd  (Heathrow Airport). 

It was fun (at times) and hectic, but definitely learnt a lot from my colleagues during the pandemic times by seeing their work ethos.

Student research assistant in the lab of Prof. Egon Bech Hansen, where my work was two fold:

1)  The computational discovery of proteases that can hydrolyse a specific region of potato's total proteasome.

This task has been followed by:

-Using already established bioinformatics tools that are readily available on the web
-Identification of interesting peptides from potato  protein that have potential food applications, and not only.
-In silico investigation of the features that potato protein possesses and how those can be exploited further downstream in the process.

2) The promoter expression level assaying of several Lactococcus strains, with a focus on the expression of a particular outer-membrane protease, named PrtP. 

The focus was on:

-Developing fastidious minimal media for the growth of L. lactis. This objective will support the main goal which is to create a growth substrate that can support the discovery of novel L. lactis mutants that acommodate mutations prefereably on the PrtP protease.
-Potato protein hydrolyzation through the mutants and identification of their specific characteristics ( 
through sequencing, checking the proteolysis pattern  and the optimal protease functioning conditions ).

International Hellenic University

My thesis' project had as a major aim to identify the potential antimicrobial activity of several newly synthesized chemical compounds that could target the DNA gyrase of Escherichia coli. 

As Molecular Docking was our virtual screening method for identifying the most promising candidate compounds, diverse open-source bioinformatics tools have been used in order to succeed in discovering those that could be further studied not only in silico but also in vitro.

Noteworthy is that fact that the library of our tested ligands had been given for virtual screening through our collaborators at the Aristostle University of Thessaloniki, precisely from the School of Pharmacy of the same institution.

Weizmann Institute of Science

I won a scholarship from the Kupcinet-Getz International Summer Science School Program of
Weizmann’s Institute in Israel, to conduct research at the lab of Dr. Ilana Kolodkin-Gal’s, in the Department of Molecular Genetics. 

My project had to do with the expression level assessment of SKF, an allelopath cannibalism toxin in Bacillus subtilis. To assess SKF’s expression level, B. subtilis during growth was treated with the root exudates of various plants.
