Yeah, it was amazing at coding.


But developers discovered something weird that they've been hollering about on X for a while now. 


Claude Code wasn't just good at coding. 


It led to people saying "Why are they calling it Claude Code when it's good at *everything*??"


Organizing files. Analyzing data. Managing media libraries. Researching competitors. Building reports from messy inputs.



Turns out when you give an AI direct access to your computer - your files, your folders, your browser - and let it run commands locally, it becomes a general-purpose workhorse. 


People started treating it less like a coding tool (which is obv only good for developers) and more like a technical co-founder.


Okay, but there was a problem: You usually had to use a terminal. 


And that scared away everyone who wasn't already comfortable in a command line.

I'm furious about today's news. Elon's response to Grok's ability to create deepfake nudes of women and children? Not to put guardrails in place, but to *limit it to paid users.* This entire thing is horrific. 


Are we all watching this? 


THE PROBLEM IS NOT AI


The problem is not Grok - that's an LLM following a system prompt. 


It's people. Making terrible decisions.


Do you know how easy it would be to tell Grok to simply NOT do this? Everyone else does this. 


The EU's has ordered X to retain all internal documents related to Grok until the end of 2026. 


TRUST IS A CHOICE


We're in a critical moment for AI adoption. Trust is everything. When one of the most visible AI tools on the world's biggest platform enables harm to the most vulnerable people, it sets back the entire industry.


AI leaders have a responsibility here. Not just to their users, but to the people who never signed up to have their images weaponized against them.


This is about basic HUMAN decency. 


Do better.

My X feed is *exploding* with Clawdbot posts - everyone is obsessed. An actual agent, living in your machine, doing everything for you, open source. What is it? Is it for you? LOTS to unpack, but here's what to know: 


WHAT IS CLAWDBOT?


Clawdbot is an AI assistant you install and run on your own computer. But keep reading, people.


You text it like you would a friend or colleague - through WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack. And because it lives on your machine, you can give it permission to use your email, calendar, browser, files.


It's literally like having a virtual assistant who has control of your computer. 


Which means it can actually take actions: clear out your inbox and reply to simple emails, schedule meetings, check you in for flights, research stuff, track trends on X and LinkedIn, even post things for you on social media.


Alex Finn on X (he's big time) calls it the most powerful AI tool he's ever used.


He says "literally anything you can ask a human to do, you can ask Clawdbot."


One bonkers example from him:

He told Clawdbot to book him a table at a restaurant. When the website didn't work, Clawdbot used ElevenLabs to CALL THE RESTAURANT. On the phone. 


People are using this thing to schedule their lives, manage email, tell them what they should be doing next. It runs constantly in the background, going through files, deciding what's important, working on it. 


Again, literally like having an assistant.


Also, it’s it's open-source and free. 


You run it yourself, so it's more private than sending everything to external servers. It uses powerful AI like Claude for reasoning and planning. 


And once set up, it's always on - even when your phone is asleep. 24/7.


BUT IS THIS FOR YOU?


Olivia Moore from a16z spent a weekend setting it up and wrote a thoughtful take: she loves it, but doesn't think most consumers should try it yet.


Her reasons: 


The setup is more technical than you think - terminal commands, environment variables, debugging, API keys. 


The security implications are real - you're giving an AI agent access to your accounts. And it's easy to trigger things you don't want if you don't have the mental model to catch mistakes.


Her take: 


If you're technical and like to tinker, Clawdbot is incredible. 


If you just want an AI assistant that works, wait. The capability Clawdbot demonstrates is coming to consumer products soon. Let someone else package it for you.


Wait for the UI. And don’t go buying Mac Mini’s just yet - that’s the other big trend - people buy Mini’s so Clawdbot can live on it.


BIGGER LONG TERM PICTURE

Just to think about:


We stopped memorizing phone numbers and directions years ago. That turned out fine. But what happens when AI handles even more of our cognitive load? What will differentiate us then?


Worth thinking about. But right now, we have to figure out what tools like this mean for us today. The most informed will thrive - experiment and dive in.

New McKinsey research emphasizes that AI transformation requires "the unglamorous work of creating incentives and KPIs that encourage AI-first behaviors." Hear that? This is consistent in our training: AI adoption is not about age - it's about incentives.


There is a huge misconception that younger people are better at AI because they are more tech savvy or digital natives. THIS IS FALSE. 


And traps organizations into thinking that their most senior people will never be as good at AI. Even though the senior people are exactly who will move the needle in driving change in their organization! 


This is insanity, people. So let's talk about why this is about incentives, not generational.


First, here's what the study found (and kudos to the amazing authors of the work at McKinsey & Company - Dana Maor, Eric Lamarre, and Kate Smaje)

WHAT THE STUDY FOUND


McKinsey & Company found that the bottleneck isn't tools or technology. It's having enough business leaders who can bridge business problems with AI capabilities. 


McKinsey calls this the "second muscle" - domain leaders who own transformation end-to-end rather than delegating AI to IT.


But McKinsey isn't saying these leaders need to become technologists. They need to learn how to lead differently. 


And what actually moves the needle? Incentive design.

THE BIG MISCONCEPTION


When companies see uneven AI adoption, they almost always misdiagnose the cause. They see that students adopt AI fast. Entry-level employees adopt AI fast. But senior tenured folks? Executives? Slower.


The lazy conclusion: young people just "get it."


But that's wrong. We're confusing age with tenure.

WHAT IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING

Students using AI to learn faster? That's because their future prospects can change overnight. Massive incentive.


Entry-level employees using AI to impress leadership? That's because they can leapfrog their peers. Massive incentive.


Senior people who already know how to do their jobs, who've built reputations on existing expertise? The incentive calculus is completely different.

THIS IS NOT GENERATIONAL


A 55-year-old launching a second career has the same incentive structure as a 25-year-old new grad. A 32-year-old who's mastered their role faces the same adoption friction as a 58-year-old executive.


Position, not age. Tenure, not generation.

WHY THIS MATTERS

If you think AI adoption is an age problem, you'll wait for generational turnover.


If you recognize it's an incentive problem, you can actually fix it.

The WSJ just declared Claude Code is taking the AI world by storm. Meanwhile, AI failed me three times this weekend. But that's a good thing: Fallibility is the price of brilliance, in humans and in AI.

A brilliant new colleague makes a mistake. Do you fire them? Of course not. Their creativity comes with occasional errors. You provide oversight.


AI is the colleague, not the calculator. And most people haven't made that shift yet.

Gemini couldn't locate an email that was literally my most recent inbox message. Subject line: "Company X Deck." My prompt: "Find the email about Company X Deck."


My colleague Robert Haslam ran the exact same prompt. Found it immediately.


Claude Cowork - which the world is declaring to be close to AGI - nearly deleted an entire folder when I asked it to remove duplicate files. I caught it. It apologized.


ChatGPT kept losing context on a health question. Maddening.

Same tools everyone's hyping. Same tools that just fumbled basic tasks. And I'm not rattled - because I'm not treating them like calculators.


AI requires oversight. The people getting real value understand this. They're not waiting for perfect tools. They're learning to work alongside imperfect ones.

Tools change every few months. The skill that transfers is knowing how to collaborate with AI - the same way you'd manage a brilliant but fallible teammate.

As in, we can all create something that LOOKS good with AI. But is it? Probably not.


Maybe before you needed 10 graphic designers, now you need 2. Not because AI is better at design, but because it produces quality work faster. 


Before, at human speed, you needed 10 people. Now you need a few folks who can tweak, redirect, edit, approve.


AI can't do that.

Start using AI as a team below you. Augment what you do, not by replacing your thinking but by delegating to AI while you edit, approve, discern, guide.


This isn't about agents. This is still the chatbot stage. Don't get ahead of yourself. This is NOW.


But you have to upskill. Companies, if you want to grow and differentiate, the key is to turn everyone into managers.


Tons of software engineers are already doing this. The rest of us need to catch up.

Anthropic just released their fourth Economic Index report. 


They analyzed 2 million conversations with Claude - both consumer and enterprise - to understand how people are actually using AI at work.


The headlines are expected - no huge shock here: 


> Coding still dominates usage. 
> AI adoption is spreading faster across US states than any technology in the last century. 
> Productivity gains could add 1-2 percentage points to annual labor growth.


But here's the part I found startling.

THE COUNTERINTUITIVE DATA


Anthropic measured how much AI sped up tasks based on complexity:

> Simple tasks (high school level knowledge)? 9x speedup.

> Complex tasks (college degree required)? 12x speedup.


Read that again. 


AI helps MORE on the hard stuff than the easy stuff.

WHY THIS MATTERS FOR YOUR CAREER

We keep telling people "Find the boring, mundane tasks and assign them to AI."


But that will never differentiate you. 


Leaders don't notice you speeding up small tasks. They notice people rethinking how work gets done.


Everyone's using AI to clear their inbox, summarize meetings, write quick emails. That's table stakes now.


The real edge is using AI to punch above your weight on complex work. 


Strategic analysis. Synthesizing complicated information. Building something that would normally take you days.


That's the work that gets noticed. That's the work that protects your job.

NOT JUST CODING.


It's not about coding. It's about defined tasks. 


This is about understanding what drives value. Why were you hired? Why did you hire person X? What value did you decide they would deliver that was worth the compensation?


In other words, this is about you. It's about your team.


It's about the talent in your entire organization - who's going to get ahead, which organizations will differentiate, and which will become extinct.


Everyone's focusing on "AI is coming for software engineers." But that misses the point entirely.


AI is great at coding, yes. But AI is also great at writing, research, analysis, summarization. So why are SWEs the first to transform how they work?


Because coding is discrete work.


"Build this feature." "Fix this bug." "Refactor this function." SWEs naturally break their work into defined, hand-off-able chunks. That's the unlock. When you can clearly define a task, you can delegate it. When you can delegate it, you can manage it.


I say this all the time in workshops: Forget AI for a second. Think about your work. Think about what drives value in your particular role - not for the company, not for the department - for YOU and YOUR ROLE.

AI IS A HUMAN CHALLENGE, NOT A TECH ONE


Most knowledge workers don't work this way. Our jobs are broad. We juggle twelve things. We don't naturally think: "Here's a discrete task I can hand off and review."


So we use AI like a search engine. We ask it questions. We get answers. We move on.


Meanwhile, SWEs have quietly promoted themselves to manager.

THE REAL BOTTLENECK


It's not AI capability. AI can already do the work. The bottleneck is us - learning to define our work clearly enough to delegate it.


That's the behavioral shift Dario is actually describing. Not "AI will replace engineers." But "engineers figured out how to define, delegate, and review."


That's available to all of us. If we learn to think differently about our own work.
