A bit about me (aka how I accidentally built an empire in my pyjamas):

Back in 2016, I launched a UK accounting firm from the glamorous location of… my garage. With two babies on my hip and no idea what “free time” was, I dived in headfirst (and probably headlost). 

Honestly? I must’ve been craaaaazzzzzzy. But somehow, it worked.

Fast forward: awards were won, hundreds of clients joined the Smooth ride, and today Smooth Accounting has real offices (with walls and everything), and an incredible team that basically runs the show while I stir the pot from afar. 

Boom💥

In 2022, I packed my SPF and moved to sunnier shores ☀️ to launch Smooth Dubai, where we help people set up UAE companies and handle their accounting, tax, and VAT (the sexy stuff, obviously).

Oh - and I wrote a book coz why not - MOVING TO DUBAI - A Comprehensive Guide for UK Business Owners (available on Amazon to buy so off you pop to grab a copy thank you and please)

Now? I’ve got that elusive thing everyone bangs on about… balance. 

Work/life is working. And I spend my days helping other accountants grow their firms using AI, automation, and the kind of tech that makes Excel cry, all inside the Digital Accountants Club (DAC for the cool kids).

DAC is the place to be if you’re an accountant or bookkeeper who wants to ditch the spreadsheets and dinosaur vibes 🦖 for automation and innovation 🤖

I like to think I bring a bit of comedy to the usually grey and soulless world of accounting. I’m not afraid to ruffle feathers, shake up the status quo, or throw the odd sass grenade. You’ll find me on LinkedIn causing chaos, on YouTube being cheeky, or in the wild birdwatching (no, really) 🐦 #titwatch

I’ve seen some pretty vile commentary over the past few days mocking those who made the decision to leave the UK for Dubai, given the current situation.

Let’s be clear….. choosing where to live, work, and raise a family is a deeply personal decision. 

Just because there’s currently a worrying situation there doesn’t mean anyone made the ‘wrong choice’ or might start rushing back to the uk 🙄

Trust me.

What’s remarkable, and worthy of respect, is how the UAE have responded to this crisis:

🔹 The UAE have intercepted hundreds of projectiles using advanced defence systems, protecting civilians and infrastructure.  

🔹 Airspace was promptly closed to protect travellers and residents while ongoing threats were assessed.  

🔹 The UAE government has put in place emergency support measures for thousands of stranded travellers, including covering accommodation, meals, and flight rebooking costs during the disruption.  

🔹 Official channels have been providing consistent safety updates and directives for citizens, residents, and visitors.

This isn’t about endorsing one policy or geopolitical stance over another, it’s about acknowledging competent governance in a crisis, compassion for those affected, and respect for personal life choices.

Choosing to be somewhere that values security, infrastructure, economic opportunity, and swift public support isn’t something to be mocked. 

It’s something to understand, even if you wouldn’t make the same decision yourself.

Respect costs nothing. Empathy costs nothing.

Let’s try a little more of both.

Honestly, some of the comments are embarrassing. Do better.

I made a big decision for Smooth Accounting last month and it’s probably the biggest decision I’ve made in years. 

I’ve hired a CTA tax manager to join the team 😱

I will be expanding ‘Smooth Tax Advisory’ over the coming years and this is so huge because we’ve never had specialist tax people in house. 

We’ve been using chartered tax advisor consultants for ten years when anything was outside our scope or particularly complex. 

But since niching into helping entrepreneurs move to Dubai back in 2021, we are inundated daily with tax enquiries. 

All the standard residency stuff we have been doing in house, but when there’s trusts, inheritance tax, complex group structures, R and D, mergers, capital re structuring etc, we always outsource it. 

No more. 

Smooth Accounting and Smooth Dubai are going BIG!! 

This is step one of our huge growth plans and I’m so excited….

2026 will be our best year yet 🚀 🚀 🚀

It’s crazy what the British media would have you believe…..

In this past week alone we’ve had:

✔️ multiple Dubai enquiries
✔️ people looking to move out there
✔️ people wanting new accountants for their business
Or
✔️simply those needing tax advice from a firm that understands uk / uae tax

You’d think from the news headlines that the world is coming to an end! 

Yes it’s a worrying time for many, it’s unsettling for those living in neighbouring countries in the Middle East and everyone’s staying alert to guidance and advice.

But I don’t know a single Brit who’s looking to leave Dubai that actually lives there. 

I only know people still looking to move there and tons of people who are staying put. People still want help from us at Smooth Dubai 

We’ve even just offered a job to an extra Dubai team member a few days ago.

Why is the UK media the worst in the world for its doom and gloom? 

This is why I deleted the news apps years ago.

I just can’t 🙄🙈

They are attempting the worlds largest reading lesson. 

They’re expecting over 7000 school children to attend and I’ve got to count them all 😬

At what point should I tell them I’m rubbish at counting?

Wow what a day! The Guiness world record was smashed! 💪💪💪

The largest reading lesson ever with 6,715 children taking part at Fratton park and I WAS THE OFFICIAL AUDITOR. 

It was such a huge honour to be asked to be involved and Portsmouth Creates CIC did incredible putting this together for world book day. 

The sheer organisation that went into this was insane 🤯🤯🤯

The sun was shining and the kids all looked amazing in their outfits.

Well done to the school kids of Portsmouth you should be so proud!

We’re growing at Smooth Accounting, and we’re looking for a Client Manager to join our team and help us deliver exceptional service to our clients.

This is a key leadership role within the practice where you’ll own and nurture a portfolio of clients while leading your own pod of accountants and junior staff to deliver outstanding results. 

💼 The role includes:
• Managing a portfolio of UK and UAE clients (limited companies, partnerships, sole traders and self-assessment)  
• Acting as the main point of contact for your clients  
• Leading and supporting a small team (“pod”) and allocating work  
• Reviewing statutory accounts and corporate / personal tax work before it goes to clients  
• Maintaining excellent client relationships and high service standards  
• Identifying opportunities to add value and grow client relationships  
• Supporting the growth of the business through proposals and new client conversations  

At Smooth, we pride ourselves on speed, accuracy and exceptional client experience, and we’re looking for someone who shares those values and enjoys working in a collaborative, high-performing team. 

You’ll be:

✔️ ACA / ACCA qualified
✔️ Competent with Xero
✔️ in practice with at least 3 years practice experience 
✔️ highly experienced in statutory accounts prep and corporate tax
✔️ highly experienced in personal tax
✔️ highly experienced in uk VAT compliance

💰 Salary: £45k - £50k+ depending on experience
