Nonetheless, he couldn’t find a job in his profession and for his first 5 yrs in Canada he worked in survival jobs while crashing his confidence. He refers to these years as the years of nightmares and constantly losing his sleep not knowing if he would make ends meet.

Yes, that may be company policy (if your organization has such a policy), but don’t let that limit you.

You don’t have to stay in that organization, you can leave for a better opportunity.

If you believe that you have the skills, drive and ambition, then don’t let anyone hold you back.

Your career and livelihood comes first.

Will that organization consider not laying you off and waiting for a period of time?  No, they will not.  They will do what is right for the company.
I see too many people stay in a job that is stifling them and they stay out of fear.

Ask yourself, “What must I do to reach my goals?” Make a list of things to do.

Don’t waste your life in something that is not serving you. There are opportunities out there so go find them.

In the interview process ask insightful questions that will give you a good idea of company culture and support that you need.

Take control of your situation, don’t be blind. 

A sharp axe will chop down a tree quickly as opposed to a dull one.

If you are stuck in a job that is not bringing you joy, or of you are looking for a job, now is the time to dive deep into the heart of you.

Ask yourself:
What do I love to do? 
What makes me happy?
What will make me jump out of bed in the morning to get to?
How can I make a difference?
What is the legacy that I want to leave behind?

Then:
Go out there and meet people (aka networking)
Ask questions
Find resources 
Get support
Keep digging
Try new things 

Then polish yourself up and prepare to grab attention.
