Windstorm Insurance Network, Inc.® - Property/Windstorm Insurance Claims Industry Member Association

The Windstorm Insurance Network (WIND) is a B2B national association for the property insurance claims and legal industry. Through professional development, continuing education, and annual conferences, the group is the leading provider of industry insights for the property/windstorm insurance claims industry, property/windstorm insurance service providers, and industry consultants. 

As the association's executive director, I oversaw the day-to-day management and marketing of the Windstorm Insurance Network, Inc. and the annual Windstorm Insurance Conference, a 2,000-person international conference. 

My duties included strategic business development, marketing communication planning, event marketing, team management and member experience management. Specific personal skills include digital marketing, inbound/content marketing, email marketing, social media marketing/outreach, branding strategy, copywriting, website design, WordPress management, and conference/event planning and marketing.

As the lead marketer, I managed a team to plan, promote and host the annual (WIND) Windstorm Insurance Conference, which attracted nearly 2,000 attendees each year from across the U.S. and internationally.

Build Authority That Actually Converts (Without Losing Your Voice)

Ever been through HELL WEEK? Well mine started today. Every evening for the next 5 nights is full. However, I am feeling very grateful. Here’s why.

1️⃣ I closed TWO high-tickets clients the previous week. So now that's 3 this month. Yay. 💯

2️⃣ Met a sales closer, and will likely try to get him started on my sales calls when he is ready. This will save me time. Will ramp up my FB ad spend when that happens, likely next week. I am so glad to have FB ads that actually work!

3️⃣ That said, I am TAKING A BREAK THIS WEEK because this is the tech week for my new musical Rent, where I am playing my dream role of Collins and the show opens Thursday night‼️ I am super excited for this. 🤩

4️⃣ Month of fasting is tough for energy, but I am booking a 90 min nap daily, since the shows go late and I wake up 5:30am to eat.

5️⃣ I am feeling really grateful this week, including being part of great communities like TLB Club, Musical Theatre, Client Control, LinkedIn Top Voices, HoLT and more. So this is all a WIN-WIN-WIN feeling. 🔥

This week I am immersed in gratitude. I'm excited for our NEW website and my musical RENT. I can't tell you how super pumped I am for all of this.

HAPPY RAMADAN MUBARAK‼️ As we begin the month of fasting, may it be a time of health, happiness, spiritual growth that brings peace to your heart, ease to your mind, and blessings to your life. 

My favourite aspects of this month include:

1️⃣ Sitting with my family 2x a day for a meal. A rare treat with teenagers! 

2️⃣ The spiritual focus, a constant daily reminder of just being a better person.

3️⃣ Mental mindset improvement that comes with not eating or drinking anything.

4️⃣ The discipline of routine.

5️⃣ Family, food, and feelings.

I lost my voice. And I lost my confidence.
Weird to admit as a motivational speaker…

But it wasn’t my speaking voice. It was my singing voice.

20 years ago, I was deep in musical theatre.
🟣 Lead roles. Big bravado.
🟢 Even the occasional Elvis impression in my keynotes.

Then I became a Dad. 😍

And I sang constantly with my kids — Raffi, Les Mis, Led Zeppelin.
Home concerts. Car concerts. Dishwashing concerts.

Then something quietly shifted.

My kids got really good. 👏🏾

Nyal landed Harold Hill in The Music Man at 9.
Ryah landed lead roles too — and by 10 her voice was unreal.

They sang all the time at home. Sometimes in effortless harmonies.

And that’s when I stopped singing. 😲

Not because I didn’t want to…
but because I got so immersed in supporting THEM that my own voice went quiet. 

I played tracks, recorded videos, cheered them on, all with a stupid giddy smile. 😁

A year ago, they dragged me to Broadway karaoke. I agreed to sing… and panicked.
I went to the car and practiced several times. (It was “Anthem” from Chess the musical) 

It went well. 

And my kids FREAKED OUT‼️

“Dad… I didn’t know you could sing like that.”
“Why don’t you ever sing with us?”

I didn’t have an answer. 💯

Truth? I didn’t trust my voice anymore.
Some notes were gone. My falsetto was non-existent.

My confidence felt… expired.

Then last fall, I encouraged Ryah to audition for my favourite musical: Rent.

She looked at me and said, “Dad… you should go for it.”

My first instinct was to play it safe and aim small.

But I auditioned.

And I landed my dream role: Collins. 🔥

Even in rehearsals, I kept needing validation:
“Am I any good at this?”

So I did what I tell clients to do when confidence disappears:

I practiced. (A lot)
I asked questions.
I invested in a voice coach.

And slowly… the voice came back.

My falsetto returned. I hit a high A again.
Now I’m aiming for a high B — and when my coach offered an easier alternative, I said:

“I want to go for it.”

My show opens in TWO days!

Maybe my voice cracks.

But I’m not going quiet again.

Because here’s what this reminded me:

Confidence isn’t a personality trait.
It’s a practice.
