Now a bit about me: 

I'm a proud Mancunian, living on one of my favourite islands... Ibiza! 🇬🇧 ✈️ 🇪🇸 

For the last 25 years, I’ve mostly worked in sales, from door to door, to telesales and then into management where I’ve been proud to turn underperforming teams into top performing teams. I've worked in telecoms, marketing, financial services and more recently tech (SaaS). 

Over the years, I’ve also done stints in customer service where I’ve gone around the business looking at how different back-office functions can perform better, through a mixture of recruitment, staff training, new business processes or even new technology. I've created new roles and new teams that have gone on to make huge differences within the businesses. 

As you can see, from creating winning sales teams to fixing broken processes, my journey's been as varied as a British summer - which is why I packed my bags & jetted off! 💼 ✈️ ☀️ 

When I’m not working, you can find me in the following places... 

🏖 On the beach. 
💃 On the dance floor.
📚 With my head in a good book. 
🐶 Mooching around Ibiza with my dog. 
🧠 Learning new skills (more recently marketing).

With over 18 years' experience and an extensive network of legal professionals, I help clients solve even the most difficult recruitment problems, leveraging existing networks as well as headhunting, to find the right candidates to support and develop my clients' talent strategies.

I set up Sparkes Recruitment ⚡️, as an agency specialising specifically in permanent recruitment with a headhunting offering. 

Based in, but not limited to, God's own country - beautiful Yorkshire, I work with a wide range of clients from boutique, regional, national, and global companies. 

From Newly Qualified Solicitors to Partners, I work in partnership with candidates and clients to help inform and develop long-term career goals and recruitment strategies respectively.

I'm feeling super positive about it. After a really tough 2025, I quite literally limped across the finish line, with a foot that was still broken and painful.

I’m convinced this year has to be better, right?!

Thank goodness for eternal optimism, a survival skill when you’re self-employed.

I’m also coming off my favourite two-week social media break. It’s the best reset for the soul.

I also refuse to watch the news and still have no news apps on my phone, highly recommend!

So, how is it really going?! ⚡️

The first week back, you might remember my Monday post, full of spark and enthusiasm. Well, that spark is still there, but it’s only Thursday… and what a week it’s been already!

By Tuesday, my husband got called away for urgent work.

Then someone stole both of my green wheelie bins (why take both?!), so instead of a Christmas tree, I now have a festive corner piled high with recycling. 

To top it off, my youngest son’s school contacted me yesterday at lunch to say there was “a fire but not really a fire,” and to pick him up immediately. The school is now closed until Monday. First week back, right?

Oh, and the door broke…

On a huge positive note, I’ve been contacted by so many candidates looking for new opportunities; some new, and some I’ve worked with before.

If you caught my post yesterday, I predicted a lot of movement in the job market, and I’m still feeling super optimistic.

Every candidate feels urgent to me, so I’m working hard to secure them new roles, and the interviews are already coming in!

Digital decluttering ⚡ 

As you might know from reading my posts I'm slightly obsessed about decluttering physical spaces. 

Recently, I’ve applied the same principle to my digital world.

It’s been an insightful process. I’ve:

- Unfollowed countless outdated or irrelevant social accounts (ongoing project).
- Re-evaluated old professional connections that no longer align with my current network (also ongoing).

I'm think it's so important to curate my feed to reflect values and content that support a positive mindset. This isn't just for my LinkedIn, but my personal Instagram too. 

I do think just as we organise our workspace for efficiency, curating our digital intake can significantly impact focus and well-being. It creates space for meaningful content and connections.

The time is now ⚡️

The festive season is for reflection. January is for making that change.
