I’m back at my desk today.

January was draining. The start of February felt the same. A few interactions here left me burnt out and frustrated.

So I stepped away. I just logged off and chose my peace.

In that time, real life took priority. I attended a wedding. Prepared for my IELTS, scored an overall Band 8. Visited extended family. Took a small break.Did some shopping. Some cafe hopping.

And no, work didn’t stop.

Client consultations continued. New inquiries came in. Old clients stayed in touch.

One of my clients landed a six-figure role in New York.

That part reminded me, you don’t need to be constantly visible to be valuable.

Time away from the LinkedIn feed was time well spent.

One of my clients came to me with a solid finance background but a resume that read like a job description.

A mistake that I commonly see in resumes is vague timelines.

So many resumes mention only years of employment instead of full dates.

When you only write years, it can unintentionally create the illusion of job hopping. A hiring manager might assume shorter tenures than you actually had.

It also makes it harder to calculate your true years of experience. Someone reviewing your resume for 30 seconds is not going to do guesswork.

It also raises unnecessary questions about gaps.

If you write:
2018 – 2019
2019 – 2021

Was there a break in between? Was it continuous? Recruiters don’t know. And when things are unclear, doubt creeps in.

Take this example:
2020 – 2022

If you started in November 2020 and left in February 2022, that’s roughly 1 year and 3 months. But on paper, it visually looks like 2 years. That mismatch can backfire during background verification or interviews when dates are clarified.

The best practice is to always include month and year.

December 2016 – January 2020
March 2020 – August 2023

Your resume should reduce friction for the reader, not create small doubts.

Details matter. Especially the ones that look small.
