This profile breaks almost every LinkedIn best practice. And that’s exactly why people love it.

Welcome to episode 6 of LinkedIn profiles I study for no reason at all (or maybe there is a reason, who knows). 

This is the profile of someone who quit his job in tech to figure out his own path and his profile actually reflects that phase instead of pretending he has it all figured out.

Nothing about his personal brand is “perfect” by LinkedIn standards, and that’s intentional. The profile picture is good, the banner doesn’t explain itself immediately. It makes you pause and read which is weird. Pausing on LinkedIn?.

Now the headline: “I forgot how to be awesome.”
It’s not written for recruiters. It’s written for human connection. It’s different, and different makes people stop.

Entire top section breaks the unspoken LinkedIn rule of being instantly clear, optimized, and impressive. Instead, it chooses curiosity over clarity. And curiosity is what makes people stay.

The About section is on theme. It literally starts with: “I quit my job in tech because I couldn’t find joy in it anymore.” Instantly, the headline makes sense. If you’re wondering why he “forgot how to be awesome,” the first line answers it. 

From there, it’s writing, self-reflection, humor, and trying to understand the world. You can immediately tell this person is good with words.

Now the Experience section. He wiped everything related to his old jobs. The career coach inside me is screaming but honestly, it’s fine. Instead, he documents self-discovery and learning LinkedIn. It feels less like a resume and more like a teaser of what’s coming next. 

Skills match what he’s doing today. Newsletter is featured. There’s almost no noise on the profile, which is funny, because his posts are the exact opposite.

Posts are the real reason this profile works. Humor, existential crisis, hope, frustration, meaning, all blended together. He writes less, but every word lands. 

Serious thoughts balanced with memes, without feeling forced. He’s basically channeling his existential crisis through LinkedIn. I might be adding another one by writing this. Sorry.

One thing I’d tweak, add more video. He already has a presence. He’s funny. People would listen. Video would take this from interesting to hard to ignore.

According to best practices, this profile is a failure. And that’s exactly why it works. (defying LinkedIn works!)

Whenever he decides to turn this into something more formal, there will already be an audience waiting, ready to listen, trust, and pay. A win is a win, even if everything about it is a little weird.
