On the latest SellMeThisPen AI Podcast, I sat down with Thomas Waites of TW Sales, operator behind 3 successful acquisitions, and someone who’s built multiple high-performance sales orgs from scratch to unpack this exact mistake.

High performers don’t need pressure; they need support. If you treat them like losers, they’ll play like it. If you treat them like champions, they rise.

4️⃣ Reward behavior as much as outcomes
Crushing quota isn’t enough. If someone poisons culture, they’re a short-term win and a long-term loss.

If you want a team that keeps improving, you don’t build around the naturals.
