Based on analytic market research, Mr. Simkavitz founded FreelineUSA Inc. in 2003 as President and CEO of the company. Focused on the value added applications of IP Centric VoIP Voice, Data and H.264 Video Technology, FreelineUSA developed the FLUSA 800 Survivable VoIP communications system (sold to the US Gov., US Army and Sandia Labs). The FLUSA 500 Series H.264 secure video product, sold to over 100+ medium sized businesses. Other IP centric products include the CWDM (Course Wave Division Multiplexed) FLUSA 400 Optical Ethernet series (sold to the US Army) and the FLUSA 500 ODM Video Phones (also sold to government customers). The company also developed and filed patents for an innovative power passing armored fiber cable that has been field trialed by the US Army. Clients of FreelineUSA include multibillion multinationals such as Methode Electronics, the US Army, Sandia Labs, the State of Washington, Regional School Districts and more than 150 small to medium businesses that have purchased the companies Pro-Video 500 Series IP Video Security products. Making use of collaborative project development techniques much of the technical talent has been outsourced and retained by the company on a per-project, as needed, basis. 2012 saw product sale and installations in Mexico, Malta, USA and Canada.  Collaboration with virtual technical, product and marketing teams produced results for FreelineUSA with fewer resources than expected– in a highly competitive landscape.

Mr. Simkavitz provided guidance to high technology start-up companies such as Ishoni Networks, Amber Networks, Alopa Networks, MessageSoft, Salveo Systems and JooHong Ltd.  Mr. Simkavitz actively contributed to a variety of communications technology start-ups as an advisor in Silicon Valley including as an advisory board member to Amber Networks that ultimately sold to Nokia for more than $400 M.

Corporate Officer and VP of Business Development for ANDA Networks, a Bay Area startup developing multi-service access platforms. As a key executive charged with preparing for entry to the public markets he led the team that wrote the company’s S1 filing and actively helped in funding of the company; including the C & D rounds, resulting in pre-money company valuation of $650 million, and post money of $720 M, raising $ 70 million at $13.72 per share to fund company operations.

VP Business Development

Primarily focusing on international communications markets using HFC, millimeter band wireless, and optical products Mr. Simkavitz joined ADC as Vice President of International Marketing and Product Management. In this assignment he increased sales of $250M, improved margins and lowered international expenses across multiple ADC product divisions, including one division with 9000 separate line items. Much of these savings were generated through a unique “in-pat sales program” taking talented international employees temporarily to Corporate HQ to be immersed in ADC company culture and policies before being rotated (at much lower cost than a U.S.A. Ex-PAT) back to their home countries and markets.

Motorola Mobility (a Lenovo Company)

Joining UDS Motorola in 1990 as Director of USA domestic carrier marketing and product management he quickly advanced to Vice President of Motorola Inc.’s Multimedia Group- responsible for Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) voice and data access products worldwide. 

During his Motorola tenure, he defined product strategy and executed tactical marketing for a wide array of access products for wire line and wireless carriers.  Product lines included fiber and copper access and ultimately the high volume, low mix, Motorola HFC cable modem known as the Bit-Surfer/Surf-Board Cable Modem. This product was a runaway success for the Multimedia Group at 25M+ units leading the way for DOCSIS standards development in the Cable Television Industry and Moto’s entry into consumer broadband internet access delivering 22% pretax to Motorola’s bottom line.

General DataComm, Inc.

Joined General DataComm as a Sr. Systems Engineer, progressing to Regional Director, Mr. Simkavitz sold more than $8M annually and led a technical NAM team for the US West account.  In this capacity he collaborated with product and marketing teams to define new products such as generic digital services that used existing channel banks to dramatically lower customer costs and increase profits for GDC.

Mr. Simkavitz joined Sykes Datatronics researching and designing multiple software operations support systems for the RBOCs. In this capacity, he designed the OTAP (open trouble analysis and patterning system) sold to Pacific Bell for several million dollars. The OTAP lowered costs and quickly isolated network failures– i.e. real time regression analysis lead to quickly finding undetectable faults, such as bridge collapse or manhole filling with water.

Starting his career with AT&T’s Long Lines Operation Department he quickly progressed in management and technical sales support assisting the Hewlett Packard NAM team to exceed $20M in annual revenues. Leaving AT&T after ten years a tenured network software engineer.

Earning his MBA at the Univ. of Denver in 1987, he has successfully led teams and enhanced profitability of operating units within AT&T, General DataComm, Motorola, Newbridge, Anda, ADC, FreelineUSA and most recently NewlineUSA.
