The biggest lesson I've learned from having 3 viral posts in a row?






Nothing.





And any marketer who promises you virality doesn't know what they're talking about 🤷

You're not shadowbanned, your posts just aren't good.

Things people say about women at work (that I've personally heard or have had said to me) that would sound absolutely unhinged if said about men.. 

“He just needs to smile more in meetings.”

“He probably only got invited to that leadership offsite because he’s handsome.”

“I love his passion, but he really should wait his turn to speak.”

“He doesn’t have kids yet? Isn’t he worried about how that’ll look?”

“Is that.. a new shirt? Trying a little hard, don’t you think?”

“I don’t know if he’s ready for a senior role. He seems so young.”

“He should be careful not to come off as too ambitious.”

“He’s too friendly. People might get the wrong idea.”

“Not sure he can handle that travel schedule. You know.. with everything he’s juggling, two kids and all.”

If it sounds ridiculous when you flip it.. 
that’s usually your sign that something's up.

And while equality is the goal, we just aren't there yet.

And why is it LinkedIn?

Is it just me, or does this post sound EXACTLY like something ChatGPT would write?

The em dash isn't a giveaway of AI anymore. It never was.

But ChatGPT certainly has a specific style of writing, and this is it 👀

PS - I'm convinced that posts suggested by LinkedIn never were and never will be anything I actually want to see. Anyone else?

Sometimes I apply for freelancer roles via LinkedIn. Sometimes they work out pretty well.

But when I see these stats for an otherwise cool role, I wonder.. Do companies actually filter through allllll these applicants? Insights from recruiters would be greatly appreciated, I'm so curious 😅

It costs you literally nothing (except a few minutes of your time) to leave them a quick recommendation or offer to serve as their reference in the future. 

Or, if you're reaaaaally gonna say, "But Marina, I don't have the time!"

Then go endorse them for the top 3 skills relevant to your work together.

That'll take you less than a minute. Seriously.

But for them, it could be the difference between landing an opportunity in the future and being stuck without work or clients.

Look at this guy. An email will never find him. Nobody will ever accuse him of using ChatGPT to write his content. He's living in a better reality 🙂‍↕️

Any time I see content about learning English as a second language, it takes me back to when I was first learning it myself.

It surprises a lot of people, but even though I was raised in the US, English actually isn't my first language.

We actually came to the US from Russia when I was at an age where I could already communicate in Russian fluently.

And so many of my earliest memories revolve around being worried that I'll never master (or even learn!) English.

- Going to preschool and learning about the '-er' brothers (-ir, -ur, -er), only to feel like I'd never be able to memorize which word uses which spelling — this one really haunts me 😅

- Taking three times as long as my classmates to read those little books we were reading every week as 'tests'

- Being afraid to ask the teacher if I could go to the bathroom, just because I didn't know if I'd say it correctly

- Not having any friends to play with because I couldn't communicate to any of my classmates

My early memories of learning English aren't the most positive, but as you can see, I got past the negative experiences and replaced them with some positive ones.

These days, any time I have to or want to learn something new, I think back to what little Marina was going through when she first came to the US. How difficult and scary it was, but how she managed to overcome it. 

And, as cliche as it may sound, that's a big part of what motivates me to keep going when I encounter difficulties these days. 

If that shy, foreign little girl could figure it out — even with parents who couldn't help her in her most challenging times (they didn't speak English either) — then adult Marina can handle anything.

What was the first language you ever learned?

Propaganda I’m not falling for as a content marketer going into 2026:

- The algorithm rewards consistency

- Nobody reads long-form anymore

- Video is the only format that matters

- A good product markets itself

- SEO is dead

- One viral post = pipeline

- You can do it all in Canva, for free

- Just post more memes

- Thought leadership = posting unoriginal quotes on a gradient background

- MQLs are the only metric that matters

- AI detectors can actually tell the difference

- Your CEO’s hot takes are the content strategy

- Content audits fix everything

- No one needs an editor anymore

- PDF whitepapers = gated gold that'll bring in hot leads 

- Blogs are dead (again)

- Community is just a Slack channel or LinkedIn group

If Hallmark can remake the same Christmas movie every year and get away with it, you can reuse your old LinkedIn posts 💜

Me: Cool cool cool. Then maybe stop notifying me when someone I met once at a conference in 2019 edits their headline?

LinkedIn: Not a chance. Also, they just edited it again! You almost missed it 🙂

Me: Alright. Last thing. Why do my posts randomly explode one week and vanish the next?

Linkedln: Oh that? We spin a giant wheel every morning. Yours just didn't land on "visible" today. Now gimme 600 bucks for Premium.

Be skeptical of AI. Be skeptical of autocorrect. My Outlook's AI-powered autocorrect seems to think I'm a pirate 😂

They're just so easy to fake.
