Ever since I was a kid. Little did I know it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. 
So that’s when it all changed and my journey really began.

Hi, my name is Ely, and it all started in 2017..

I decided to leave a career of almost 10 years working for corporate.

I travelled all across the globe working for big time worldwide companies.

Perhaps you might know Jonhson & Johnson or MARS? 

Well, if you don’t know them, I’m 100% sure you consumed at least one of their products in your lifetime.

Either way, I was there as an IT Project Manager because I always loved tech.

But the problem was: I also loved entrepreneurship. And I’ve always had a natural talent for sales too - I loved selling stuff to my friends when I was a kid.

But my career in IT didn’t enable me to develop these skills much.

So that’s when I met Marketing. And it just clicked. So then, I planned to leave my job in 2017.

And that’s what I did. 

When I embarked this journey, I decided I wanted to combine two of my passions: marketing and tech, and it just made total sense.

Considering my background of 10+ years working with IT, I think it made me a good fit for that!

And so, I've been impacting consumers and companies worldwide ever since.

Created a £75m+ GMV profitable new vertical in UK & 10 International markets (inc. France, Italy, UAE, Hong Kong). Selected accomplishments include:
1) Built Launch Strategy - led business cases and operating plan. Managed cross functional team to validate opportunities including Finance, Strategy & Consumer Research. Secured C-suite sign-off to launch.

2) Created Proposition - set vision for consumer and commercial proposition (price, service, selection). Co-led Product development roadmap with technology teams. Worked closely with HQ and local marketing and PR teams on tone-of-voice, campaigns and customer cohorts and segmentation.

3) Secured Partnerships - led negotiations for 20+ UK partners and 15+ international partners including Waitrose, Morrisons, Aldi, Co-op, M&S, Majestic, Carrefour, Casino Groupe, 7-Eleven. Determined deal dynamics and led work with commercial legal teams. Built playbooks so success could be repeated by local teams.

4) Established Operational Rigour - development of best-practice playbooks covering customer acquisition and retention, in-app and in-store processes, SKU ranging and marketing. Led to significant KPI improvements (e.g. double-digit conversion %+).

5) Built & Led Teams - recruited and developed a UK team of across account management, operations and ranging (8 people). Replicated model across international markets (10 people). Established and led cross-functional ways of working with HQ Product, Marketing, PR and Insight teams.

Global Director, Grocery

Making it easier, simpler and quicker to find healthy, vegan and plant-based food on the Deliveroo platform.  Led development of new proposition. £10m+ additional GMV, 180%+ orders and 250%+ in selection. Improved customer metrics (e.g. acquisition, retention, average order value). 

Selected accomplishments include:
1) Created Value Proposition - used data and customer profiling to identify growth opportunities (e.g. customer segments, locations and cuisines to target). Launched in the UK and UAE.

2) Defined Product Requirements - led work with Product teams to create features to make it easier, simpler and quicker for consumers to find food e.g. healthy shortcuts, filters and algorithms.

3) Built Partnerships - built strategy to attract new healthy restaurants and brands to the platform. 20+ new partners,100+ new sites, making us the #1 food delivery platform in the UK for healthy and vegan eating.

4) Led Investment - led creation and launch of a £1m fund to invest in healthy brands and partnerships, including developing own brands with leading nutritionists and restaurant partners.

Director of Healthy Food Strategy

Led a team (4 people) working with UK&I MD to drive high impact projects / strategic decisions to improve unit economics and the P&L. Selected accomplishments include:
1) Established Strategy Framework - worked with Finance to create a planning framework with clear vision, objectives and KPIs. Introduced and led 1⁄4 strategy process to drive growth and profitability. Led weekly P&L review meetings to identify pain points and opportunities for growth.

2) Led Troubleshooting - fixed pain-points and cross-functional issues e.g. rider supply funnel improvements, organisational design (central vs. local) and improved geographical expansion approach (product market fit).

3) Team Turnarounds - rebooted Commercial Partnerships team including setting KPI’s and go-to market approach. Established £2m+ pipeline. Did the same for the Packaging, leading to £1m+ ancillary revenue.

4) Created Operating Model - developed and implemented mechanisms to drive input level performance across all functions and teams e.g. organisational design, business planning and RACI frameworks.

Drove growth and customer retention via incubating and launching new ventures in sport, entertainment and business services. 

Responsible for developing propositions, business cases, go-to market launch plans and negotiating commercial deals and M&A opportunities.
