Growing up, Melvin wanted to be an e-sport professional, supports Arsenal football club and now often playing tennis

Seeing how his mentor bought time with his family through investments, motivated him into the finance industry. 

Currently, Melvin leads a team of North Asia Relationship Managers and Acquisition Managers.

✨ A small service recovery that left a big impression ✨

I went on a weekend staycation at Mama Shelter Singapore, booked via Agoda. It was actually my second time staying at the property 🏨

As an ALL Accor member, I understood that booking through a third party meant certain privileges like late checkout would not apply and that was fair. Unfortunately, I was feeling quite unwell during the stay 🤒 and coupled with some service lapses across both visits which I won’t go into here, I expressed my frustration at the front desk and mentioned that I likely wouldn’t return.

What happened next genuinely surprised me 👀

When I returned to my room later that evening, I found a plate of pastries 🍰 along with a service recovery note from the team. It was a simple gesture, but at that moment, already feeling sick, it truly made me feel heard and cared for 💛

👏 Kudos to the staff for listening and taking action. Not because it was extravagant, but because it was thoughtful, timely, and human.

💡 Lesson learnt
How often do we really listen to a client’s complaint or feedback?
And once we hear it, what do we actually do to recover the service?

This is especially important in Private Banking. Service recovery should never be limited to only highly profitable clients. Every client matters, and how we respond when things go wrong often leaves a stronger impression than when everything goes right.

Sometimes, it’s the small, sincere gestures that make the biggest difference 🌱

🎨 Walking Through Art, Even When the Body Says No

Attended the ART SG Vernissage this evening, despite feeling a little under the weather 🤒
Still, I managed to walk through both levels, taking in a spectacular range of artworks.

Interestingly, I didn’t take many photos 📸
Just one piece, or rather nine pieces, that truly resonated with me.

A set of nine paintings inspired by Chinese shan shui (mountains and water) 🏔️💧
Quiet. Grounded. Powerful. The kind of work that doesn’t shout, but stays with you long after.

Why talk about art?

Because beauty is always in the eye of the beholder ✨
And perhaps, when one can truly appreciate art, it means you’ve lived long enough and experienced enough to search for deeper meaning in life beyond the obvious.

On a side note, my interest in art goes beyond professional relevance.
Yes, art often intersects with private banking and wealth conversations 💼
But for me, it has always been a personal passion ❤️

I am no expert, just sharing my experiences.
Over the years, I’ve also had the privilege of organizing several art events for my clients, creating spaces where appreciation, dialogue, and connection come together.

How serious am I about art?

🎓 I completed an Art Wealth Management certification with One Art Nation
🎤 I was invited by the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and CAIA Association to share insights on Art as an Alternative Investment

Art speaks differently to everyone, and that is what makes it timeless.
