NightstaRx is a Syncona backed company established to pursue the gene therapy treatment of Choroideremia to prevent the deterioration of eyesight in patients with this X-linked disease which causes loss of sight during the mid 40-50 years of life. Early clinical studies by Robert MacLaren have shown promising efficacy and good safety. The therapy for this indication is to replace the faulty REP1 gene in the eye with a functioning copy in an AAV vector. NightstaRx aims to gain regulatory approval for this therapy with ensuring GMP of the product and agreeing the pivotal clinical path. Www.nightstarx.co.uk

Syntaxin was a successful biotech spun out of the HPA that was developed by myself and my management team, with the help if course of our excellent scientists, to a stage for acquisition to ensure the further investment in the recombinant botulinum toxin technology. Ipsen acquired Syntaxin in July 2013 and the site continues as Ipsen's centre for toxin engineering, complementing well the Ipsen expertise in toxin biology. I left Syntaxin with the acquisition and now work through Think10 as I discuss new opportunities.
