here's the perfect story for you.
 
Former client called me while I was making dinner yesterday.
I always pick up for them.
"Good news??" (Smiling from ear to ear over here)
 
"Turned in my notice!" I heard them yell.
 
Not from the job we helped them transition out of.
But from the one we helped them get.
 
When we met two years ago,
they were raising support making $45K per year.
 
The new job we helped them get was close to $200K/yr.
This new one is almost $300K/yr.
 
 
6X increase in compensation since June 2024.

tbh, I've never been the pray all the time guy.
At least not naturally.

But a simple text,
"You came to mind, how can I pray for you?"
or even
"Grateful for you"

Goes a long way.

In 2018 I left what I thought was my dream job.
In 2019 I was almost fired at my next one.
In 2020 I was laid off. It was the best thing that ever happened to me.
 
Getting laid off was the starting point.
It was the permission we needed to become entrepreneurs.
 
But...
 
I didn't want to be a career coach.
I just kind of fell into it.
 
When I left my job at a church (which was really challenging), I found myself getting texts and calls from co-workers and friends working in ministry saying,
"I'm trying to do that. Can you help me do that?"
 
Then 2020 hit.
Duhn, duhn, duhn.
 
Like so many, I was laid off.
And my phone started buzzing again.
People asking for career help.
 
At first it was friends.
Then it was friends of friends.
Then something wild happened.
 
Someone offered me money for my time.
then ANOTHER person!
 
💡 Wait, you can get paid to do this?!
 
And instead of getting a job,
(much to the chagrin of my in laws... and probably parents)
We went all in on Launch Point.
 
 
If the last 5 years has taught me anything...
I've learned to "watch for the signs."
 
My whole life I was taught to
• putting my head down
• following the crowd
• doing what I was told
rather than watching for the direction that God was pointing me in.
 
When that first person paid me, then another, that was the beginning.
 
Since then the adventure hasn't been as much building a business as it has been to see what and who are being put in front of me today how am I uniquely positioned to serve those people while supporting my family.
 
It has definitely been unconventional, but saying "yes" to the signs has led to a full life!

Wait, where did you hear this?
 
I know these are the headlines.
It "makes sense logically."
 
But deciding to slow down or stop your job search based on general data or headlines is a terrible reason to slow down.
 
In fact, it is a great time to get serious.
 
4 things going for your job search during the holidays.
1) If you're thinking this, then other people are too. And they aren't job searching right now. That lowers the competition pool for you.
2) Top performers likely aren't trying to get hired... yet. They're hoping for holiday and end of year bonuses. They're not going to exit before getting a pay day. Which also lowers the competition pool.
3) Not every company operates on a Jan-Dec fiscal year. There are no tax or bonus incentives if December 31 is in the middle of their Q2. (I got hired by one of these on December 3)
4) Hiring does ramp up in January, but interviews still happen before then. Some organizations have their top candidates in mind already and are just waiting for the new year to send the offer. But that means they are interviewing in November and December.
 
If I was a job seeker right now, I'd be
• doubling down on looking like an attractive candidate. Resume, LinkedIn, cover letter.
• getting into as many conversations as possible as many people are not working as hard and have more flexibility in their schedule.
• moving towards interviews with the expectation that I could get an offer in January... but it could be sooner!
 
 
Don't just follow the headlines.
There is good work to be done right now.

Someone else offered a job yesterday.

Look at what is really going on. Not just headlines.

Google says it takes 5-8 months to get a job.
 
I made a list of things that help you get a job faster.
 
 
Here's what is in your control:
• the type of job you're looking for
• the time of year you're applying
• the compensation you want
• do you want remote, hybrid, or in person
• are you willing to move
• what your background is
• what level of responsibility you want
• what industry you're looking in
• what size company you prefer
• who you know
• who you are willing to get to know
• if you have the right qualifications when they are hiring 
• are you willing to do what it takes to adjust your strategy
• are you willing to sacrifice time and energy to focus on the goal
 
Here's what is out of your control:
• if an organization is hiring in that moment
 
 
Yep. That's about it.
You have more agency in your job search than you think.
