I worked for a large corporation when I moved to South Carolina in 2010. I called up to “corporate” one day to ask for a few hundred dollars to sponsor an event for a local non-profit.

“Matt, we just don’t get involved at the local level.”

I remember this conversation as clear as day. My family and I were putting down roots in South Carolina and wanted to be a part of the community. For us, this meant supporting the causes we care about and being a part of a company that cared about our community.

I served as Executive Editor of a monthly magazine reaching more than 250,000 readers, a quarterly devotional distributed to more than 350,000, and numerous hardcover, trade, and specialty books, as well as multimedia curriculum products. 

I have enjoyed writing extensively for news publications through print, digital, and web platforms, establishing and managing social media outlets, spearheading public relations efforts as ministry spokesman, and fielding media requests from outlets such as The Boston Globe, The Austin American-Statesman, The Dallas Morning News, U.S. News & World Report, Fox News, and others.

Director of Communications

Promoted from a consulting role to a perm position in order to direct all digital content creation and management during the critical transition of this national ministry. 

In collaboration with Education and Internet stakeholders, I created online educational courses, including: original writing and editing, oversight of contract writers, editors, and designers, creation and implementation of marketing campaign to launch new educational initiatives. 

I directed creation and distribution of all web content on corporate public site, including daily news, corporate history, product advertising, event promotion, and media distribution.

During the expansion of this national organization, I was contracted to develop an online professional development training program, which included 33 courses within 5 topical modules, automated testing and grading, reading assignments, and final exams. Throughout product development, I hired additional writers and editors, and created a marketing plan for global distribution. Hired by and reported to the CEO.

Reporting directly to the Founder, I directed all creative, editorial, and print production of monthly newsletters, books, marketing brochures, direct mail initiatives, etc..

As a hands-on manager, I wrote and edited copy for newsletters, donor appeals, books, chapters, articles, speeches, advertising, and interviews. I supervised the editorial department staff and contracted designers, editors, and agencies.

During my tenure, I successfully reorganized the editorial format and doubled the size of monthly news publications, resulting in increased reader response and revenue.
