Senior Program Manager

·	Delivered on-time multi-million-dollar facility expansion and renovation projects to enable the 737 Program to meet higher production rates, including the new 737 Delivery Center.  This resulted in improved customer and employee experiences.

·	Led projects with global teams of over 100 members that produced record production rates on the 737 Program, resulting in annual revenue increases of $16 - $20 billion.

·	Selected as Program Management Leader for the P8 military aircraft, leading value stream mapping workshops, employing Lean principles and eliminating waste, resulting in decreased flow times and increased production efficiencies, leading to an extra $5.4 billion revenue for the program.

Most organizations don’t fail because they have too many projects.

👉 They fail because they have too many projects for the people they actually have.

In today’s environment, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 — yet it’s still the least understood.

PMOs have traditionally focused on schedules, budgets, and status. But the real bottleneck isn’t timelines.

It’s 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.

Without that visibility:

🔷 Leaders approve more initiatives than the organization can absorb
🔷 High performers burn out
🔷 Critical work slows down
🔷 And strategy quietly dies in the queue

This is why resource management has become the new battleground for PMOs.

Modern PMOs must answer three questions with confidence:

🔸 What is everyone actually working on?
🔸 Do we have the right skills for our highest-priority initiatives?
🔸 What happens if we approve one more “top priority” project?

When PMOs bring real capacity planning and skills visibility into portfolio decisions, something powerful happens:

🔷 Trade-offs become visible
🔷 Priorities become real
🔷 And leaders stop overcommitting the organization

The orgs I have worked with that have embraced this soared, whereas those that didn’t struggled.

👉 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀.

And the PMO is the place where 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.
Not by saying “no”…

But by 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 “𝘆𝗲𝘀” 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀.

That’s how PMOs protect both delivery and people — and why resource management is now a leadership capability, not an administrative one.

🚨 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗣𝘂𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗠𝗢 — 𝗼𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 — 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

In too many organizations, PMOs are brought in 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 projects are already approved, funded, and politically committed.

The message is: “Just go fast. We’ll figure it out as we go.”

But that shortcut quietly removes the most important part of successful delivery: 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁-𝗘𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗙𝗘𝗟).

FEL is where the real value is created:

🔷 Proper intake and prioritization
🔷 Clear success criteria and business outcomes
🔷 Resource and capacity planning
🔷 Risk and dependency assessment
🔷 Scope boundaries and decision rights

When FEL is done well, projects don’t just get delivered — they deliver 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀.

When FEL is skipped, even great execution teams struggle to produce the outcomes leaders expect.

Here’s where PMOs get trapped.

If the PMO tries to slow things down upfront to do the right work, they’re told: “You’re bureaucratic. You’re slowing us down.”

If they skip FEL and just push projects into execution, the projects underperform…and the PMO is blamed anyway.

That’s a 𝗻𝗼-𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼 — for the PMO 𝘢𝘯𝘥 the organization.

Organizations that want better outcomes must stop treating planning as friction and start treating it as 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Here’s how to set PMOs and projects up for success:

🔷 Bring the PMO in at 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, not after approvals
🔷 Use 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 instead of political demand
🔷 Allow time for 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁-𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱
🔷 Define 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 before work begins
🔷 Validate 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 before committing to timelines
🔷 Make 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲-𝗼𝗳𝗳𝘀 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 when everything can’t be done

Speed without direction doesn’t create agility — it creates rework, burnout, and wasted investment.
