Some of the highest-paying jobs in tech right now aren't in engineering.

The premium skill isn't coding. It's communication. 

I'm seeing companies aggressively hiring people who can think clearly, shape narrative, and translate complexity into something humans actually understand.

Netflix has a Director of Communications role posted for $775K. 
Adobe is hiring AI storytellers. 
Anthropic tripled the size of its communications team last year.  
OpenAI has multiple communications roles with salaries over $400K.

I don't think that's random. As AI automates execution, the bottleneck shifts upstream.

The leverage moves to:

Technical capability is quickly becoming table stakes for everyone in an org.

GTM leaders are showing each other their AI projects like kids at a show-and-tell. I mean that as a compliment.

Yesterday I sat in a room in Seattle with a small group of Pavilion members (shoutout to Matt Bernardy for leading this meetup). Head of Sales and Marketing, fractionals, and a CEO. All in-seat operators, running numbers, accountable for outcomes. .

We came to talk about how we're using AI in our jobs. For ourselves and for our teams.

Two things became clear fast.

1) Most companies don't have a single owner of their AI strategy. No one person is accountable for how AI gets adopted across the org. The result is predictable. Every team picks its own tools. Data lives in silos. Call transcripts in one place, repos in another, customer intel in a third. Security gaps open up. And worse, there's no internal leverage. No compounding.

The companies doing this well right now are driving it from the top down. Centralizing data, tooling, and standards so the whole org benefits, not just the individual who found a clever prompt.

The second thing was more fun.

2) People pulled up their laptops and showed what they'd built. Websites. Video edits. Vibe-coded prototypes. Internal agentic workflows. Nearly everyone was using Claude Code or Claude Cowork. Giddy. Proud. Eager to share.

The issue though...most of what people built was useful to them, but not everyone else.

People are building these small tools, tailored to their specific problems, that make them dramatically more productive.

The competitive advantage isn't the tool - it's the operator who knows how to combine tools with judgment and context to solve real problems.

For example, Ultrarunners don't win races with the best shoes. They win by knowing exactly which gear works for their body, on that terrain, in those conditions. The runner who tests and dials in their kit across hundreds of training miles has a massive edge over the one who shows up with brand-new equipment on race day.

Needless to say, the gap between operators who are building and using their own AI toolkit and those who are waiting for permission is getting wider every week.

- Have grown the US SDR Team from 0 to 12 and APAC Team from 0 to 8. Managed SDR Managers in both territories and an org of up to 20 SDRs.

I was hired to build out an Enterprise Sales Development org and the team from scratch.  

Here's what I've been up to at Aduro: 
- Implemented sales development tech stack and connected everything to SFDC as a single source of truth, that includes Outreach.io, LeadIQ, ZoomInfo, Hubspot, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Drift. 
- Created a sales development process from scratch and set Salesforce up for account-based marketing. That includes developing the account and contact stages, their definitions, supporting the process to update each contact in Salesforce and Outreach.io. 
- Ran sales operations – administered every tool in the sales stack; created lists/reports/dashboards on the main KPIs and campaigns in Salesforce; created and maintained triggers, rulesets, sequences, field syncs in Outreach.io.  
- Built out the sales development process and evangelized it across the organization. Trained the closers on it and built the infrastructure to support it. Trained the team on Salesforce, Outreach, and overall sales development best practices, etc.  
- Supported sales leadership in sales process optimization initiatives including architecting data collection and processes across the sales stack to support business goals and OKRs.  
- Worked closely with marketing to align processes and campaigns with sales and sales development. Worked on and refined the marketing/sales development handoff process when it comes to campaigns, content, events, and other lead generation activities. Ran campaigns to support marketing events and webinars to drive attendance and conversion, provided support and ideas for new content creation.  
- Built out playbooks and messaging in Drift. 

Highlights: 
- My 2nd month in scheduled 32 meetings for an upcoming field event.

Q1 – 100% (220 if not for Covid-19)

- Generate interest in All Star’s line of products through outbound calls, emails, messages, trade shows,  manage inbound customer inquiries ;
- Develop and maintain a consistent pipeline of new business to achieve designated goals and revenue requirements;
- Work collaboratively with management and team members to identify and create appropriate sales and business strategies to close new business;
- Deliver presentations, negotiate contracts and campaign requirements;

Continued the development of the Value Added Services product, as well as took an opportunity to work on a new product for agents/resellers/partners. Key milestones were:

- Initiated, designed and implemented a new product for the markets with no sales presence of E100 Group with an option either to have a cobranded fuel card or represent the company on new markets with direct agreements. 
- Grew the number of resellers to 10+ in 2 years.
- Doubled the volume of fuel and services sales through the new product each year. 
- Supervised 2 departments supporting both products (15+ FTE).

Director of Operations and Business Development ¦ Partnership Projects

Led the Operations and Development for the Value Added Services Department in terms of a group of companies.  Key achievements included:

- Tailored the product to the customer needs and brought it to the competitive level on Western and Eastern European market.
- Extended the portfolio from 3 to 30 + services which led to acceptance of E100 fuel card for toll payments in 25 countries of EU and Eastern Europe and consistent monthly sales volume growth.
- Was in charge of initiating, planning, management and closure of new service implementation projects (host-to-host online/offline payment processing platforms integration). 
- Determined staffing requirements and KPIs, hired, trained and managed a team of 12+ directly reporting customer service managers in 12 sales offices of the company. 
- Increased the back office supporting customer, partner and sales operations to 3 FTE.

Director of Operations and Business Development

Manager for Business Development of the Value Added Services Department (Toll, ROLA and FerryPayment, Roadside assistance). 
- Expanded the service portfolio for toll payment services and added new kinds of services to the company's product. 
- Negotiated contracts, developed and maintained relationship with service providers across EU and CIS countries (including legal, commercial, billing, accounting, operational issues).
- Built a back-office in charge of support of daily operations with partners, customers, sales office, internal departments (customer registration and support, billing and payments, documents logistics, etc.)

I'm a recent transplant from Europe and I'm proud of having a unique background and perspective that came to life from years of learning new languages, living and studying abroad, traveling, and taking a lot of risks. 

I moved to the United States back in 2016 after spending 5 years with an international payment processing company building out business development and channel sales function and supporting infrastructure, also acting as a project, product, and account manager, and by the end of my career running 2 remote teams of 20+ multinational remote FTEs and supporting 100m+ revenue-generating business function.  

Upon moving to the US, I decided the best (and fastest) way to adapt to my new environment was to pursue a career in sales. Imagine immigrating to a different country and taking a job that requires a native language fluency? To say it was a crazy move would be an understatement, but I’ve never looked back! 

I began my sales career in business development for a marketing agency, moved on to a closing role in just one year, and then ended up in SaaS Sales Development. After learning the ins-and-outs of day-to-day as an SDR and outperforming the entire team at my next role, I moved on to Aduro where I built out the enterprise sales development function from scratch. Currently, I lead Sales Development and Commercial Sales at Esper.io

Professional life aside, I’m a husband and a father, I love wine, I play the drums, I run half-marathons and enjoy my new life in the PNW!
