No. Your attention span is DEAD (bet)
Let me translate what you’re actually looking at.

HubSpot:
From ~$29 in 2014 to ~$371 today.
That is a 1,178% lifetime return.

Salesforce:
From ~$79 in 2015 to ~$260 today.
That is a 6,400% lifetime return.

Six.
Thousand.
Percent.

You don’t get those returns in “dying categories.” You get those returns in infrastructure layers.

And recite this with me: CRM is not software. CRM is the system of record for revenue.

It’s where:
-deals live
-pipeline lives
-forecasts live
-reps live
-managers live
-customer truth lives

Now let's talk numbers (and bring some sanity to the PEOPLE)
HubSpot just posted +20.87% YoY revenue growth.

THEY BEAT EARNINGS and THEY BEAT REVENUE PROJECTIONS
(Say it with me "HubSpot beat earnings, HubSpot beat earnings, HubSpot beat earnings.")

And the stock is down. Why??!???!?!??!?

Because Wall Street is DUMB drunk on one thing right now: AI cosplay.

If you don’t say “agent” every six seconds, the market assumes you’re a horse carriage company. 

MEANWHILE (in the real world) HubSpot is quietly doing the most important thing in SaaS: BECOMING the operating system for how businesses actually sell.

AI does not replace CRM. AI needs CRM.

The CRM is data gravity. Data gravity is what wins (AI is actually the easy part - you would know that if you ever ran a sales team before..)

You can’t build an AI GTM engine without a canonical system of record.

And guess what that system is.
It’s NOT your agent. It’s NOT your prompt. It’s for HELLo sure not your N8N/Zapier flow.

It’s Salesforce. It’s HubSpot. or Dynamics (I just threw up in my mouth, saying something good about Dynamics).

Always has been.

This market cycle is not “CRM vs AI.”

It is CRM becoming the control plane for AI.

The winners will be the platforms that:
OWN the data
OWN the workflows
OWN the permissions
OWN the revenue truth

AI will plug into them. NOT replace them.

So yeah - HubSpot beating revenue while the market shrugs is hilarious.

This is NOT a warning sign about "the end of CRMs"
That’s the market being blind AF

CRM ain’t going away, mofos. It’s just about to get smarter.

I think about connections a LOT. Like…A LOT A LOT

They determine what you see, who it’s from, when you see it & so many other things that shape how this platform actually feels to use. Honestly, it would be weird if I didn’t think about it.

So when I saw Becca Chambers ✨ post about connecting with zero context, I figured I’d share my own connection strategy & habits here on LI.

My goal is simple: Be connected to people I respect, learn from, enjoy hearing from & would actually chat/hang out with. If I wouldn’t hold a comments-section convo with you, send you a GIF response, or sit in the back of a conference keynote together…should we even be connected?

LinkedIn is the only place I work pretty hard to stay at inbox 0. Messages + connection requests pile up fast & I clear them weekly (the Grow tab & Focused inbox are VERY helpful). Not for productivity glory, but because I often share my live LI backend during the HubSpot Admin HUG housekeeping & no one wants to see all those red bubbles. 😳 I’m doing this for anxiety reduction, OK.

What makes me click accept is usually some combo of:
You have a profile photo. The gray anonymous avatar gives me hesitation.

We have around 30 mutual connections. I bend that number depending on who LI shows me as the mutual.

If we don’t have many mutuals, your headline better be enticing & your profile needs to back it up, because I’m about to do a full LinkedIn stealth background check. The real reason I pay for Premium.

That's inbound connections.

I set aside time, usually Fridays or Saturdays, for outbound connecting.

I use the Catch Up tab (still convinced the names should be swapped) & scroll through:
Connections you may know
People... you may know based on recent activity, in my industry or went to my college (go Gators 🧡💙)

I give myself either a time limit or a connection limit, never both.
Hit 30 mins before connecting w/ 20 people, I 🛑
Connect w/ 20 people before 30 mins, same deal I 🛑

This keeps me out of the rabbit hole & saves requests for the rest of the week. Shoutout to the “you have reached your connection request limit” notification. My nemesis!!

I’m way pickier how I choose who to connect with:
No profile photo. Full 🛑. I want to know you’re human

No banner? Your headline/about better be 🔥 I mainly want proof you actually use LI & will see my request

If we have 50+ mutuals, I’m probably lurking & clicking w/out a note (balls in your court)

If we have 150+ mutuals, it’s an instant click & I’m wondering how we aren’t already friends. Likely adding a personalized note 👋🏻

The literal goal written on my whiteboard is “make new friends”
Not “grow an audience.”

I am trying to make deeper connections with humans that I genuinely like. I want my feed filled with people I want to hear from, learn from & talk to. I’m also counting on my connections to help see who’s worth being connected with. No pressure, but also…don’t let in the creeps

So, am I being extra…or just intentional?
