The longer I'm in marketing, and the more I learn, the more I see brands wasting opportunity for insane ROI.

Things like Reddit, YouTube (organic + ads), TikTok... 

Brand owners/clients say "I don't know if I should do this" or "We don't really know if it's worth it"

My dudes. In the time spent on your last call you could have answered 3 Reddit posts that are squarely in your market, making people aware that you exist without ANY further effort, probably for another 2-3 years (as more content outranks it).

TikTok: I personally follow 2 people whose videos were served to me on TT, that I did not search for. They're both absolute pros in their fields and no Google Analytics will ever show I found them on TT.

YouTube (organic): the next frontier of content that just keeps putting you in front of your buyers (if you do it w/ SEO etc).

You don't have to be a master in these to get started, and there are TONS of people on this platform who'll teach you for free or for $$$ and get you results.

You have to put ALL your core knowledge/beliefs as a brand onto ALL these channels. THAT'S how you lower CAC, because you're getting more traffic with organic traffic (stuff that ranks on these search engines) vs ads.

The days of seeing SEO as Google only are over. Other channels have ads but the core of their experiences are serving organic (non-ad) content. You can and should get on this because you're not paying for placement with $, you're paying with a few minutes of your time/effort.

Still do ads. But supplement that sh-- with organic channels OUTSIDE of Google.

A $50M ecommerce brand hired me last year.

First thing I told them:

"Your keyword strategy is solid. But Google doesn't understand your products."

They looked confused.

"We rank on page 1 for most of our target keywords."

I pulled up their product data.

- GMC feeds: half-empty attributes.
- Structured data: missing on most pages.
- YouTube presence: not much.
- Reviews mentioning features: barely any.

"You're ranking," I said. "But you're invisible to a lot of AI-powered product discovery."

Then I explained the shift.

Ecommerce SEO isn't about keywords anymore.

It's about whether Google understands your product as an entity.

This is the shift most brands missed.

Google built the Shopping Graph which contains billions of product listings, helping users find specific products.

A semantic database where products exist as entities, not pages with keywords.

Every product connects to attributes like price, brand, color, size, rating, and stock.

It indexes billions of products and uses machine learning to match them to user queries.

When someone asks AI for a product recommendation, it queries this Graph.

The Shopping Graph pulls product data from:

→ YouTube videos
→ Manufacturer websites
→ Online shops and product detail pages
→ Google Merchant Center
→ Google Manufacturer Center
→ Product reviews

Both structured data (like GMC feeds and schema) and unstructured content (like video transcripts and review text) contribute to it.

Their products weren't showing up in these places. Not with the right attributes.

So we fixed it.

→ Completed every GMC feed attribute
→ Rewrote product pages to naturally describe features and use cases
→ Created YouTube content for top products
→ Built a review system that encouraged specific feature mentions
→ Implemented full product schema markup

The focus shifted from keywords to entities, attributes and relationships.

Six months later?

Their products started appearing in AI-generated recommendations.

Traffic from AI sources went from almost nothing to a meaningful channel.

Same products. Same prices. Just properly understood by Google.

Unpopular opinion: most ecommerce stores don't always need more content.

They don't need more links either.

They need to fix the mess they already have.

Here's what I mean.

Ecommerce stores naturally are built to multiply URLs. 

Every category filter or product attribute or feature that improves user experience also multiplies your URLs exponentially.

This huge URL expansion may result in diluting the ranking signals for the main or core URLs, if they're not properly canonicalised and aligned through the website's internal link architecture.

The result?

Your SEO spend goes nowhere. Rankings stay flat. Results never show.

Not because your strategy is wrong.

Because your foundation is broken.
