Claude Code, Claude Skills and MCP have entered the imsg group chat with friends. I know it can feel overwhelming to get started - here are a few quick ways to get comfortable if you're just starting out with AI:

1. Start by connecting any existing tools you're already using to Claude (e.g. Google Drive, Google Calendar, GMail, Slack, Canva, Fulfil, etc.).

2. Ask questions, analyze data and build reports based on your connected data sources. 

3. Start asking software providers you use or are considering using if they have an MCP (this is the USB port equivalent that lets LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude connect with other software).

4. Research the concept of Claude Skills and identify a task that you or your team frequently performs where you'd like a standardized output.

Everyone starts their resume the same way.
Generic title. Buzzword-filled summary. Zero specificity.

Think of it as your pitch in one sentence.

Real example:

The job description for Chief of Staff asks for:

15+ years in healthcare
Strategic planning & operations experience
Proven cost savings & business development impact

Here's the OVP I wrote:

"15+ years of leadership in healthcare, implementing Lean Six Sigma-based operational models to align operations with strategy and drive multi-million-dollar cost savings. Built systems to streamline processes and negotiated partnerships generating $10M in new business."

What makes this work:

✅ Mirrors their exact requirements ✅ Proves impact with numbers ($10M, multi-million) ✅ Shows HOW you deliver (Lean Six Sigma, system building) ✅ Makes it impossible to ignore your relevance

This is how you open strong.
Not with a title. Not with fluff.

With proof that you're exactly what they're looking for.

200+ applicants for one role.

How do you stand out?

Not by hoping your resume gets lucky in the pile.

Here's what I see job seekers do:

They apply to everything. Same resume. Same approach. Then wonder why they're getting ghosted.

Here's what the ones who GET interviews do differently:
They're relevant. Intentional. Strategic.

1. They tailor every single resume
Not a full rewrite. Small, strategic tweaks. Mirror the language in the job description. Make it obvious you're the fit they're looking for.

2. They lead with a targeted summary
First 3 lines hook the reader. Align your top strengths with what they need. Not what you've done, but what you can do for them.

3. They use keywords naturally
Not stuffing. Weaving. The exact terms hiring managers search for. Gets you ATS-optimized and past the human scan.

4. They show proof, not fluff
Not 10 generic achievements. 3-5 that directly match what the role requires.

5. Their LinkedIn tells a different story than their resume
Resume = targeted for the role. LinkedIn = who you are, your voice, your unique perspective. Don't copy-paste. Differentiate.

Bonus: They write cover letters that actually connect the dots

Not "I'm interested in this role." But "Here's why my experience solving X makes me perfect for your Y challenge."

The difference between 200 applications with no response and 10 applications with 3 interviews?

🎯Strategy.

When you see a role with 200+ applicants, do you apply anyway, or do you move on?

I reached out to a VP I worked with last year.

He told me he'd secured a good role after we worked together.

But I'm looking again, he said. For something better.

Here's what was different this time:
No panic. No desperation. No questioning his worth.

Because he learned something the first time around:
The importance of presentation and positioning.

Last year, when we first met, he was stuck.

15 years at the same company. Promotions. Big projects. Solid results.
