Claude Code, Claude Skills and MCP have entered the imsg group chat with friends. I know it can feel overwhelming to get started - here are a few quick ways to get comfortable if you're just starting out with AI:

1. Start by connecting any existing tools you're already using to Claude (e.g. Google Drive, Google Calendar, GMail, Slack, Canva, Fulfil, etc.).

2. Ask questions, analyze data and build reports based on your connected data sources. 

3. Start asking software providers you use or are considering using if they have an MCP (this is the USB port equivalent that lets LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude connect with other software).

4. Research the concept of Claude Skills and identify a task that you or your team frequently performs where you'd like a standardized output.

Three years ago, I just wanted to help one person.

No big master plan. No expansion strategy.

Just a desire to create a space where someone felt less alone navigating their career.

This weekend, nearly 200 people showed up to our Own Your Path event at Deloitte.
And it hit me.

What started as helping one person has grown into a movement supporting thousands across North America. This event was just one example.

The best part of the evening wasn’t the stage.

It wasn’t even the energy (which was incredible).

It was seeing familiar faces walk in with the same excitement they had when they attended our very first events years ago.

That kind of consistency spoke to something deeper.
It spoke to trust.
It spoke to safety.
It spoke to community that feels like family.

And what made it even more powerful?

Many of those same people who once walked in unsure…

Walked in this time:
• Employed in roles they once dreamed about
• Running companies they once doubted starting
• Building personal brands that now get them recognized in rooms
• Showing up more confident in their skills, their voice, and their direction

That’s the part that hit me.

Because the frameworks, the conversations, the systems we built and the workshops, they weren’t just theory.

So many attendees came up to say thank you, not just for events, but for friendships formed, business partners met, opportunities and mentors found, confidence built.

And here’s what brings me the most joy:
It no longer feels like I’m driving this. The community is.

People are stepping up.
People are leading without being asked to do so.

That’s when you know something has grown beyond you.

We’ve now supported tens of thousands of international students, immigrants, and job seekers across Canada, and we’re just getting started.

I never thought of speaking at the Stan’s head office in Canada
 
Yet yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak there to 70+ women for International Women’s Day…

And it all started with something simple: putting myself out there. 

Posting.
Sharing my journey.
Talking about the work we’re building with Re-Defined.

That’s how I connected with Emily Talas, which eventually led to this opportunity, and the chance to meet and have a chat with an inspirng fellow immigrant- Vitalii Dodonov, Stan’s Co-founder.

And this was proof that:
You might be incredibly talented.
But if the right people don’t know you exist, you’ll miss out on rooms you were meant to be in.

Visibility creates opportunity and if not that, it at least creates the possibility.

👉So if you’ve been hesitant to put yourself out there because you’re worried about what people might think, ask yourself this:
Are you willing to limit your potential just because of someone else’s opinion?

If you’ve never posted before, start simple.
✅Write an introduction post:
Who you are, what you’re building, where you want to go, and the people you’d love to connect with.

You never know which opportunity might come from it.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but here’s your reminder:
There is no one-size-fits-all philosophy for success.

The other day at an event, a student came up to me and said:
“I’ve been trying to wake up at 4 AM every single day… but it’s just not working.”

And I asked him —
Why are you trying to be a 4 AM person?
Because someone on the internet said that’s what successful people do?

Here’s the truth:
Just because something works for someone else,
doesn’t mean it will work for you too.

Maybe you’re not a morning person.
Maybe you’re deeply creative at 10 PM.

Maybe your best thinking happens when the world is quiet at night.

Maybe your flow state isn’t at sunrise — it’s at midnight.

And that’s okay.

Instead of forcing yourself into someone else’s routine, try the different routines to see what works for you.

Give it a real trial:
→ Wake up at 4 AM for a week.
→ Assess your energy, your productivity, your mood, your creativity.

Are you actually performing better? Or are you just tired and annoyed?

Some people thrive doing deep work at 5 AM.

Some people thrive doing it at 11 PM.

Some people use mornings to work out.
Some use evenings to build.

The goal isn’t to become “the other” person.

The goal is to become the person who performs best for your purpose.

Identify what works for you and stick to it😇

I had a career coaching call yesterday with someone who has applied to 30–50 roles.

They got screenings.
They got interviews.
But no offer.

Here are the 6 things I told them to focus on:

1️⃣ Optimize Your LinkedIn (This Is Your Digital First Impression)

80% of recruiters check LinkedIn before moving forward.

Your profile should immediately answer:
“Why should we speak to you?”

Non-negotiables:
• A banner that communicates positioning (not a random photo)
• Headline = Role + Years + Impact + Direction
• About section: Past → Present → Where You’re Headed
• Experience section focused on measurable impact, not job descriptions
• 2–3 strong recommendations
• A pinned intro post summarizing your expertise

If your LinkedIn is unclear, you are invisible.

2️⃣ Master Your Elevator Pitch (Most Interviews Are Lost Here)

You don’t get hired because you have experience.
You get hired because you communicate value clearly.

Create a 60–90 second introduction that includes:
• You background
• Where you are right now (what all are you doing at the moment)
• 1–2 strong impact metrics
• What you’re moving towards and what are you doing to get there

Then tailor it slightly to each company’s language.
Confidence isn’t natural.
It’s rehearsed.
Practice it until it sounds like you — not like a script.

3️⃣ Follow Up Strategically (Silence Is Not Rejection — Yet)

If you had:
• 2 interviews
• 5 recruiter screenings

And didn’t move forward?
Follow up.

Send a concise message:
• Reintroduce yourself confidently
• Ask what may have been missing
• Request feedback
• Ask if there’s someone else you should connect with

Most candidates disappear after rejection.
Professionals stay in the room.

4️⃣Stop Mass Applying. Build a Targeted Strategy.

Spraying 100 applications is not a strategy.

Instead:
• Choose 3 companies you genuinely want
• Identify 2–3 roles within each
• Reach out to:
– Recently hired employees
– Managers/Senior Managers
– At least 1 Director/Partner

Ask for insight, not jobs.
The goal isn’t to “get lucky.”
The goal is to become familiar.

Familiarity builds comfort.
Comfort builds opportunity.

5️⃣ Do a Skills Gap + Evidence Audit

For every skill on your resume, ask:
“What proof do I have?”

List:
• Technical skills
• Soft skills
• Leadership traits
Then compare them against your target roles.

For each skill, attach:
• A metric
• A project
• A story
• A result

If you’re pivoting industries (e.g., tech → sustainability), show proof of interest:
• Volunteer
• Join a nonprofit
• Contribute to initiatives
• Write about it

Passion without proof doesn’t convert.

The job market rewards:
Clarity.
Positioning.
Evidence.
Strategic visibility.
Not volume.

Life always gives you signs.

When someone or something is not meant for you…
there are always little hints.

Tiny moments.

Subtle discomfort.

A feeling in your gut that something isn’t right.

But we ignore it.

Because we want it to work.

We’ve invested time.
Energy.
Emotion.
Hope.

So we hold on —
even when it’s quietly hurting us.

And then when it falls apart, we call it rejection.

We call it failure.

We call it unfair.

But what if it was protection? What if it was redirection?

Here’s the truth:
You were never supposed to settle.
Not for the job that drains you.
Not for the partnership that shrinks you.
Not for the opportunity that feels misaligned.

So if someone walks away,
or something doesn’t go as planned, don’t immediately complain.

Pause.

Maybe it’s the universe saying:
“This isn’t it. There’s something better aligned for you.”

Growth requires letting go.
Ownership requires listening.

Get the hint.
And take it.

“I do it anyways”

Most people think success looks like perfect days.

Perfect mornings.
Perfect routines.
Perfect discipline.

That’s not reality.

Most days are ugly.
Most days you don’t feel like waking up.
Most days you don’t feel like doing the thing you know you should be doing.

Today, was that day for me 

Heavy eyes.
Dark circles.
Zero motivation.

But I did what needed to be done anyways- in this case getting a 5km run in

And honestly, that’s the reason I am winning today.

Not because I crushed a workout.
Not because I hit some massive milestone.
But because I got up and did it anyway.

That moment, when you don’t feel like doing it, especially when you don’t feel like doing it, that is where identity is built.

Every time you choose action over comfort, you’re teaching your brain:
“We’re not someone who takes the easy route.”

And your brain adapts to the standard you set.

Discomfort stops feeling like a threat.

It starts feeling like default.

Most people are waiting to feel motivated.

The people who move forward are the ones who move anyway.

Not every day will be aesthetic.
Not every morning will be powerful.

But every small decision to not quit compounds.

That’s the real work.
That’s the real edge.

So, make sure you remember your 4 previous words “I do it anyway”

Most job seekers think they’re losing opportunities because they’re missing:
• another certification
• another technical skill
• another line on their resume

But after working with thousands of students and newcomers, here’s what I’ve learned:

What employers actually look for is far more simple,
and completely non-negotiable.

If you’re job seeking, these matter more than you think:

1️⃣ Be someone who can figure it out 

You will be given ambiguous tasks. No clear instructions. No step-by-step manual.

The person who asks smart questions, does the research, and delivers anyway becomes indispensable.

2️⃣ Learn to communicate & sell ideas.

You are always selling — your ideas, your projects, your competence, your thinking.
Technical skill gets you in the room. Influence moves you forward.

3️⃣Own your mistakes and systemize growth.

Mistakes are normal. Repeating them is optional.
Accountability + improvement builds trust faster than perfection.

4️⃣ Be comfortable being wrong.

The fastest learners win long-term.
If your ego is louder than your curiosity, your growth will stall.

5️⃣ Get in rooms where decisions happen.

Don’t just do the task l, understand the context.
How are decisions made? What trade-offs matter? What tensions exist?
That’s where real career acceleration begins.

6️⃣ Build your personal board of advisors.

Stop waiting for one perfect mentor.
Build a diverse circle you can go to for perspective, feedback, and challenge.

7️⃣ Prioritize skill density over short-term salary jumps.

Early in your career, the right environment compounds faster than small pay bumps.
Not all compensation is monetary.

And reliability is simple.

But it’s non-negotiable.

A student asked a Zen master how long it takes to achieve mastery.

The master said: 10 years.

The student replied:
"What if I work twice as hard?"

The master smiled and said:
20 years.

At first it sounds counterintuitive.

But here’s the lesson most people miss:

When we become obsessed with rushing results, we actually slow down the process.

We overthink.
We force outcomes.
We burn ourselves out trying to accelerate something that requires patience.

Author Aldous Huxley once wrote:
“The harder we try with the conscious will to do something, the less we shall succeed.”

Mastery doesn’t come from frantic effort.

It comes from balanced, consistent effort over time.

The same applies to careers.

You don’t build credibility overnight.
You don’t find clarity overnight.
You don’t create impact overnight.

But if you keep showing up and improving a little every day, the results compound in ways you didn’t expect.

Sometimes the fastest way forward is simply to stop rushing the process.

One clear message. One CTA. No clutter.

2️⃣ Profile Photo
Sharp. Close-up. High resolution. Clean background.

3️⃣ Headline
Who you help + how you help + proof.

4️⃣ Custom Button
Drive traffic somewhere intentional. Don’t waste it.

5️⃣ Featured Section
Add one high-value resource solving a specific pain.

6️⃣ About Section
Make it about them, not you.
Short paragraphs. Bullets. Scannable.

7️⃣ Experience Section
Outcomes > responsibilities.
Numbers. Impact. Results.

8️⃣ Recommendations
Keep them current. Give some to receive some.

Content gets you visibility.

Your profile converts that visibility into opportunity.

Raise your hand if you have even done the following👇

• Not applying for the job you’re qualified for
• Overthinking an email for 3 days and never sending it
• Pulling back when things start going well
• Procrastinating on a project that could change your career
• Saying “I’m not ready yet” when an opportunity shows up and missing out on it

And then calling yourself lazy. Or inconsistent. Or “not disciplined enough.”

Well, this is know as Self-sabotage and well, most of us do it

It’s usually a protective strategy that once kept you safe… and now needs an update.

Because growth often feels unsafe:
Visibility feels risky.
Success brings pressure.
New rooms trigger old insecurities.
Being seen means being judged.

So your nervous system steps in to “protect” you, through avoidance, procrastination, overworking, or playing small.

Here’s how you can start to re-frame it:

1. Stop talking to yourself like you’re a problem to fix.

If your inner voice is harsh, rushed, or shaming, your nervous system stays in survival mode.
Safety comes before change. Always.

2. Get curious about what the behavior is protecting you from.

Avoidance, procrastination, pulling away, overworking… these often show up when your body senses threat, not when you lack discipline.
Ask: What feels unsafe right now?

3. Make promises you can actually keep.

Self-trust is built through follow-through, not motivation.
Start small. Keep it boring. Let your body learn that you mean what you say.

4. Separate discomfort from danger.

Growth feels activating. That doesn’t mean you’re in danger or about to fail.
Learning to tolerate discomfort without panicking is a huge part of changing patterns.

5. Repair instead of punish when you “mess up.”

Shame keeps cycles going. Repair builds resilience.
Talk to yourself the way you would to a close friend who’s struggling.

6. Let your needs be real, not negotiable.

Burnout, resentment, and self-abandonment fuel sabotage.
Boundaries and rest aren’t rewards. They’re requirements.

7. Remember that healing is relational.

You don’t build self-trust by doing everything alone.
Safe people, support, and co-regulation matter more than perfect routines.

Self-sabotage usually softens when your system finally believes:
“I don’t have to hurt myself to stay safe anymore.”

That shift changes everything. 

Because the opportunity was never the problem.

The nervous system just didn’t feel safe enough to hold it.

Even if it’s scary, Do it

You rather be scared and know what you want to do; than being comfortable and not knowing what you want to do

Because that is honestly frustrating

I myself feel that I am very privileged to be in a position where I have multiple options in front of me in terms of everything I can do and choose between 

But sometimes honestly wish that there was no option, because then you focus on just figuring it out 

And that honestly is the easiest part because if you strongly know this is what you want to do and you know you feel it in your core

Then you figuring out a way to make is happen in my opinion is guaranteed 

The time it takes may be different but if it will happen because when passion and consistent effort come together, nothing is impossible

So, all this to say that if you are someone who knows exactly what you are made to be doing and what you were born in this world to do and if you are not doing it today 

Asses what is stopping you from that, is something that is controllable or not

Because if it’s within your control, focus your effort on resolving those gaps to be able to do what you are meant to do

And if it’s not within your control, then know that of you do not take action today or do not make the decision, while it won’t make a difference today 

It will make a difference done the line and you may find yourself later regretting why you never took the step 

So, if I can encourage you to reflect on what you have going on right now and really ask yourself that question of what is stopping you from doing what you want to do? 

And start defining what the solution to it is and start working on it so that at least you are doing something to get there, no matter how far it may seem

Every decision or choice or action you take changes what kind of life you go on to live

Working longer, gets less done.

It sounds counterintuitive, but the Parkinson’s Law explains it well:

It says:
Work expands to fill the time allotted for its completion.

Give yourself 8 hours to complete something, it will take 8 hours.

Give yourself 1 hour, you’ll somehow finish it in one.

Which is why you may sometimes meet people who seem to get so much more done even with limited hours and capacity.

It is because of the Productivity Paradox.

Even with myself I have noticed that I am most productive not when I work endlessly or give an entire day to get something done.

But its when I give myself clear, strict time windows. (which is why I also like doing a lot of things because it makes time feel limited, driving me to get more done)

Because when time feels unlimited, we slow down.
We overthink.
We procrastinate.
We spend time on low-value tasks.

But when the window is tight, something shifts.

Think about the night before an exam.

Somehow, within 1–2 hours, you cover material that would normally take an entire day.

Why?

Because the constraint forces focus.
Instead of grazing on work all day, you sprint.
Then you rest.
Then you sprint again.
Just like a lion hunts.

Not constantly running around all day.
But focusing intensely in short bursts.

So the lesson is simple:
-Stop measuring productivity by how long you work.
-Start measuring it by how focused your effort is and what you get done.

Unpopular opinion:
If you work in a corporate job, don’t let the company become your entire identity.

I’ve seen this happen across early, mid, and even senior professionals.

People spend years building their reputation around the company they work for.

Then one day they leave.
A layoff happens.
A restructuring happens.
Or they simply move on.

And suddenly they feel lost,they don’t know who they are, because their entire identity was tied to the company.

Your company is a chapter of your story.
It shouldn’t be the whole story.

That’s exactly why I’m intentional about how I show up publicly.

I don’t want my identity to be defined only by the corporate role I hold. (even though most times it will be discrete by my role and title)

But I like to believe that each one of us has control over our lives and our narrtives and it’s up to us to dictate how we want to be seen 

And so if you want to be know for your thoughts, values, and your perspectives make sure you do that both within and outside the company

And ironically, you will realize that building that identity doesn’t hurt your corporate career.
It often helps it.

Because once people understand how you think, you stop being seen as just a job title. You stop getting limited only to tasks that your title allows for but seen as someone who ca contribute beyond. 

You become known for your voice and expertise.

So, if you're a corporate professional, looking to start, here are 3 simple ways to do so:
1. Make your LinkedIn profile about YOU,not just your company.
Show your thinking, insights, and expertise and the work you have done and continue to do.

2. Share what you’re learning and share your WHYs.
Your observations and experiences are valuable thought leadership. And most often, people align more with WHY you do it than WHAT you do or HOW well you do it.

3. Build credibility around your perspective.
Companies change. Job titles change.
But your ideas and reputation stay with you.

Your career shouldn’t only exist inside a company.

It should exist with or without it.

In life, you will face a lot of doubts, rejections and ups and downs. That’s a fact, it’s not something we can escape or control

But what you can is how you react to it and how you prepare for the upcoming ones 

And so when we talk about building something, it really comes down to how bad you want it and how long are you willing to push for it (despite the fails or the losses)

Failure is not when you fail at the launch of an idea or fail at not being able to bag an opportunity 

You fail when you stop trying (QUIT)

And so, I want to remind you and encourage you to not see failure as failure 

But rather as an opportunity to reflect, re-assess what matters most to you, and get clear on if it’s something you really want to do 

And if yes, then keep at it 

Sometimes along the journey certain things you choose to do or engage in, may not make logical sense but that’s okay 

You willl figure it out with time and with experience 

You don’t need to have all the answers now

When I started Re-Defined so many people said it would not work, or we would shut down in a few months 

But here we are even 3 yrs later still at it, growing every year, 

I have seen companies and initiatives start during this time and shut down because they could not keep at it and it’s because the purpose was not strong enough 

With us, it is and so there are pivots, I don’t have all the answers but I believe we are heading somewhere and making an impact while we are at it 

And I think that’s good enough 😅
