Claude Code, Claude Skills and MCP have entered the imsg group chat with friends. I know it can feel overwhelming to get started - here are a few quick ways to get comfortable if you're just starting out with AI:

1. Start by connecting any existing tools you're already using to Claude (e.g. Google Drive, Google Calendar, GMail, Slack, Canva, Fulfil, etc.).

2. Ask questions, analyze data and build reports based on your connected data sources. 

3. Start asking software providers you use or are considering using if they have an MCP (this is the USB port equivalent that lets LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude connect with other software).

4. Research the concept of Claude Skills and identify a task that you or your team frequently performs where you'd like a standardized output.

I'm the definition of a non-technical person, and it's been mindblowing what I can do now with AI - hopefully this is a helpful starting point for those just getting started!

Youthfully

As a Youth Coach at Youthfully, I help students chart their future paths, create standout post-secondary applications, and develop the skills necessary to achieve both academic and personal success. The impacts I have made through my work so far are described below:

- Delivered 30+ hours of 1-on-1 private youth coaching to students, which included career and academic pathfinding, post-secondary application preparation, and skills development for academic and personal success.

- Earned 5-star reviews from all of my clients, including both students and parents.

- Learned about each student's extracurriculars and initiatives, job experiences, passions and interests, strengths and weaknesses, and academic record to determine which post-secondary programs and schools were best suited to them.

- Supported and guided students in developing riveting post-secondary applications to Canada's top engineering schools, including U of T and Waterloo, by conducting 30+ practice video interview questions each, editing and revising multiple compendious written pieces ranging from 150 to 250 words, and providing advice on what these universities look for in an ideal candidate.

- Nurtured the development of skills such as verbal and written communication, time management, and organization by facilitating numerous oral and written practice questions with detailed feedback, ensuring that students are balancing their time between post-secondary applications and other commitments, and aiding in the structuring of their ideas, goals, and to-do lists.

I am truly grateful for this opportunity to continuously apply and develop my coaching skills, and it brings me joy knowing that I am helping these students to build their ideal futures at such a pivotal point in their lives.

Youth Coach

Aercoustics Engineering Limited

During my experience as a project engineering intern at Aercoustics, I was able to hone my problem solving, technical, and interpersonal skills through engineering consulting work centered around acoustics, noise, and vibration. The impacts I made at Aercoustics through my work duties are described below:

- Coordinated, developed, revised, and successfully delivered 20+ completed projects to clients across the architectural, transit, residential construction, and renewable energy industries.

- Analyzed noise and vibration data spanning 150 hours at a time, designed indoor and outdoor acoustic and noise models for 5+ different project sites, examined and marked architectural drawings for up to 6-storey buildings, and generated reports for delivery to clients on 20+ projects.

- Conducted internal team meetings and external client meetings for projects involving 5 to 30 people to coordinate tasks, clarify details, and ensure that deliverables were completed on schedule.

- Deployed and retrieved long-term noise and vibration monitors for up to 6+ months of data acquisition in residential buildings, on wind farms, and on construction sites.

- Coached and mentored the incoming interns for 3 months at the end of my internship, providing over 30 hours of job training, productivity tips, and general advice for maintaining health and well-being while working.

- Organized and carried out the company's "Rogue Week", where Aercoustics team members created and presented 15+ innovative processes and tools related both to their own interests and fields of expertise, with at least 4-5 of these being further refined for use in actual project work.

Working with such an accomplished and supportive team of engineers was an invaluable experience, and my ability to apply my knowledge and skills in solving unfamiliar, real-world problems is one that I look forward to developing as my career progresses.

Project Engineering Intern

Bricks 4 Kidz

As the Bricks 4 Kidz Technology Camp Director in the summer of 2019, I taught classes of up to 16 students ages 8+ about the fundamentals of engineering, physics, computer programming, and robotics using LEGO products in an engaging summer camp setting. 

I delivered 150+ hours of the Bricks 4 Kidz curriculum material, which spanned across 6 different programs: Jr. Robotics, Video Game Design - Outer Space, Remote Control, Model Designers, Comic Book Creators, and Coding with LEGO. These programs combined conceptual understanding, LEGO building, and the use of computers, motors, and other technological devices to create a fun and intellectually enriching experience for the students.

Camp operations involved 8-hour days, with 5 hours of curriculum, and 3 hours of coordinating and supervising outdoor recess, food breaks, free play time, and student pickup and drop-off. I was also responsible for administrative duties as the Extended Care Payment Bookkeeper and Facility Key Holder, ensuring timely payments and facility maintenance.

In the summer of 2020, due to COVID-19, we transitioned from in-person to online camps. Given the positive reviews from parents and students regarding my performance the previous summer, I was selected by my boss to teach 2 new online classes: the ReadyAI Artificial Intelligence Virtual Class, and the Master Builder Virtual Class. 

In the AI Virtual Class, I taught students about the foundational concepts and applications of AI using the ReadyAI curriculum and Calypso Robotics, an interactive online coding platform. The Master Builder Virtual Class presented students with a themed building challenge, in which they used their own LEGO pieces to build a model based on the theme of the day. 

Overall, this work experience helped to bridge the gap between my previous teaching experience and my studies in engineering, all while inspiring the younger generation through STEM.

Technology Camp Director and Virtual Class Instructor

Tutor Doctor

During my time at Tutor Doctor, I delivered 40+ hours of 1-on-1 private tutoring sessions to students in a variety of subject areas, including mathematics and science, ranging from grades 9 through 12.

By adapting my teaching and problem solving skills to match each student's unique learning style, I was able to help my students understand challenging concepts, reinforce their knowledge through practice, and ultimately increase their grades by 10% or more in the courses we were working on.

My client base included a select group of 3 students, allowing for a focus on quality engagement and impactful learning experiences, while ensuring that they each received the dedicated attention necessary to achieve their academic goals.

It was a truly gratifying experience being able to pass on my knowledge of these subjects to my students in a way that was easy for them to understand, and led to their success. I look forward to further refining the skills that I have developed not only in teaching, but in client interfacing and interpersonal relations as well, as I move forward through my professional development journey.

Private Tutor

Making Waves Swim School (CANADA)

As a swim instructor at Making Waves, I delivered 500+ hours of private and semi-private swimming lessons to over 200 students including infants, children, and adults, with each class size ranging from 1-3 students. 

I achieved an average pass rate of 80% across all of my students in the 2+ years that I worked at Making Waves, and the impact that I made through my teaching led to me being named Employee of the Month for March of 2017, just 2 months after starting in this role.

I repeatedly had at least 4-5 parents specifically requesting that I be their child's instructor session after session, as my patient, personal teaching approach allowed me to adapt to each student's unique skill levels and learning styles, ensuring their success by addressing problem areas and reinforcing strong points.

By teaching the essential strokes and emphasizing the importance of water safety, I helped hundreds of students progress from level to level, overcome their fears of the water, and gain independence in aquatic environments. 

Swimming is a vital life skill, and it was a pleasure and privilege to be able to pass on that skill to so many students during my time as a swim instructor at Making Waves.

U of T Mechanical Engineering Student | Minor in Bioengineering and Engineering Business

I’ve always considered myself a creative person. From the time I was little, whether it was building with LEGO, moulding with Play-Doh, doing arts and crafts, or drawing the world around me, creativity has been at the core of my favourite activities.

As I got older, that creative fire continued to burn, and realizing that I wouldn’t be a kid forever, I reluctantly started thinking about what I might like to do for my career. A huge question for anyone, but an important one nonetheless. 

Eventually, it was time to choose something to study in university. I loved to build, I was doing well in math and science - all the signs were pointing towards engineering. So, after a rigorous application process and 5 arduous years of work and study, I obtained my degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto, achieving High Honours.

I also earned a double minor in Bioengineering and Engineering Business. This gave me the opportunity to kindle my fascination with the inner workings of the human body, which I developed as part of my 10+ year weightlifting journey, while also gaining the soft skills to be able to market myself and make a living regardless of my specific career path.

Now yes, engineering involves tons of math and science, equations and calculations, and seemingly never ending report writing. But distilling it all down, it becomes clear that engineering is about problem solving, and more broadly, about learning to think differently. 

Rather than prioritizing memorization, engineers focus on understanding, using our existing knowledge and experience, combined with creativity, to solve new problems that we’ve never faced before.

Through my work, education, and volunteer experiences so far, I’ve been able to develop an ever-growing problem-solving toolbelt, and I know that, no matter what challenge I’m faced with along my journey, I’ll either have the right tool for the job, or, I’ll create one.
