I used to be a high-performer stuck in a low-performance body.

Is that possible? 

It is.

To lose 10 kg of fat you need roughly 77,000 kcal of deficit.
That’s about 2,500 kcal less. Every day. For a month.

For a knowledge worker who burns 2,000–2,600 kcal per day, that would mean:

➔ Or training like an athlete on top of a full-time job
➔ Plus wrecked sleep, focus, mood, and hormones

Yes, the scale might drop fast.
But it probably will be mostly water and muscle.

0.5–1 kg per week, with a 500–750 kcal daily deficit, is the safe range.

2016, I left a high-stress corporate role.

Do you notice that people never forget to apply sunscreen but they neglect exercise, nutrition, relationships, and sleep?!

How I Healed From Chronic Pain & Trauma 👉🏼 In the fall of 2020, my body shut down from a car accident, chronic stress, trauma from leaving a toxic relationship, burnout from starting a couple of online businesses at the same time, and COVID. 

On the outside, the more stressed I was, the harder I worked, but mentally, I was hanging by a thread.

I decided to hold myself accountable …and *DECIDED* I would heal myself.

It was the pandemic, the world was shut down, and treatment was hard to obtain.

I’ve been biohacking for over a decade, so I knew a thing or two about healing my body.

✅ Here’s what I did:

→ Talked to a therapist regularly.

→ Walked the walk (not just talk the talk).

→ Ran toward the feelings I didn’t want to feel.

→ Didn’t drag a partner to project my traumas onto.

→ Journaled and meditation became a regular practice.

→ Removed all distractions. Did it myself so I didn’t become codependent.

→ Maintained an active social life for my sanity but was strict with alcohol and vices.

→ When people triggered me, I got curious and ran towards it rather than get mad or hold grudges.

→ Exercised and ate nutritious foods *every day*. My routine grounds me, so I never sacrifice it.

→ Channelled all my focus into my businesses and health.

🧠 Because of that, I learned how to:

→ Detach from outcomes.
→ Be okay with being alone.
→ Switch emotional states on the fly.
→ Empowered my resilience even more.
→ Everything I want is literally falling into my lap.

I rarely talk about my day job on LinkedIn because I keep my personal brand centred around health.

Wellness, biohacking, and longevity are my passions.

I’ve NEVER strayed from my passions, no matter how many 6-figure contracts I turned down when the company didn’t align with my values.

I’ve been running a digital agency since I was 22, launching e-commerce brands.  I work with the best of the best. I code + design + write + market + build + sell— and I over-deliver because I CAN DO ALL THESE THINGS MYSELF, so I know how to hire. 

❤️ That's why no matter how hard life gets, I go to bed EVERY night excited to wake up to slay the next day…

Athletes rely on their devices (Oura, Whoop, Garmin) to tell them their body is “ready for their next hard workout” while ignoring bodily signals.

❌ missed / late periods*
❌ not pooping consistently
❌ chronic soreness & fatigue
❌ unexpected weight gain / loss

You’re pushing your body too hard.

These symptoms are NOT normal and shouldn’t be ignored.

Your body is stuck in fight-or-flight. CHRONIC STRESS is the root cause of inflammation, illness, and disease, whether it’s from sports, work, a toxic relationship at home or arguing with strangers on the internet.

Trust me. 🤞🏼 I spent 12 years pushing my body + mind to the limits. My acupuncturist chides me often: “Katy, your mind is too strong, but you must listen to your body.”

I don’t feel pain like normal people, never have low energy, and can always go go GO. That’s how my brain is wired.

Having a strong mind is a double-edged sword: we can’t always trust our brains (cognitive + subconscious biases), but our BODIES NEVER LIE.

🚨 “Interoception” is the ability to sense your body's internal state.

Your built-in compass for sensing hunger, fatigue, or unease—the direct line from body to brain that guides when to recharge or recalibrate. 

In our always-on world, we've muted it... until a wake-up call forces the reset.

Too bad many of us ignore these signals until something drastic happens.

We KNOW we should do something (slow down), but we don’t.

🆘 Does your interoception suck? No worries.

In a world where we're conditioned to GO GO GO, it takes more discipline to SLOW DOWN than speed up.

Your brain needs time + repetition to adjust and implement new ideas.

When you experience symptoms, do this:

✅ 1. Take a step back. Audit your habits.

✅ 2. Ask: what habits may contribute to symptoms?

✅ 3. Identify potential triggers: consider diet, stress, sleep, exercise, relationships, trouble at work, and environment.

✅ 4. Experiment with changes: replace a trigger with a new habit.

✅ 5. Execute and consistently rewire your brain to form a new habit: Stick to your changes and be patient, as changes occur slowly over time. Take baby steps.

✅ 6. Track your progress in a journal.

✅ 7. Seek professional help if you’re not getting better.

I’m an endurance cyclist, hunting for the steepest roads to climb, riding hundreds of miles per day is normal.

Lift heavy.

Live by the water and ground barefoot in it daily.
The works.

Never counted a calorie in my life.

In a relationship with incredible communication and connection. Great sex. Zero resentment (we would’ve not attracted each other if we both didn't do the DEEP INNER WORK— that everyone avoids).

Grew up poor but in a stable environment. Loved. Supported. Something I’m grateful for daily.

LEARN TO DROP INTO *90min FLOW BLOCKS*

Our bodies have a quantifiable natural work/rest cycle called the ‘ultradian cycle’, which hypothesizes that our alertness (focus) lasts approximately 90 minutes before our body begins to crave a break—that should be at least 20 minutes to recharge. 

Ultradian rhythms are oscillating biological patterns hardwired into our DNA, affecting all aspects of our physical, mental, and emotional health. 

I set up my desk, a timer for 90 minutes, and I try not to eliminate all distractions—including bathroom breaks, to avoid disrupting a flow state.

💡 Tips to drop into a deep 90min flow block:

➡️ Create a ritual to drop into DEEP WORK → by “anchoring habits.” Eg. My pre-game routine for a block of deep work: make coffee, sit down, tidy desk, breathwork for a state change → and begin work.

➡️ Flow states are neurochemically taxing for your brain. Do max 3-4x per day (up to 4 if you’re a pro) but you MUST deploy ACTIVE RECOVERY. Check out my post on ACTIVE RECOVERY (most of us are doing it wrong). Link in comments.

➡️ Eliminate ALL distractions during the flow block. This includes bathroom breaks, getting up to get water. Phone on an airplane. Set yourself up for success before you start.

💣 You don’t wanna hear it, so I’m gonna say it: why you need to exercise vigorously 

Participants in a 2-year intense exercise intervention reversed the effects of ageing on the heart, making it look 20 years younger!

Studies show vigorous aerobic exercise for 5-6 hours a week can:

→ reverse heart ageing
→ lower blood pressure
→ have anti-cancer effects
→ 20% increase in V2 Max after 2 years

Vo2 max is one of the strongest predictors for longevity.

Guys, you know I’m that annoying girl who loves MONYAYS and won’t shut up about EXERCISE. 💪🏼 It solves every problem (from my anecdotal evidence 🤓).

→ anxiety
→ fat gain
→ loneliness
→ depression
→ hopelessness

I’m guilty about being obsessed with exercise. 

I began this lifestyle when I turned 20 and have NEVER fallen off the bandwagon or lost motivation to exercise since. 🤞🏼

I'm sure y'all were happy when we heard that Zone 2 cardio was the best to keep you younger.

But I’ve come across many studies showing vigorous exercise is required to increase Vo2 max.

I’m not surprised. 

Why?

I've been in endurance sports since I turned 20 in 2007. Most of my friends are 20-30+years older than me. 

Yet some look + act younger than people MY age! 

I think the reason is vigorous exercise— especially endurance sports such as cycling and climbing mountains OUTDOORS.

The rolling hills that we ride are Mother Nature’s way of HIIT. Ups, down, up down.

On top of that, we killed two birds with one stone because we exercise outdoors.

As we all know, nature therapy is the real deal.

You can't deny it.

Studies show intense exercise at 80% max heart rate for 30-40 minutes or HIIT can significantly increase BDNF.

Here’s what intense exercise can do:

→ Intense exercise at 75-80% max heart rate for 20-30 minutes, along with the Norwegian 4x4 protocol once a week, can reverse heart age by 20 years.

→ Intense exercise at 80% max heart rate for 30-40min or HIIT can significantly increase BDNF (aka fertilizer for your brain).

→ Has anti-cancer effects by activating the immune system and killing circulating tumor cells through the mechanical force of blood flow.

→ Benefits of physical activity may be even stronger for cancer patients, with a 48% reduced risk of dying from any cause for breast cancer and a 42% reduced risk for colar rectal cancer.

→ While aerobic exercise at 50-70% max heart rate for 150 minutes a week lowers cancer risk

→ Lactate, produced during exercise, acts as a signalling molecule that communicates with the brain and increases BDNF (brain-derived neurotropic factor), aka fertilizer for your brain. Improves learning, memory, and neurotransmitter levels.
