Bruce Martin went to Stellenbosch University to pursue a degree in Microbiology and Biotechnology. Alongside 100's of courses and a true spirit of learning, he has also pursued a B.Comm in Law from the University of South Africa and a Diploma in Business Analysis from the Faculty Training Institute.

After interning as a Business Analyst, Bruce felt that entrepreneurial urge to start his own business. He founded a company in the automative industry, Speedline Mags, and grew this company to a sizeable staff complement.

With a penchant for digital marketing Bruce made the decision to park the automotive business and accepted a position as a marketing consultant at SharpSpring, a SAAS company with a focus on marketing automation. Bruce managed close to 100 agency accounts and assisted with implementation support. 

After SharpSpring, Bruce accepted a position as Senior Marketing Operations Specialist for Symantec Corporation in their Website Security division. Bruce was responsible for marketing automation campaign execution, infrastructure, data mining and reporting.

Bruce then worked as an agency founder at Growth Strategy and assisted small and medium business with lead generation and the creation of their own systematised marketing and sales funnels to establish predictable revenue systems. 
After which Kurtosys Systems and APO Group called on Bruce as Demand Generation Manager and Head of Digital Marketing, respectively to head up lead generation efforts across all the necessary channels.

Bruce also took up positions at 2 fledgling startups, Realsmart and Severus to drive leads for both fintech companies during their launch phases. 

Currently, Bruce still services Cybersecurity clients sales requirements through Growth Strategy, now fully focused on only Cybersecurity

Bruce aspires to continue in the digital marketing space adopting and implementing new technologies that would help businesses drive profitability.

I took a month long break from posting. 

But I've never felt more successful than I do right now. 

A recent conversation with a Trader Joe's employee sums it up pretty nicely: 

When he asked if we were thinking about another baby (seeing my 2 boys sitting in the cart) I told him we'd just had our 3rd a couple weeks ago. And he said, 

"Wow! You're rich!" 

To which I responded, "Yeah! In some sense! Definitely not financially haha"

All that to say, I didn't give up on LinkedIn, was just spending some well-needed time with my 3(!) boys. 

And while business also slowed down in that time, I've never felt richer or more fulfilled.

Anyone else watch Alex Honnold climb the Taipei 101 in their PJs whilst eating snacks and think, "Man I need to get out more" ???

Cause me either, that dude's cray cray.

I hate running. 

Which is why I'm training to run a marathon again this year. 

It's majorly important to get comfortable doing things you don't want to do, especially when it comes to building a client list and servicing them. Because as much as people online talk about the joys of running your own business, there are sucky days too. 

Just like running for a long ass time (though I've never personally experienced the "joys" of running tbh). 

But it's the discipline of running consistently, eating right, and getting your priorities in order - that's the real goal. The marathon is just the cherry on top. 

If you have the North Star, the rest of your life falls into place.

Finding myself at a crossroad to start of the new year. 

On the one hand, continue writing for founders and building personal brands. 

On the other, going full-on into GTM consulting or joining another high-growth RevOps team. 

Lots to think about. 

If you're expecting an answer to which path I'll take, sorry. This is a truly off-the-cuff post that doesn't have the solution. It's more of a beginning of a series of posts as I process.

Interesting developments in the last couple of days....

You know those moments where the past truly feels like it's 20/20? How everything you've ever worked for, and all your past experiences come together? 

And then it feels like your eyes are fully opened to what lies ahead. 

Now it's just a matter of chasing all the opportunities in front of me. 

2026 is off to a good start.

If you want to get better at posting on LinkedIn, post some videos on Youtube. 

It's a lightning course on how to write hooks, how to retain watchers/readers, and how to get your thoughts out clearly. 

Not to mention there are retention graphs where you can see the exact points where people tend to drop off the video, something a text-based platform like LinkedIn can't do. 

Literally nothing will help you become a better communicator than posting a few videos.

I misplaced my phone this morning. Which meant I had to drop the kids off at daycare without it. 

Which meant a 15 minute car ride with no music and no navigation (even though I've been to the place thousands of times and don't need navi anymore). 

It also meant that I couldn't easily sign my kids in because nowadays the daycares all use QR codes and such to keep track of all the kids coming in and out. 

And then on the car ride back home, I got to thinking. 

When was the last time I physically couldn't do anything but think? To entertain myself with my own brain rather than relying on Instagram or music or podcasts? 

That's not to say that life has gotten harder with smartphones, but we've definitely lost the ability to be bored and alone with our own thoughts. 

Tbh pretty freeing experience. I feel like I unplugged from the Matrix for 15 minutes. 

Now back to doomscrolling.

The #1 rule everyone needs to follow whenst posting on LinkedIn:

You should only be posting if you have something to say.

The caveat to the rule is that everyone has something to say. You just need to package it well enough for other people to read. 

From the top executives to the sales interns, everyone has tidbits of knowledge. And besides, if being a CEO was the prerequisite for posting online, Linky would be a wasteland. 

So start posting. 

You probably won't get much engagement at the start. If ever. 

But the fact that you're writing out your thoughts and putting your experience to the keyboard is valuable. More than you know. 

Because when you learn to present your thoughts coherently to the world, you're unstoppable. 

And if you want evidence, look back to the 2024 elections. The better communicator won.

My sister shared that with me a couple years ago. (She's not on Linky so she won't get mad at me for sharing her secrets) 

And as unhinged as it is, the mindset's apparently led to some pretty substantial gains in life. Promotions at her job, new opportunities, the occasional free food/drink items at cafes, awesome connections with people she'd usually never meet, etc. 

All because she's more confident now. 

Definitely something to be said about that. Asians tend to be more in line with the "don't stand out in any way" mentality. That's why everyone looks the same in Korea, cause 1 mainline trend takes over and the entire country has to follow it. 

But a lot of opportunity comes from simply putting yourself out there and being more confident. 

Because who wants to go through life without living it to its fullest anyway?

Momentum forgives mistakes. 

Keep the momentum going enough to not have time to dwell on past failures.
