Aligning perception with leadership performance — the critical layer beneath strategy and mindset.

I almost never repost videos, but this one struck me. It's powerful.

We forget how fast the brain makes up stories. It has to. It fills gaps. It leaps to meaning. And most of the time, we trust that first story without question.

The officer in this video could have trusted his. He could have assumed disrespect, issued the ticket, and moved on, feeling justified and unaware that he missed the real story.

But instead, he did something important. He asked. He listened. He let curiosity interrupt his brain's prediction of what her actions meant.

In seconds, the moment changed. Not because of authority,  but because of perception.

Leadership works exactly the same way.

When someone is short, defensive, quiet, emotional, or “off," your brain will automatically give you a story about why. But that first story is almost always incomplete.

The real leadership skill isn’t staying calm, delivering a perfect message, or reacting with grace.

It’s this: Questioning the story your brain gives you before you act on it. Because power isn’t the problem — a prediction error in the brain’s automatic interpretation is. 

And when leaders choose curiosity over certainty, the whole moment shifts for everyone involved.
