Today, the WiBT Women in Blockchain Talks BARCELONA team are speaking at THE TALENT ARENA, part of Mobile World Capital Barcelona, on 'Blockchain for Social Impact: Empowering Diversity and Promoting Sustainability.'

It brought to mind the latest “State of Blockchain for Good” report from Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA), which confirmed something important for the #philanthropy and development community:

Blockchain has moved beyond pilots.

It is entering its institutional phase, similar to other elements of the blockchain ecosystem.

Across contributions from UNDP leaders, policymakers, industry and builders, one message is consistent:

The challenge is no longer whether blockchain works.
The challenge is #governance, scale, and alignment.

The report highlights five critical shifts:
• From experimentation → digital public infrastructure
• From technology-first → governance-first
• From speculative capital → catalytic, blended finance
• From isolated pilots → interoperable systems
• From hype → accountability and data integrity

For non-profits, #foundations and impact investors, this matters.

Blockchain is increasingly being positioned as infrastructure for:
– Transparent aid distribution
– Climate and carbon accountability
– Verifiable supply chains
– Digital identity and inclusion
– Trusted public registries

But scaling these systems requires:
✔ Institutional champions
✔ Regulatory clarity
✔ Patient capital
✔ Structured accelerator pipelines
✔ Builders who understand both impact and infrastructure

The next 12–36 months will determine whether blockchain becomes embedded within public systems- or remains a series of promising pilots.

This is a critical window for:
• Social impact founders
• Philanthropic capital allocators
• Development institutions
• Mission-aligned investors

If governance, provenance of data, and long-term systems change matter to you, this is not a fringe conversation. It is becoming core to digital public infrastructure.
