Marco Lopez is a business leader, former government official, and public servant who is passionate about helping others succeed. He is the CEO of Intermestic Partners, a business advisory firm that provides strategic business development and policy direction to both international and domestic organizations.

Marco has a proven track record of success in both the public and private sectors. He served as Mayor of Nogales, Arizona, at the age of 22, and was re-elected by an overwhelming majority. He also served as Chief of Staff at the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), where he helped lead an organization with a $13+ billion budget and 60,000 employees.

In business, Marco founded Intermestic Partners in 2011. He has also served as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and as Senior Advisor to the Chairman of Grupo Carso and The Carlos Slim Foundation. He has also advised presidential campaigns on topics of border security and safety, border trade and commerce, and economic development.

Marco is a passionate advocate for Arizona and its people. He believes that every Arizonan has the potential to succeed and that Arizona is a special place where anything is possible if you work hard and have a vision.

Participated in water resources planning, including coordination of the city’s partnerships in water regional strategic planning. Participated as a team member of the integrated strategic planning and budgeting process.

Responsible for the planning, control and implementation of the capital improvement program of the GRIC. Developed and staffed this new department with project managers and office support personnel. Supervised 12 employees and three contracted professionals. Managed 35 active projects in different development stages. Projects involved a wide range of complexity and budgets. Total funding in the five years plan was about $400 millions.   


Assistant Director of Public Works      (98 - 99)
The department of Public Works is charged with the potable water distribution, sewer collection and treatment, and solid waste collection of GRIC. Most engineering design and some construction were done in house. Supervised about 65 employees.  

Civil Engineer           (95 –97)
Performed planning, analysis of proposed operational schemes and engineering design for the Pima-Maricopa Irrigation Project (PMIP). Funding and oversight was provided by the Bureau of Reclamation. The purpose of the project is to bring CAP water to the Gila River Indian Community to be used primarily for agriculture, but also some municipal and industrial use has been identified. Flow rates ranging from 30 to 2,300 cubic feet per second.  This involved an extensive distribution and control infrastructure.
