We worked with a Swiss furniture retailer managing three online storefronts and a catalog of more than 700,000 products.

Most catalog problems in eCommerce don’t start as “big problems.”

They start as small inconsistencies.

One product has 8 attributes.
Another similar product has 5.

Two storefronts describe the same item differently.
Categories slowly drift apart.

At 500 SKUs, nobody notices.

At 700,000 SKUs, everything starts breaking.

The challenge wasn’t traffic.
It wasn’t conversion.

It was data discipline.

As the catalog grew, product attributes became inconsistent, taxonomy structures diverged across storefronts, and image metadata followed different standards.

The result was predictable:

Search results became unreliable.
Internal reporting started conflicting.
Product discoverability dropped.

So instead of fixing individual listings, we focused on fixing the process behind the catalog.

A dedicated data operations team worked inside the client’s systems to standardize attribute structures, normalize taxonomy mapping, and introduce layered quality checks before catalog updates went live.

How do you train a system to automate hundreds of thousands of everyday computer tasks… without the training data turning into chaos?

That was the challenge a large EdTech company faced while building systems designed to automate common digital actions people perform every day.

Things like:

• Navigating software interfaces
• Completing structured workflows
• Interacting with web-based platforms
• Responding to real-world user prompts

The goal was ambitious: automate hundreds of thousands of routine computer tasks.

But building the model was only half the problem.

The real challenge was training it properly at scale.

I keep seeing everyone celebrating the newest AI models.

New launch.
New benchmark.

And honestly… good for them.

But I rarely see anyone talk about the people who actually make these systems work.

The humans cleaning messy data.
The humans correcting wrong answers.
The humans labeling, reviewing, testing, and fixing things behind the scenes.

Because without them, most of these models wouldn’t look very impressive.

They’d just be very confident bullshit generators.

AI doesn’t become useful because a company launches a new model.

It becomes useful because thousands of humans make it work.

And after all the hype…

Those same humans will be the ones who actually use these tools to grow real businesses.

Funny how the most important layer in AI is the one nobody appreciates.
