The turning point of my career 🦄
I sensed there was something more for me. At times, I felt like I was in the wrong movie. I realized that a new title, higher salary, or a different company wouldn't satisfy this yearning. My next step would require courage.
So, I quit my job, gave up the perfect salary and the picture-perfect resume, without a Plan B. I exchanged security and external success for freedom and adventure. The reward: I discovered a new version of myself, one capable of achieving so much more by trusting myself, forging my own path, and letting go of the illusion of security.

The Unleashed Unicorn was born 🦄

Leading the entire marketing department was my goal. The first thing I did in this role was to personally meet each of the approximately 150 employees one-on-one. For me, people and culture come first. Together with the teams, I established a new marketing culture, rejuventated the brand's image, and strengthened the department's relevance to the overall company. I had the opportunity to build something meaningful and inspire people for my cause. It was exactly my thing. Once the transformation was complete, I knew it was time for a new change.

I had just returned from Africa when I was offered the chance to transition into marketing. I was ready for a change, so I accepted the challenge. Naturally, I wondered if I could manage it, as the marketing department needed a complete transformation. It turned out to be the perfect opportunity for me: I was able to create, shape the strategy, build and develop teams, and relaunch the brand.

A larger team, more responsibility? Yes, that's what I wanted. I needed a change and a new challenge was exactly what I was looking for. Again, I was able to travel to countries such as Denmark, Sweden, and China - and I was able to work with different cultures. I loved this variety of working in a startup setting and with an amazing team. I was able to create, test, and implement as well as be myself around my team at all times.

My first official leadership position: I discovered my true passion. Working with and for people, and fostering their development. It became even clearer to me how important it is to lead authentically and with empathy – and that doing so yields the best results. The conditions were perfect: I had the opportunity to lead a startup within a corporation, make it successful, work internationally, and build my own team.

Even though everyone advised me against leaving McKinsey after just two years, I followed my intuition and did it anyway, even if it meant a nearly 30% pay cut.

Because once again, during the interview, I felt that unmistakable "hell yes." It was time for a change: I wanted to implement, create, and take on responsibility. I also had significant exposure to business development and corporate politics, learning how to navigate these areas effectively.

Project Lead Marketing & eCommerce Strategy Denmark 

I fulfilled another dream: To travel across Africa and climb Mount Kilimanjaro. For many years, I hoped that the opportunity would arise on its own, but it didn’t. So I took fate into my own hands. I asked my employer and was allowed to take several months off as the first employee to do so. Yes, it’s possible even as a leader. This was a significant step out of my comfort zone and towards discovering myself. On this journey, I felt more free and authentic than ever before.

Sabbatical in Africa

McKinsey & Company

I have always dreamed of working for this company. But at the same time I wanted to stay in the marketing field. I was beyond excited to learn that McKinsey hired people particularly for marketing strategy consulting. So I decided to give it a shot. 

And yes! Courage was rewarded! From the first to the last moment of the interview, I felt a resounding "hell yes." I was able to be myself, and that's how I made it to McKinsey.

First job: Dream job! I experienced variety, worked on marketing strategy topics, traveled extensively around the world – and gained financial freedom plus a significant boost in self-confidence. I was able to work with incredibly smart and interesting individuals - the learning curve was super steep.

Working with students has been incredibly enriching for me. Guiding them with advice and support, teaching them about marketing, and igniting their passion for the marketing field.
