Last Friday's Clay × HubSpot Panel Discussion was one of those evenings that reminded me why I love this community.

102 people showed up after a long week, and the room still had more energy than most weekday mornings.

I had the chance to speak alongside some sharp GTM operators -

Srikrishna Swaminathan(CEO of Factors.ai),  
Kushagra T. (Co-founder RevenueGenie), 
Sankaran Jeyaraman (Growth at HubSpot). 
Shakthivel Matheshwaran 🥾 moderated the panel and kept the conversation tight and focused.

We went deep into how GTM has shifted in '25, and what operators need to prepare for in '26.

A few things became very clear:

1. AI agents in sales are becoming real ,but not magic.
We unpacked the difference between agents, MCPs, and workflows, and where humans still matter. The next 12 months are going to be interesting.

2. Multi-channel > everything else.
Email / Single channel alone won't cut it anymore. Deliverability shifts, channel limits, and changing buyer behaviour mean GTM teams need email, LinkedIn, ads, and phone working together — not in isolation.

3. GTM Engineering is here to stay.
Tooling has become easier. Execution is faster. The real value now sits in strategy, architecture, copy, and orchestration. This role is only going to get more important in 2026.

4. Tool-choosing itself has become a skill.
Every week there's a newer, better tool. Founders and teams are picking stacks based on stage, outcomes, and where new tools can actually outperform the old ones - not because it's trendy.

Last month at a Clay Club meetup, someone walked up to me and said something I won’t forget anytime soon.

He told me the previous meetup changed his life.

LinkedIn just declared war on meeting requests. 📉

Here's what happened:

Guy invites me to an event. I say "tell me more." 

LinkedIn blocks his reply with a safety warning: "This sender appears to be trying to move the conversation off LinkedIn."

Not for spam. Not for automation.

For someone trying to… book a meeting.

Let's make it real: this conversation was a bait-and-switch.

But here's the bigger signal ! LinkedIn is now actively discouraging people from setting meetings via DM.

The new reality:

>  Ask for a meeting too early → flagged
>  Drop a Calendly link → flagged / friction layer
>  "Let's Hop on a quick  call?" → flagged 

LinkedIn wants conversations to stay on LinkedIn. Period.

So what works now?

Give first. Share a playbook. Tag them in relevant content. Offer a something they want. Build rapport before you ask for 15 minutes.

Relevance + patience > spray & pray.

Outbound isn't dead. But the shortcuts are.
