20 years ago, I was asked the worst interview question by a CEO.

“What can you tell me about your upbringing and your parents?”

My parents had just finalised their divorce after years of lawyer ping pong. The scars were still too fresh. I became flustered and a wave of embarrassment hit me.

Should I tell the CEO that my dad had just gone bankrupt because my mum was no longer part of the family business? How much is too much to share?

Somehow, I turned this awkward moment around.

It must have been my presentation that featured pictures of my hubby’s Audi and my dad’s Trabant. I linked it to how I was going to transform the company’s international presence from a lame Trabant to a sporty Audi. This was the story I was ready to share.

When we were in the early stages of the AI boom, I was a super sceptic. I even delay upgrading my phone because I do not enjoy learning new tech. 🙈

But because I work with tech and agency founders, I get direct access to some of the brightest early adopters.

They share their screen, let me ask all my questions, and somehow make tech learning and discovery feel more doable for me.

And I have been impressed with what AI can do.

I'm still a basic user. But over the last six months, I've also learned that the AI tools I know are not great at truly tackling founders’ LinkedIn Berlin Walls of Fear.

Because you can simply ignore the guidance you get.

There is no

1. Helping you settle on a niche that strengthens your messaging and agency sales - because you believe in the decision
2. Reading between the lines and picking up body language clues when you struggle to express your thoughts 
3. Giving you space to reflect on a tricky question before asking it again, because a decision is needed 
4. Creating new habits that stick and do not feel overwhelming for you and  the team
5. Ongoing accountability to help you step out of your comfort zone, again and again.

P.S. In your own work, what has surprised or frustrated you when working with your favourite AI tool?

How does your team make you feel better when your week has been a bit of a rollercoaster? 

My son has a stomach bug, so there were a few 4 AM starts to the day. No amount of caffeine intake can fix that 🤣

My hubby has a sore back. 
Mr O only agreed today to finally see an osteopath. 

So when I met Imogen Allen to update her on our latest 3 new clients, A LOT was on my plate. 

Not only did we explore the next steps with each of the clients, but Imogen also 

Offered me a bit of on-the-spot coaching and talking therapy ☺️

I'm grateful! She sent chearful snowmen pictures.

She reassured me that any working parent would feel the pressure when the spouse & kid are cranky & unwell. And the juggle seems a lot.

That our client processes are solid and that working through their LinkedIn and marketing puzzles is progressing nicely! 

Plus, she helped me formulate a wunderbar plan for preparing for a new talk I'm working on. 

Agency owners juggle many hats, from working on their business, to client delivery AND being present here on LinkedIn. When you surround yourself with good people, everything feels that little bit easier.

10 being super icky.

Your resistance to deciding a niche for your agency's marketing efforts runs super deep. I coach agency owners on their LinkedIn strategy, and picking their most important audience is a massive LinkedIn Berlin Wall of Fear.
 
And I get it. My first website featured at least five services:
 
Award entry writing
Content marketing audits
Marketing strategy consulting
Social media training and content
Personal brand coaching for agency founders
 
Deciding to focus felt impossible. And frankly, I wasn’t in a position to turn any work away. But this indecision slowed me down. How could I 

Become known as a relatable expert or charge my worth across all of these? 
Keep up with the changes across all platforms? 

So over the years, I narrowed my focus. I started to target agency owners with great potential (my fourth strongest MCode motivation) who feel ueber LinkedIn reluctant.
 
They also need to be ready to make changes, because making a real impact is my third strongest driver see my chart below 🤩 And because I know my clients’ MCode, I can help make big decisions feel easier.
 
In 2025, I helped agency founders transform their content niche from:
 
• Direct clients for their agency to be seen as a white label provider 
• Tech leaders to marketing leaders instead, who struggle with tech
• Thought leaders to the ideal decision makers for their agency’s services
 
How do you rate your own LinkedIn niche on a scale from 1–10, with 10 being super focused and happy with the results?

If you want to achieve real change in your agency, your goals need to matter to you. 

2024 was the first time I designed a vision board to show me the actual things that would make a wunderbar year.

Doing this had always felt a bit too woohoo for me. But I wanted goals that made me feel something. I added photos and words that reflected what brings me joy, both in my personal and business life. 

Saving it as my screensaver was the best thing ever.
It reminded me every day why I do what I do.
It kept me going when things got tough.

When the juggle of being a working parent felt like too much.
When proposals were ghosted or sales conversations ended in a no.
When I caught myself doomscrolling and feeling stuck in comparison mode.

When I coach agency founders to build a LinkedIn strategy, we explore their why, personal brand values and goals that truly matter to them. Not because we’re feeling woohoo, but because:

Forming new LinkedIn habits
Turning up braver for your ideal audience
Making decisions like what niche to focus on

Often pushes you out of your comfort zone.
You might want to give up too soon.

But when you keep going, that’s where real growth and those ‘aha’ clarity moments happen.
