Ignoring it doesn't make you noble — it makes you naive. You don't have to play dirty, but you do need to understand the game.

People are already talking about you. The only question is: are you shaping that story, or letting others write it for you?

Your next opportunity will come from someone you know. Not Indeed. Not LinkedIn Easy Apply. A human who remembers you.

7️⃣ "𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝘂𝗲𝘀" 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱.
There's a difference between learning and being taken advantage of. If you're doing director-level work on coordinator pay, you're not building character. You're being used.

8️⃣ 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁. 
If you’re not a little terrified, you’re not growing. If you're the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room. 

9️⃣ 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁.
There's no “right” moment to ask for that raise, make that pivot, or start that thing. Waiting for perfect might mean waiting forever.

🔟 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗿—𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼.
The linear path is dead. Your power comes from the unique combination of skills, experiences, and perspectives only you bring.

The truth? No one teaches you this because the system benefits when you stay quiet, grateful, and in your lane.

But when we become the CEOs of our career, the possibilities are endless. :)

Which truth hits hardest for you?

Just got back from a week in NYC, and I’m still processing what my team pulled off while I was gone. 🗽

(I 100% would not be able to do what I do without their support)

While I was running between meetings and events, they kept everything moving without missing a beat. Client deadlines met. Media articles reviewed. New leads followed up on. All while I was sporadically online.

When a reporter needed eyes on my quotes in a story? They handled it.
When a client needed to finalize details for a speaking event? They figured it out.
When I didn’t do a great job of getting back to them on things? They adapted.

This is what having a team you trust looks like. ✨

I’ve heard that the best managers work themselves out of a job. I agree! While I’m not looking to stop running my company anytime soon 😅, I was so proud to watch things run smoothly without me. It means I’ve built something real and found amazing people to support me on this journey. 🥹

Of course, there is always room to improve, so here’s what I will do differently next time I’m away:

• Be crystal clear on priorities before I leave — not just what needs to get done, but what’s truly urgent vs. what can be pushed out a week
• Be intentional about finding pockets of time to reply on Slack; I had gaps of time in between meetings but it was by chance, not through planning
• Give them permission to make decisions without me — I realized they were sometimes waiting for approval when they already knew the right answer

Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it. 💙

When I started at LinkedIn, I was often the youngest in the room (and I felt super self conscious about it). 

I’ve coached dozens of rising leaders who’ve felt that exact way.

👉 Your age isn't your weakness. Your perspective is your power.

The executives around that table? They're looking at problems through 20-year-old lenses. 

You see what they've become blind to.

Here's how to own your seat at that table:

1️⃣  Replace apologies with curiosity
Stop saying: "I might be wrong, but..."
Start saying: "I'm curious about..."

Curiosity positions you as engaged, not inexperienced.

2️⃣  Become the translator
You speak both languages—the new and the established.
→ You understand AI tools they're still Googling
→ They have context you're still learning

Bridge that gap: "What if we combined our institutional knowledge with this emerging approach?"

3️⃣ Preparation is your superpower
→ Know your data cold
→ Anticipate questions (ask a mentor what they'd challenge)
→ Have supporting evidence ready

Over-preparation compensates for under-experience.

4️⃣ Channel your energy wisely
Don't mimic their gravitas. Bring what they can't:
→ Fresh perspective without cynicism
→ Questions without political agenda
→ Speed balanced with thoughtfulness

5️⃣ Own the follow-up
Send the clearest, most comprehensive notes they've seen all year.
Your attention to detail becomes your signature.

Start celebrating the reality: you're already at the table.

The rest? That comes with time. :)

Robert Half Real Talk: The 2026 Salary Trends You Can’t Afford to Miss

Years ago, I sat in a virtual meeting with Brené Brown at LinkedIn.

Last week, I watched her on stage for the first time—being interviewed by Reid Hoffman, LinkedIn's founder—at the Masters of Scale Summit.

Such a fun full circle moment. 🥲

Here are 5 takeaways from Brene’s session that every business leader needs to hear:

1. Have courage to say "I don't know"
MIT Sloan research showed that 90% of AI investments fail with no ROI. Why? Less systems thinking in leadership. You have to have the courage to say, "I don't know" to avoid creating a self-referencing system.

2. Understand empathy types (it's nuanced)
Cognitive empathy = Making people feel valued, seen, heard
Affective empathy = Feeling what they feel

The first builds trust. The second feels helpful but isn't. 
Most leaders confuse them.

3. "If you can't name it, you can't tame it"
Emotional granularity is a business skill. Leaders who can articulate "overwhelmed by competing priorities" vs just "stressed" solve problems faster.

4. Stop confusing urgency with productivity
Brené said we need more "productive urgency," not just urgency. 
Strategic risk-taking, not just risk-taking. 

The best leaders have enough self-awareness to say they want to pause and be more strategic, even "if they feel like they're coming out of their skin." 

5. Action ≠ Impact
Too many leaders are choosing movement over meaning. Activity over outcomes.

When imposter syndrome hits, these phrases always show up first:

(I know because I used to use them… a lot!)

In meetings: "Sorry, can I just quickly..."
In emails: "Maybe we could try..."
To compliments: "Oh, it was nothing really."

Sound familiar? 😅

I noticed these phrases rear their ugly heads early in my career, and it’s something I now see teaching and coaching so many other ambitious professionals.

Here are 5 phrases quietly killing your presence (and what to say instead):

1️⃣ "𝗦𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗯𝘂𝘁..."
→ Replace with: "I need your input on..."

You're not bothering anyone. You're doing your job.

2️⃣ "𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝘂𝗺𝗯 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻..."
→ Replace with: "I'd like clarity on..."

There are no dumb questions. Only missed opportunities to learn.

3️⃣ "𝗜'𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲..."
→ Replace with: "Here's my perspective..."

If you've thought it through, trust your analysis.

4️⃣ "𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆..."
→ Replace with: "I have an update on..." or "Let's discuss..."

Stop shrinking your ideas. They matter.

5️⃣ "𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱..."
→ Replace with: "I recommend we..."

Leaders don’t minimize. They communicate with clarity and conviction. 

The shift is subtle but powerful. 

When you stop apologizing for taking up space, people stop questioning whether you belong there.

👉 Remember one small detail about someone and bring it up the next time you talk.

It could sound like:

Many of us wake up to 100+ emails 🥲

I used to think that replying quickly and getting to inbox zero was me being productive.

Here's what I remind myself:
• Your best work happens in deep focus, not in your inbox
• 'Always available' ≠ 'high performer'

While I still love a good 'inbox zero,' it’s become extra apparent as a business owner that being productive isn't about how fast you clear emails — it's about protecting your energy for work that actually matters.

This feature allows you to send the email when people are most likely to open it based on their past email patterns. (🤯)

Skip loud, crowded happy hours. 
Choose events with sessions you want to learn from and industry leaders you want to meet.

3️⃣ 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟯-𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝘂𝗽
→ 24 hours: "Great meeting you. Here's that resource we discussed."
→ 2 weeks: "Saw this [article] and thought of you."
→ 6-8 weeks: "I have a friend you might be interested in meeting, let me know!"

Consistency and follow-through build trust.
