A self-taught artist, Lionel finds inspiration in the dynamic energy of both his city of Lille and Yaounde (Cameroon) his Cameroonian and French roots and creates pieces that are rich in music culture. Lionel Thomas has also found inspiration in Jazz and Blues music.

Thanks Quikr, Basquiat’s friend, who I met during an art fair show in the North of France, and blessed my art. - ONLY three black artists there, including me… how many doors shut my way, in my country. Inspiring me to go to New York, which I did.
