Over our first 6 months we have grown thousands of people on our email list and gained thousands of followers across our social channels.

I make bad business decisions all the time. 

Here's the latest one. 

We just dropped these hats to find out what the state's favorite area code is. 

(I personally love the 574, but I know the 317 is going to be tough to beat!) 

Here's where the bad business decision comes in... lets talk numbers. 

Hats + Embroidery: $24.50
Payment processing, packing and shipping: $8.00

When its all said and done we make $7.50 in profit for each hat sold. 

Then I heard about the Angel Tree program that gives gifts to Hoosier kids that might not otherwise have gifts this holiday season. 

When I heard this program serves over 5,000 kids, I knew we had to do everything. 

So we put up $1,000 from the hat sales as the grand prize donation to support children in the winning area code. 

If we don't sell over 130 hats we are going to lose money on this.

We're still a still a startup... startups don't stick around when they lose money. 

The spreadsheets will say this is a bad business decision, but I've never been much of a math guy. 

The state of Indiana has been so generous to me, this is the LEAST I can do.

Last week I posted about our area code hat project, and it got an insane response, over 37,000 people saw it on LinkedIn. 

For those that didn't. 

We are donating $1,000 in gifts for kids this holiday season. 

Right now it is looking like that money is going to Marion County, but you never know what is going to happen! 

We have sold around 100 hats thus far and will close up the order in early December.
