When you say “yes”, you end up in some pretty unexpected places.
 
I had the opportunity to take my family to a beautiful resort last week. But it wasn’t purely a vacation.
 
I was there to teach Zumba. (I’ll give you a second to wrap your brain around that visual).
 
I’ve actually been a part-time Zumba instructor for almost fifteen years. It’s been a lot of fun and a good way to keep myself healthy.
 
But the trip and those years of fitness and fun all stem from the first “yes” - the one that got me into a Zumba class at 8:00am on a Saturday morning at my local YMCA all those years ago.
 
Back then, my friend knew I was looking for a new fitness activity and to meet some new people. She suggested I check out Zumba. So I walked into that class and timidly hung out in the back. I was the only dude, and I couldn’t follow all the moves. 
 
But at the end of the class I was sweaty and smiling, so I stuck with it.
 
Looking back at the beginning of that first class, though, it’s not like I walked in with a big, enthusiastic “YES!”. It’s just that I was open enough to try this new thing.
 
So in my typical “here’s what you can learn about business from my non-business experience” twist… 
 
What can you say “yes” to?
 
It doesn’t have to be big. You don’t have to know where it will lead. You just have to give yourself permission to try.
 
Because when you say “yes”, you end up in some pretty unexpected places. 😊

There's something about in-person conversations that can't be replicated when we connect online.

I'm not sure what it is.  I know there's a lot of research and ideas, but I'm not sure it matters why.  The same conversation had in-person resonates in a way that the exact same conversation over video just wouldn't.

I still love the reach and connection that digital tools have given to us.

But I still return to the simple human pleasure of standing in the same place as someone else and having a conversation about...well, whatever.

If you are in a sales or business development role, the spring event season is such an important opportunity to connect with prospects and customers.

And most of us only scratch the surface.

Here’s a simple strategy that leverages LinkedIn and Sales Navigator to hit the ground running when you get to the event. 

The key here is to engage with the speakers before the event because they are:

⭐ the influencers of your industry and you can build influence by engaging with them.
⭐already connected to many of your prospects/customers and you can ride their coattails into new relationships.
⭐thought leaders and you’ll learn something by paying attention to them.

➡️ Here’s what you do.

1️⃣ Before the event (the farther out the better), get the speaker list for the event. It will be advertised on the event website as the agenda is one of the selling points.

2️⃣ Save the speakers as Leads to a Lead list in Sales Navigator titled “Event XYZ 2026”

3️⃣ Twice a week, use the Sales Navigator Newsfeed filter to see the posts from those individuals.

4️⃣ Like and Comment on their posts

5️⃣ The week before the event, send them a connection request and say, “looking forward to seeing you at Event XYZ”

6️⃣ Go and say hi at the event.

Sometimes nothing will come from this connection. Sometime syou’ll get introduced and have conversations that you would never have had without your pre-event work.

But if you are going to an event, doesn’t it make sense to get the most from your time as possible?

Are you failing in your 2026 goal of posting more on LinkedIn?

At this point, we’re 2 months in, so either you’ve jumped on the content bandwagon or you have written it off as just another failed resolution.

STOP.

Don’t give up. 

There’s so much to gain from activity here on LinkedIn. If you want to stay on the radar of your prospects, customers, and partners, LinkedIn is still a key channel.

But too many people give up too early because it’s a slow burn.

Here’s what you can do right now, today, to post in March.

➡️ Open up a new document.

➡️Complete these 4 sentences. You can be as wordy or short as you want.

The biggest challenge I see my customers facing is ______.
My favorite feature in our solution is _____.
The biggest misconception our buyers have is _______.
I work with my company because ________.

➡️Post the answer to each question on Mondays in March.  Use the native scheduling tool to put them all in today and have them go live throughout the month.

What if these are just one sentence? 
Great.

What if they are eight paragraphs?
Great.

Either way, they are your point of view. Your perspective.

And that’s what people want to see from you.

So take each of these and schedule them into LinkedIn posts that will go live on each Monday in March.

You can add more throughout the month, but at least you have something to start with!

“I’m not sure if there’s a direct connection here, but I think you two would enjoy a conversation.”

This is the secret weapon of every great networker. 

Too often people think that getting to know others is the key to building a network. 

But that’s just the start.

You take it to the next level when you start bringing others together.

That’s when you start building some Networking Karma. You’re paying it forward.

But what stops too many people is that they think there has to be some obvious business reason that they are making the connection.

If that exists, great! But you don’t need to know how these two people are going to work together. You just need to think that they’ll get along and find a conversation interesting.

Let them decide what they’ll create together.

Maybe they have shared background, shared hobbies, kids the same age… or they might just be on the same energy level.

Your job isn’t to do all the relationship-building work for them.

Your job is to see the potential and make the intro to get things started.

Here’s how you do a little match-making. Write a list of 3 people you’d like to make a connection for. Keep them top of mind. And when you encounter someone who you think would be a good intro, send a quick email.

Then cross that person off your list, write a new name, and keep going.

The key is to keep them in mind so when you stumble across the opportunity, you’ll be ready to go.

If you have Sales Navigator and you haven’t saved at least one Lead search, you aren’t taking your job seriously.

Harsh?  

Maybe. But for all of the talk of using AI as a tool, it surprises me how few sellers are taking advantage of the low-hanging fruit that’s out there. (OK, maybe I’m not too surprised).

The reason that Saved Searches are so useful is simple: first mover advantage.

Most sellers use the Advanced Search function to find new prospects and contacts. Which makes sense.

But when you Save that search, you’ll get an email from LinkedIn once a week with new results from that search.

These are people that, in the last week, now satisfy your search criteria. That means they just changed their profile to land within your target.

They just got hired, promoted, or suddenly cared enough to update their LinkedIn profile.

And you can know about them right away. 

That doesn’t mean that you are going to reach out immediately and try to sell them. But you know what is happening at the account immediately.

But when we talk about buyer intelligence and intent signals…this is table stakes. Don’t you want to know who the players are at your most important accounts?

Don’t wait. Go to Sales Navigator and create an Advanced Search for your ideal contact at a prospect account. It doesn’t even matter how many results it pulls up. In fact, the fewer, the better (because it means you are incredibly focused on your ICP).

And pay attention to the emails that show up in your inbox every week. There’s gold in there.

“When speed becomes cheap, judgment carries a premium.”

If you are in sales right now, you need to internalize this axiom.

The marketing expert Ann Handley shared this idea recently in an article about AI panic. But I thought about it from a sales perspective.

Because it’s a mistake to think that AI is going to automatically change the sales game.  It increases the velocity of information. And it opens access to insights.

But if you don’t know how to leverage that information and insight, you’re still going to struggle. Our customers are dealing with that right now. And if you can’t offer a path forward, they aren’t going to talk to you.

For the last twenty years, technology has provided more and more capabilities to sellers. And yet the number of sellers who struggle, who don’t hit quota, who don’t move the needle for their customers…well, that has stayed the same.

If you are bouncing around LinkedIn right now looking for some sales ideas, I would focus you in a different place than a lot of the sales gurus:

Develop your professional judgement. Learn how to take the sea of information and insights that your prospects are swimming in and make it useful and actionable for them.

I wrote about the Sales Sherpa™ path in Hyper-Connected Selling almost a decade ago. And it’s more relevant than ever.

You need to be the guide that shows your prospects how to move forward when the deluge of noise is paralyzing them.

Define the possible for your prospects. And then show them how to get there.

If you do that, you’ll find the success you want.
