Oracle

I was appointed to build an email delivery solution fully deployed within Oracle’s Cloud for Industries (OCI) data centers and integrated with on-prem messaging products (creating a fully native solution and a secure, highly available service). I grew the team from 15 to 30+ to meet the needs of the expanding service.
I ensure a first-class service experience for customers, including quick adaptations to changes. I maintained and supported the Dyn Email Service with over 300 enterprise customers, enabling their migration to the new OCI platform. I oversee enhancements to improve operational efficiency and customer usability, as well as adding peripheral services. 
Among my achievements:
❖Created service features and capabilities to enable substantial daily email growth, including both transactional and marketing emails in over 20+ regions worldwide. Managed US and International Cloud data privacy and security compliance audits for the service.

❖Expedited ramp-up and grew the reach of the service by accelerating deployments to new regions, improving operational tools and metrics, and managing a dynamic on-call schedule.

❖Planned and executed a seamless migration from the Dyn datacenter based system to the new system while managing multiple disparate systems concurrently.

❖Established email functionality for COVID-19 Therapeutic Learning System within a 3-day timeframe.

Software Development Director, Oracle Cloud for Industries (OCI)

I led all aspects of the development and product management for the Oracle Unified Communications Suite, a set of software products with over millions of users worldwide. I focused efforts on transforming the suite into a Cloud offering while maintaining support for existing on-prem sales. I directed, coached, and mentored a team of managers and engineers in the U.S., China, and India. I provided input on the annual budget, and interacted with customers to provide engineering support for large deployments. Past successes:

❖Took on leadership of a best-selling product and modernized its technology stack. Replaced Berkeley DB with a Cassandra backend store to improve availability; migrated from Lucene to Elastic Search.

❖Played critical role in capturing an on-prem contract that enabled the unit to meet its revenue requirements while pursuing new Cloud offering opportunities.

❖Conceptualized and implemented new strategies to reuse underlying messaging components and the core technology across Oracle’s Cloud offerings, leading to multiple new projects (SMTP Server for email blaster and notification services; XMPP Server for IoT device communication).

❖Reached across multiple organizations within Oracle to identify synergies and futures for product offerings. Eventually led knowledge transfer and handover of the products to a new team.

Software Development Director, Communications Global Business Unit 

I spearheaded efforts in launching Oracle’s Collaboration Cloud service (SaaS offering based on the Unified Communications suite). I led and coached multiple teams in defining architecture and implementing deployment of micro services. Additionally, I directed multiple agile engineering teams in developing additional components for the Unified Communications Suite (e.g. Mobile Sync Project), with the teams geographically dispersed across Europe, China, India, and the U.S. I oversaw product security compliance activities, including risk, static, and dynamic analysis. I am proud to have:

❖Introduced multiple tools to improve productivity, including Confluence, Jira, and Hudson; researched and instituted Agile based best practices.

❖Influenced a major customer to sign an additional agreement following presentation of Oracle Communications Messaging Server benefits.

❖Identified as a “High Performer” with high growth potential by Oracle’s Talent Review Board in 2016.

Senior Software Development Manager, Communications Global Business Unit 

I joined the company following Oracle’s acquisition of Sun. Handled both Product Manager and Team Lead duties for multiple products, including Calendar and Contacts Server products. I provided the technical direction and guidance for the team, including engineering input for product roadmaps. I served as a Scrum Master on a day-to-day basis, assigning tasks for each sprint, and identified technologies to utilize in product development activities. Notably, I:

❖Conceptualized, developed, and launched a new Contacts Server product (based on CardDAV) that completed Oracle’s Communication Suite. Implemented key alarm and notification features utilizing JMQ technology and command line administration tools that communicate to the server over JMX.

❖Served as a Board Member and VP of the Calconnect Consortium (2012-2018), a non-profit organization that promoted general understanding of the calendaring and scheduling methodologies/tools used in creating Interoperability Standards. Acted as a Chair of the Calendar Resource Technical Committee and an author/contributor of internet drafts and RFCs published at IETF.

Sun Microsystems

I led the team in the development of the Sun Java Calendar System product, and also in integrating the Sun MTA with Netscape’s Mail Store to build a better iPlanet email solution. Key highlights:

❖Designed and implemented server features for Sun Java Calendar System that included group scheduling, time zone management, and XML/XSLT-based user interface.

❖Implemented critical features of the Sun Internet Mail Server, including multi-tenancy support, automated vacation reply, and anti-spam filtering.
