DataDNA – Pharmacy Sales & Profitability Analytics Challenge

“Revenue is up +4.4%, but margins are flat at 28%. So… what’s the unlock?”

That’s the question I explored in my Power BI report for the Onyx Data January–February 2026 Challenge, analyzing 120 pharmacy stores across 8 European markets.

🎯 The Insight
Growth isn’t the problem — efficiency is uneven.
• 	Germany, France, and Italy lead on volume
• 	Austria and Belgium outperform on margin efficiency
• 	Rural and newer stores quietly deliver stronger margins despite lower scale

📉 The Battleground: Promotions
Promotions currently protect efficiency (~20% margin) but don’t drive it.
That’s where the next profitability unlock lives.

⚙️ Technical Approach
I tried something different this time — using calculation group items as my KPI cards, paired with field parameters, to simplify metric switching and keep the executive view clean and intuitive.

I also introduced product velocity drill-downs across store maturity and lifecycle status, segmenting items into slow/core/fast movers for deeper optimization insights.

Finally got around to exploring MCP servers in Power BI and it’s been an incredible game changer.

Setup looked like this:
• 	Downloaded VS Code
• 	Installed extensions: GitHub Copilot Chat + Power BI MCP Server
• 	Opened a Power BI Desktop report
• 	Downloaded Claude AI Desktop
• 	Connected via settings → developer → edit (Claude connection script)

Then the fun began — through prompts I explored:

• 	Creating date tables for cleaner time intelligence
• 	Establishing a clear naming convention
• 	Ordering measures for easier navigation
• 	Adding descriptions to all measures (future me will thank me!)
• 	Introducing bands and tiers to tables for richer insights
• 	Overall model optimization for performance

What struck me most is how once the connections are in place, prompts become the real driver — turning setup into discovery and making every small improvement feel like a breakthrough.

How healthy is our enterprise data posture — and where should leadership actually intervene?

I recently wrapped up an Enterprise Data Governance Power BI report built for the FP20 Analytics – ZoomCharts Challenge 34.

Even though the challenge has wrapped up, the insights felt worth sharing.

🔍 Key insights from the report:
High data quality scores can coexist with elevated compliance risk — stability doesn’t automatically mean safety

Critical data risk is highly concentrated, not evenly distributed across the organization.
~60% of remediation cost is driven by non-compliance, pointing to control design and enforcement gaps rather than data volume
Targeted control improvements in high-risk areas offer faster risk and cost reduction than broad remediation spend.

The report focuses on enterprise posture, risk concentration, and intervention prioritisation, using ZoomCharts drill-down visuals to move cleanly from board-level signals to operational detail.
