My journey has been quite the ride. 

But trust me, it's been worth every twist and turn.

Being self-employed was very fulfilling, but it wasn't without its challenges. 

I had to stay on top of my "game" while also managing the plethora of responsibilities that come with running your own business.

The tight deadlines and long hours often left me drained, stressed, and exhausted. 

My mental & physical health was suffering and I really struggled to maintain healthy boundaries in my daily life.

This wasn't sustainable for me.

I realized that If I wanted to play the long game,

I had to take better care of myself. 

There was no other way.

So, I started incorporating self-care practices into my daily routine, 

Such as meditation, exercise, and spending more time in nature and with the people I love. 

Not only did it improve my productivity, but it also boosted my overall health & well-being,

And gave me a renewed sense of purpose

See, when you are sleep-deprived, stressed, and exhausted, everything feels like grinding,

But when you are well-rested, relaxed, and energized,

Things become almost effortless.

I was always a health & nutrition “geek”, 

But being self-employed for all these years, really made me understand the hardships and challenges of running your own business.

But done right, it can be one of the most fulfilling things we can do.

If you’ve read this far, you’re probably wondering what the military has to do with coaching and entrepreneurship.

Honestly, a lot.

Jocko Willink is a big advocate of how military principles apply to life & business.

When I joined the military, I was a young adult with no sense of purpose and no real direction in life. 

What followed was a life-changing experience that helped me improve my resilience and shape who I am today.

As a battlefield communications operator (it sounds kind of cool but it really wasn’t), 

I was responsible for ensuring that all the communications equipment worked reliably, even under the most adverse conditions. 

Thank god, I didn’t have to go to combat, 

But even the training was sometimes quite intense.

I had to develop a level of discipline that went far beyond anything I'd experienced before. 

I had to work long hours, often with little sleep, and sometimes in extreme temperatures or harsh environments.

But discipline wasn't just about physical endurance. 

It was also about mental resilience and attention to detail.

Following procedures to the letter, even under intense pressure. 

The military drilled this into me every day (the hard way).

And you know what?

Running a business takes discipline,

Busting your *ss in the gym takes discipline,

Changing your habits takes discipline.

Everything valuable in life has to be earned.

With discipline and hard work.

There’s no way around that.

Hardships and challenges are quite uncomfortable, but literally shape our character.
