What's an internal podcast? It's when you use a podcast for internal communications--in this case, to accompany a massive change management strategy after the merger of two credit unions.

The challenge was to make a podcast about work...that doesn't feel like work when you're listening to it. Working closely with a cross-disciplinary team from marketing, communications, and strategy, we developed a podcast that shared actual stories, from actual people, that brought the credit union's new values to life.

Accenture Insurance Influencers Podcast

The Accenture Insurance Influencers Podcast was ostensibly about seismic shifts in the insurance industry, from evolving customer expectations to the rise of digitally enabled insurtechs. It soon became clear the podcast was actually about change—how it’s perceived and how we choose to respond. We explored topics like how self-driving cars fit (and don’t fit) into regulatory frameworks, how insurtech will (and won’t) change the world, and how to level up leadership in the insurance (and beyond).

I hosted, produced and researched the podcast over seventeen episodes and three seasons. I also developed and implemented the content strategy for the podcast, which included a dedicated landing page, blog posts with full transcripts to optimize for SEO and social sharing, audio and visual assets for social media, and custom assets for guests.

The podcast earned over 400,000 social media impressions in its first season alone and was mentioned in the keynote of InsureTech Connect 2019, a premiere industry conference.

Edible Vancouver & Wine Country is a print and digital magazine that celebrates local, sustainable food, publishing 10 issues per year. I wrote and edited countless features and short-form stories; researched, edited, and planned front-of-book pieces; developed, tested and edited recipes; and proofed issues, armed with a stack of sticky notes. I also edited features and mentored freelance writers.

The Well-Tempered Chocolatier

What started as a curiosity turned into a ten-year career, including a book, countless presentations and press mentions, and a lot of chocolate. As a chocolate educator, I taught people how to appreciate chocolate—where it comes from, how it’s transformed from start to finish, and how factors like provenance and production affect how it tastes. 

I’ve taught chocolate-tasting classes around the world and produced the 2013 and 2014 Canadian competitions of the International Chocolate Awards. 

From 2014–2016, I was the in-house chocolate consultant for Cook Culture, a BC-based cookware chain that sells craft chocolate. I developed and led an in-person professional development course for the staff, advised on merchandising and purchasing, and taught cooking classes.

The Vancouver Courier was the city’s longest-standing community newspaper, sadly shuttered in 2020. I wrote a monthly sweets column that focused on local businesses and the personalities behind them. When I started, I was sure I’d only have enough material for one year of the column. I’m glad I was wrong—not just for the longevity of the gig, but for the benefit of sweet tooths (teeth?) in the city. Many of my columns were syndicated in other Glacier Media publications, such as Business in Vancouver, North Shore News, and Richmond News.

Rouxbe Online Culinary School

Today the notion of an online cooking school seems ordinary, but at the time Rouxbe was an outlier. I helped the team pivot from a website with videos—and into a process-driven, cross-functional team developing interactive content for a custom learning management system. That meant knitting together instructional design, user experience, video production, and culinary instruction into a seamless, engaging learning experience.

Together, we launched three certificate courses in plant-based cooking. I developed and wrote a food safety module that is now offered as a standalone course for global hotel chains. As the sole editorial team member, I standardized the Rouxbe process for content development, created and maintained the company styleguide, and translated reams of chef-speak into plain language.
