I started as a legal assistant and worked my way up through the “law firm ranks”. I know how a law firm runs day to day. When you hire me as your fCFO I bring my financial expertise and my law firm operational experience to our meetings.

These are my trophies for the three years I worked as Scott Vicknair’s fractional CMO.

When David Vicknair reached out in late 2022, he wasn’t just looking to do more marketing. He wanted to build a company that would grow fast and hold together under pressure.

In my opinion, that mindset is a marketer’s dream.

David cared deeply about marketing, but he cared just as much about building a strong team.

At one point, David compared running the firm to coaching a sports team. His job was to make sure the players were prepared, supported, and positioned to perform.

That approach showed up in the results.

With TV ads, community marketing, PPC, and good old-fashioned list-building, the firm saw over a 350% increase in case signups in 2024. Growth like that only works when the systems, people, and leadership are ready for it.

David was excited about new strategies, but he didn’t blindly buy in. He pushed for data, gave initiatives time to work, and made decisions based on the numbers.

Because of that balance, the firm grew quickly.

When David told me they were hiring a full-time CMO, I was sad. And also proud. This is the best possible outcome of fractional work. If you do it right, the company eventually needs someone in-house.

It’s bittersweet, but I’m no stranger to moving on.

So when someone promises to “rank you in AI,” they are applying Google logic to a system that does not behave like Google. At best, that is ignorance. At worst, it is a sales tactic.

We keep talking about AI as if it produces rankings.
It does not.

Google rankings are stable by design.
Two people searching “car accident attorney in Manassas” will see nearly identical results.

AI is not built that way.

AI systems synthesize answers in real time from many sources.
They may cite an article.
They may mention a firm.
They may do neither.

A citation is not a ranking.

Your content can be referenced in an AI overview without your firm being recommended.

And even if your firm is mentioned once, there is no guarantee it appears again for the same prompt.

There are already case studies showing this clearly.

Run the same AI query from two different accounts and compare the outputs.

Different firms.
Different ordering.
Often very little overlap.

No consistency means there are no rankings.

This matters because firms are spending real money chasing a concept that does not exist.

AI visibility is about relevance and contribution in the moment, not holding a position.
