Abraham Path Initiative

While working on the autonomous project Meeting Abraham, The Abraham Path Initiative invited both Lisa Dupuy and Daniel Maissan to be fellows. Being a fellow of the initiative means we are closely involved in exploring the possibilities in the region, scouting hiking routes, as well as searching for meaningful connections to further the ideas and ideals of the Abraham Path Initiative while working on the project in Iraqi Kurdistan.

One of my big dreams, is to walk the Abrahams Path; a 4000 km route through the Middle East. Together with journalist @Lisa Dupuy, we've divided the route in 10 stretches and we started walking October 2019. After a stretch in Jordan, a second one in South Turkey, at the Syrian border, and a 3rd stage in Iraqi Kurdistan, we're looking into our 4th stretch.

In the past decade and a half I have been commissioned by many different employers, ranging from private work, to magazines and newspapers to advertising agencies and fashion brands. All assignments have taught me something and still are till this day fun to work for. My heart though, is in capturing social, humanitarian issues through visually engaging stories.

Wander the World With Us

An experiment in which Daniel travelled with his girlfriend Maartje around the world creating stories along the way. Destinations were unknown and so was the duration of the experiment. 
Maartje left to return home after three months. During the remains of his 9 month trip, Daniel worked for several foundations like the Friendship Foundation and Stichting Havonos, both in Sri Lanka and Creating Possibilities Nepal, Dopper, Karuna and Reach Out Too foundation in Nepal.

After 20+ years, my photographic work experience is extensive. It ranges from documenting intimate journalistic stories for foundations and organisations, to capturing the vulnerability of Dutch music artists who have asked me to focus on something different than just the regular concert photos. It includes high profile weddings in the Netherlands and abroad and reportage style content and portraits for various magazines. My images can be characterised as stemming from curiosity and engagement, creating a true connection between the people I photograph, myself and the audience who will later on look at the images. Working with the inconspicuous Leica rangefinders and their short lenses ensures visual stories that are so intuitively shot, they will have the spectator live all moments vicariously.
