TL;DR: I'm good at understanding really complicated things and explaining them in plain language. During my interview, my former nonscientist boss asked me to explain to him (in less than five minutes) how nuclear fusion works. I got the job.

Less than a year out of college, I was eager to apply my college degree directly to my work (and that's tough to do with a BS in Space Physics). I accepted a job as the physics product manager for American 3B Scientific. I learned all aspects of product line management, including marketing and sales, customer service, and product education and training. I regularly attended trade shows in the education industry, such as NSTA, CAST, and AAPT, to network with our target customers.

🔵 I gained invaluable business development and marketing experience that would shape the later parts of my career.

In my work as a product manager, I worked with products ranging from middle school through advanced college-level physics labs. It was my job to understand the complex subject matter and explain and troubleshoot the products with customers at varying levels of scientific knowledge. The position also required knowledge of databases, copywriting, time management, and marketing skills.

During my internship, I relied on my analytical capabilities as a physics major. I spent countless hours in the library (and even earned an award), committed to learning the basics of quantum chromodynamics (QCD), so I could calculate a similarity transformation for quark propagators in lattice QCD. I assisted in programming background field methods for lattice QCD used to calculate the polarizability of hadrons.
