A powerful reflection ...

Happy New Year to my professional network, colleagues, and friends.

This past year was a powerful teacher
.. and not always in subtle ways. I spent a lot of time over-extending, absorbing stress, and stepping in wherever there was a gap. Eventually, my body made it clear that “pushing through” wasn’t sustainable (three stress-related hospital visits will do that).

So I paused... and started rethinking how I take care of myself and how I lead.

At my core, I am, and always will be, a servant-oriented leader. I care deeply about people, I support my teams, and I’ve never hesitated to step in when something needs to get done. That mindset has shaped my career and the relationships I value most.

But this year I’ve learned something important:

Being a servant leader is a strength — until it turns into self-sacrifice.

In order to meet company goals *and* my own professional objectives, I’m evolving how I lead. For 2026, I’m focusing on blending servant leadership with stronger strategic leadership:

• clearer direction and decision-making
• stronger boundaries around scope and ownership
• greater accountability and team empowerment
• more time on vision, alignment, and outcomes

Less “I’ll take this on because I can” ... and more “I’ll enable the right people to lead.”

And because leadership growth isn’t just professional, here’s the fun part:

After losing 100 lbs this year, I’m now celebrating something unexpected… **new baby hair growth** 😄

It’s a small, silly thing, but it feels symbolic.

Regrowth. Renewal. Strength returning in new places.
A reminder that when we take care of ourselves, everything else grows healthier too.

This next chapter is about leading with clarity, sustainability, and purpose — without losing the heart-first leadership that has always defined me.

Here’s to growth — in every form — in the year ahead.

What's something you've done for yourself lately?

I left a group chat. 40+ people on a text chain. I knew 10. It is a "6th grade moms" group chat. I have a few dear friends on it, know some other lovely ladies in there, and then the rest of women are moms from my son's school grade. I wasn't asked to be in the chat; one day, I was added. "boop!" just like that.

I didn't announce my departure. I thought I should. I didn't want folks to think "wow, that was rude..." as I did it on the heels of one mom posting a wonderful fundraiser for one of our community's own. The message popped up, and suddenly so did many others. 

In the grand scheme of things, it wasn't that bad...but... between work, close friends group chats, family, spam, coupons, all the things... I felt a sudden overwhelm and honestly, a true sense of ownership and empowerment in my own space. 

I don't have to be in everything. FOMO doesn't reign over me. I have a solid group of friends and family, I have enough notifications to drown in, and I do a lot for my community. If I bothered anyone, I knew in my heart it wasn't intentional and they could reach out to me. 

My typical motto is to be super communicative. I want everyone to always know what's on my mind. Why I do the things I do. I don't like to leave people guessing or wondering "did I say something? is she ok? what's going on??" but... after I hit "leave chat" I laughed and said to my husband "I did it! I left without notice.." to which he responded "you don't owe anyone anything.." 

And while I half agree with that sentiment, I still messaged the mom who sent the fundraiser on the side, to thank her, and let her know I already donated. 

This felt monumental in my space of respecting my own nervous system. I have a few people to thank for helping get me here .. though some of them might say "you could have left a quick note just to say why you left...and still left..." but honestly, I have explained myself enough. 

It's going to be a good day with one less "ding!" 

(I have plenty of other ways to communicate with my community )

Do you ever think about collecting all the wonderful people you've worked with in your career, and starting your own thing together? Who knows what it is, could be a side non profit, could be your own company someday... I often think about what it would be like to have all my favorites in one place just buzzing along, kicking ass, and taking names. Or .. you know... living in high performing team lanes. That said, I have A LOT of faves (and I work with many of them today!), it'd be a pretty big event. 😁 maybe a circus... but a pretty damn great one! (Also, Greatest Showman... LOVE)

It is surreal to open LinkedIn and see business as usual while so many of us in the U.S. are processing a weekend that was anything but.

Many of the people you see smiling on Zoom, posting professionally, and showing up reliably every day are carrying things you will never see.

And yet they are still here. Still answering messages. Still contributing. Still being measured on output, tone, and responsiveness.

Professional composure is often mistaken for personal ease. They are not the same thing.
Most people are not “fine.” They are functional.

This is not a call to lower standards or abandon accountability. It is a reminder to lead and interact with more humanity than the calendar invite requires.

If someone seems quieter than usual, slower to respond, or less polished than they were six months ago, assume complexity before judgment.

Empathy does not require agreement. It requires noticing that the world is landing unevenly, including on the people who seem totally fine on camera.
