Samson Dental Practice Management, LLC

Leveraged change management experience to manage multiple Training, Development, Marketing and HR focus projects; reported to CEO.  Worked to improve communications, on-boarding, training and development of corporate and employee culture in the growth of 21+ dental practices across 6 markets.

•   Coordinated, compiled and published quarterly company newsletter and Special Recognition Edition.  Expanded sections with interviews and interactive elements to receive very positive feedback.  Managed intranet communications and email blasts.
•   Collaborated with Marketing to develop first B2B plan and    collateral to serve as foundation for potential business growth and expansion.
•   Created first employee recognition program with approval of HR Director targeted to roll-out in fall 2012.  Managed all provider/dentist and employee recognition.  Designed, managed and delivered Distinguished Performance Awards plaques for 21 locations by practice and individual.
•   Researched and conducted a thorough 19 company Competitive Market Analysis, which served as crucial ongoing tool to the Board of Directors.

Special Projects Manager

Stepped into the gap to develop, implement and manage all marketing, communications and promotional materials for 21 dental practices in 6 markets within annual budget; reported to CEO.  Created press releases, billboards, radio commercial, phonebook ads, direct mail, special offer campaigns and materials for health and job fairs.

•	Coordinated, compiled and published quarterly company newsletter, in Adobe InDesign.
•	Monitored Sales Representative referrals and provided marketing support for direction and materials.  Developed, rolled out and managed on-the-ground sales program targeting point-of-need locations.
•	Supported 2 new practices with press release, 4-week radio ad, multiple mailers and specific test offers for that market.  Special offer campaign greatly increased new patient flow.

Marketing & Communications Manager

United States Gypsum Company (USG)

Conducted all aspects of HR function for 70 employee production facility; change management, employee relations, communications, talent development, event planning, managing programs, new hire placement, discipline, and legal reporting.

•	Refocused and led the Safety Committee to gain positive exposure and progress to attain company goals and gain buy-in.  Redesigned the Employee Suggestion Program, increasing efficiency and ease.
•	Maintained positive employee relations despite reduced production schedule.  Researched and initiated a Shared Work Plan for unemployment to be a subsidy to employee pay, increasing employee morale.
•	Consistently communicated corporate-wide and local Plant initiatives; generated the weekly plant-wide newsletter, managed postings, communicated to employees daily on production floor, and facilitated multiple meetings to connect corporate visions with local plant goals and results.

Human Resources Manager

Provided human resources services for a 280 employee multi-production line facility, including employee relations, change management, training, event planning, benefits administration and recruitment.

•	Safety Team Mediator, contributed to the publicity campaign by featuring team members in each newsletter.  Led the OSHA VPP communications group, promoting awareness through articles, posters, screen savers and meeting topics.
•	Conducted a production line shutdown, which involved 60 permanent layoffs.  Served as prime contact throughout process; tending primarily to the needs and questions of individuals affected by the layoff, while managing morale of existing employees through effective communication.

Human Resources Supervisor II

•	Championed change management process of $150 million rebuild of a 59-year-old plant to an efficient state-of-the-art facility.  Communicated reselection process when employees reapplied for current positions.  Maintained non-union workforce through construction, start-up phase and beyond. 
•	Communicated with employees regarding changes and progress of plant transformation and employee reselection process, while simultaneously addressing employee concerns.
•	Designed and executed streamlined multi-phase hiring process, including large advertisements (resulting in 300+ applicants), 28 off-site info sessions, 49 interviews, 2 pre-employment training courses and 4 new hire orientations; resulted in 23 higher caliber candidates.  
•	Hired 63 new employees with 78% retention rate; administered entire process, while managing project deadlines and informing applicants of their status at every stage.  
•	Facilitated wide array of intense training at numerous employee and supervisor meetings to increase employee skills for reselection.  Every employee met or exceeded the desired goals.
•	Organized multiple employee appreciation events, resulting in positive employee morale.
•	Promoted safety through continuous communication, meetings, orientations and maintenance of multiple contests.  
•	Collaborated with managers to develop Operator Rate Program that reflected job descriptions for new plant positions and provided standardized format across departmental lines.

Impact Catalyst | From Disconnected to Connected Impact for Leaders, Teams & Orgs | Strengthening Inner Ecosystems & Integrating in the Open for Generative Results

Most “resistance to change” I saw in corporate innovation wasn’t defiance.

It was protection.

Teams would say:
“We want to move faster.”
“We’re ready to experiment.”
“We’re committed to this new strategy.”

And then, under pressure, the old patterns would quietly snap back into place.
It wasn’t because people were lying. It’s because there was a second, hidden commitment running at the same time:
“I can’t risk looking incompetent.”
“I can’t afford to upset this stakeholder.”
“I can’t let go of control — what if everything falls apart?”

The Immunity to Change™ work (from Robert Kegan and Lisa Lahey at Harvard) gives language to what I’d been watching for years: a psychological “immune system” that protects leaders from perceived threats, even when they genuinely want to grow.​

In my work with Upward & Inward, I start with the individual level before touching “team change”:

✅  Each leader picks a real, high‑stakes improvement goal.
✅  They map their own “immunity” — the competing commitments and big assumptions underneath.
✅  Then they run a 30‑day leadership experiment in the wild, inside their actual constraints.

Only after that do we look at the patterns that show up across people and ask:
“What is this system as a whole committed to protecting?”

If you lead a team that says all the right things about change but keeps looping the same behavior, it’s probably not a messaging problem.

It might be an immunity problem.
