The fastest way to feel poor is to focus on what you don’t have.

The fastest way to feel abundant is to notice what you already do.

Early in my career, I was obsessed with the next milestone.
The next promotion.
The next stage.
The next credential.

I told myself I’d feel satisfied when I arrived.

But here’s what I’ve learned—both in corporate boardrooms and in my own life:

Gratitude isn’t passive.
It’s strategic.

When you appreciate what you have, you operate differently.

You show up more confident because you’re not coming from scarcity.
You make decisions from strength instead of fear.
You build relationships from generosity instead of need.

And ironically?

That’s when more good things start showing up.

Not because the universe is keeping score.
But because your energy shifts.

What you focus on grows.

If you focus on what’s missing, you’ll always see gaps.
If you focus on what’s working, you’ll start seeing opportunities.

The job you once prayed for.
The partner who stands beside you.
The health that lets you get up and try again.
The child who still wants to hold your hand.
The community that shows up for you.

It’s easy to miss the blessings when you’re chasing the next goal.

But abundance isn’t something you earn later.
It’s something you recognize now.

Try this:

Before you start your day tomorrow, write down three things that are already going right in your life.

Then build from there.

Gratitude doesn’t mean you stop striving.
It means you strive from wholeness instead of lack.

And that changes everything.

There are moments in life that feel like an ending.

A layoff.
A divorce.
A diagnosis.
A season of depression where even getting out of bed feels heavy.

When I was laid off from my executive role years ago, I thought it was the end of the story. My title was gone. My identity felt shaken. I couldn’t see the path forward.

What I couldn’t see then…
was that like a caterpillar, the old me had to die. 

Metamorphosis is not pretty.

The caterpillar doesn’t gracefully sprout wings. Inside the chrysalis, it dissolves. Its old body literally breaks down before something new can form.

Growth feels like death because you are saying farewell to the parts of you that no longer serve you for the next part of your journey. 

The old identity.
The old story.
The version of you that could survive but not yet soar.

We resist these seasons because they feel like loss. And they are.
But they are also preparation.

You may feel like your life is falling apart.

What if it’s falling into place?

What if this layoff is clearing space for work aligned with your purpose?

What if this heartbreak is teaching you how to love yourself more deeply?

What if this dark season is strengthening muscles you didn’t know you had?

Becoming requires letting go.

You cannot fly with the weight of who you used to be.

And here’s the part we don’t talk about enough:
The cocoon phase is lonely. And awkward . It’s quiet. It feels like nothing is happening.

But transformation is happening in the dark.

If you’re in that space right now, don’t rush it. Don’t shame it. Don’t numb it.

Trust it.

You are not ending.
You are evolving.

And when your wings are ready, you won’t have to force the flight.

You’ll simply rise. 🦋

One question has guided many meaningful decisions in life:
“Why not?”

Not in a careless way.

More like a quiet moment where you realize something about life.

Waiting rarely removes the uncertainty.

For a long time, many of us sit with the “what ifs.”

What if it doesn’t work.
What if I’m not ready.
What if it’s the wrong moment.

So we wait.

But over the years, I’ve noticed something interesting.

The people who grow in meaningful ways don’t always feel more prepared than anyone else.

They simply decide not to let hesitation run their life.

They try things.

Sometimes it works.
Sometimes it doesn’t.

But every step teaches something that thinking alone never can.

You learn what matters.
You discover strengths you didn’t know you had.
You meet people you wouldn’t have met otherwise.

Many meaningful turns in life start quietly like that.

A conversation you almost didn’t start.
A class you finally signed up for.
A path you were curious enough to explore.

Looking back, very few people regret trying.

But many regret the moments they stayed in “maybe someday.”

Sometimes the shift that moves life forward is small:

From “what if it goes wrong?”
to
“Why not see where this leads?”
