I used to hide the parts of my story that made me who I am.

But lately those are the parts I’m most proud of.

My mom ran a small cleaning business when I was a teenager.

Just her, a vacuum, a spray bottle, and me tagging along from time-to-time.

She cleaned for professors, doctors, people who felt so far from the world I lived in.

I dated a doctor's son and I was embarrassed she cleaned for his doctor friends.

And I also remember being embarrassed walking into those houses with her.

Not because of her.
Because of what I thought it said about me.

Looking back now, it was probably my first exposure to entrepreneurship.

Bootstrapped.
Client-based.
Reputation-driven.
Word-of-mouth before social media existed.

My mom was meticulous.

She learned to clean when she was a teenage hotel housekeeper, and she carried that same level of pride into every home she touched.

She made spaces feel inviting.
Warm.
Safe.

Funny enough, that’s what I try to do with my work now, just in a different medium.

Help people feel seen.
Help brands feel human.
Help leaders walk into the digital world with the same care she put into those living rooms.
