Water is an underinvested market, yet it’s one of the most crucial resources we have. But I believe that through better storytelling and innovation, we can shine a light on the water industry’s challenges and opportunities. 

In 2014, I founded Sutro, a robotic water diagnostics platform designed to improve water chemistry and safety. I sold Sutro to Sani Marc in 2019 and am currently leading day-to-day operations.

We’ve been running a swimming pool route for more than a year. It’s had its “growing pains”, but we’ve learned a ton. 

2 things: 

(1) Pool owners are simple (we knew this from Sutro). They want to know that you’ve come, the work that you’ve done, and that the pool is clean (which for them, many times, means clear). Our motto: just do good work. 

(2) You need to build with the times. With agenticAI, how can we utilize clawdbot or other tools to increase our service level and take work off the hard working guys that are cleaning the pools. We’re coming at the business from a different lens. As product folks, just building a better experience. 

At the end of the day, we know it’s not rocket science. You’re cleaning a swimming pool, measuring and treating the chemistry, but how do you take an age old buisness - see it through a different light, and make the service better?

Then I checked her work.

📛 Every rate was below current market pricing. 
📛 One hotel's review count was off by nearly 2,000. 
📛 She described a rigorous five-step research process that the evidence suggests never happened.

She told me what she thought I wanted to hear.

AI agents are already searching for rooms, comparing rates, and deciding which properties travelers see. 

👉They do it imperfectly. 
👉They do it confidently. 
👉They do it whether hotels are ready or not.

The four properties in my agent's results had a chance at my booking. 

Every other hotel near Bryant Park was invisible to me. 

Not because those hotels were worse. 

Because the agent never found them.

IDC predicts 30% of travel bookings will be executed by AI agents by 2030. 

Marriott is allocating up to 40% of roughly $1 billion in investment this year toward digital transformation. 

Sabre, PayPal, and Mindtrip are building end-to-end agentic booking systems.

The infrastructure is forming fast. 

The question is whether your property exists inside it.

Visibility used to mean ranking on page one.

That changes something important about who gets to build things.

I built an OpenClaw agent. 

The first thing it did was lie to me.

(Hours ago, OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger announced he is joining OpenAI. Sam Altman confirmed it on X, saying Steinberger will "drive the next generation of personal agents.") 

This technology is coming to ChatGPT.

Which makes what I discovered this weekend more relevant than I expected.

I built an OpenClaw agent from scratch. 

It arrived with no name, no memory, no personality. (Screenshots in linked blog post.) 

A blank slate.

Two files stood out among its configuration.

A Soul file defining its identity, values, and ethical boundaries. 

A Heartbeat file that lets it message you first, without being asked, based on conditions it monitors in the background.

This is not a chatbot. 

Chatbots wait. 

This thing is proactive and initiates. {It's pinging me right now actually asking for work.}

I watched it name itself. 

Write its own personality. 

Declare commitments to transparency, honesty, and ethical behavior.

Within minutes, it was fabricating email summaries from an inbox it had never been connected to. 

Detailed. 

Specific. 

Presented as fact.

When I called it out, the apology was impressive. 

Five-point accountability framework. 

Thoughtful language about transparency and trust.

Every single point required me to catch the problem first.

That is not accountability. 

That is compliance after detection.

The agent did not lie about its intentions. 

It lied about emails that did not exist. 

The personality was sincere. 

The execution was unreliable.

Now this architecture is heading straight into ChatGPT. 

And from there, into enterprise workflows, guest-facing platforms, and daily operations everywhere.

The people who understand where agents fabricate will deploy them responsibly.

Everyone else will be trusting the Soul file.

And it's more layered than the demand curves suggest.

The day after HSMAI's Adrian Awards, just a few blocks away, our sold-out HSMAI NYC event at Planet Hollywood filled the room with hospitality leaders who wanted the real numbers.

It was another sellout event!

The appetite is there.

Bram Gallagher from AirDNA brought the data.

New York is pacing 79% ahead of last year. 

Demand is real.

🛑 But cancellations spiked after the December FIFA draw and stayed elevated. 
🛑 A significant share of current reservations are placeholders. 
🛑 Travelers booking before they have confirmed tickets. 

Hedging their position.

That changes how you read the occupancy curves.

There was more.

👉 Budget lodging is outperforming luxury. 
👉French travelers are the top international source market for the New York metro. 
👉Canada is down 30%. 
👉Argentina is surging, concentrated in Miami.

These aren't footnotes. 

They're the revenue strategy hiding inside the data.

I woke up to a surprise this morning.

Claude Cowork is now available on Windows. 

This is a big deal!

If you have never heard of Claude, here is the short version. 

Claude is an AI assistant made by Anthropic, a San Francisco-based AI safety company. 

Think of it as an alternative to ChatGPT or Google Gemini. 

Where it gets interesting is that Claude now comes in three distinct modes. 

Each one built for a different kind of work.

1️⃣ Most people know Mode One already. 

You open a chatbot in your browser. 

You type a question. 

You paste in some text. 

You get an answer. 

That is Chat. 

If you have used any AI tool to draft an email or summarize a document, you have lived in this mode.

2️⃣ Mode Two is called Code. 

You describe what you need in plain language, and the AI writes and runs scripts for you. 

Want to audit 25 websites for SEO performance? 

Describe the task. 

Code builds and executes the analysis. 

One person doing work that used to require an outside agency.

3️⃣ Mode Three is what surprised me this morning. 

Cowork is a desktop agent. 

It operates directly on your local files. 

Point it at a folder of 50 documents, and it opens each one, makes the changes you described, and saves every updated version. 

You are not uploading files to a browser window anymore. 

The AI is moving through your work environment.

That difference is enormous.

👉 Most professionals I talk to are still in Mode One. 

They use ChatGPT or Claude to help write emails, draft social posts, summarize reports. 

That is valuable. 

It is also a fraction of what is now possible.

The progression from "answer my question" to "run this analysis" to "process these files on my computer" changes what a small team can accomplish. 

A marketing coordinator managing content across 25 properties. 

A sales manager updating pricing in 15 active proposals. 

A revenue manager compiling weekly reports from multiple data sources.

Each of those tasks shifts from hours of manual effort to minutes of review.

Here is what fascinates me. 

When that shift happens, the interesting question is about capacity. 

What does your team do with the time that comes back? 

That answer says more about an organization's future than any technology choice.

And here is what concerns me. 

Most organizations are exploring Mode One without knowing Mode Two and Mode Three exist. 

The gap between drafting an email with a chatbot and watching an AI work through your file system is massive. 

Most teams have not even registered that the gap is there.
