Water is an underinvested market, yet it’s one of the most crucial resources we have. But I believe that through better storytelling and innovation, we can shine a light on the water industry’s challenges and opportunities. 

In 2014, I founded Sutro, a robotic water diagnostics platform designed to improve water chemistry and safety. I sold Sutro to Sani Marc in 2019 and am currently leading day-to-day operations.

Today, as President of Sutro (a subsidiary of Sani Marc), I oversee the development, marketing, and sales of smart water monitoring devices. Our technology is trusted by some of the biggest brands in the industry, and we are the only NSF-certified autonomous device for water safety.

In 2022, after 2.5 years at an investment bank, I quit my job to become an SDR at a Series-A startup. At the time, it seemed like a risky move, but in retrospect it was the best career decision I could have made. Being an SDR taught me invaluable lessons about how to handle rejection, manage objections, build relationships, and ultimately sell. 

Today, I am the Managing Partner at TopSDRs, a search firm focused on placing exceptional early career professionals into sales roles at startups backed by the world's best investors. this is a pretty awesome SDR story that I think is worth sharing. 

a few weeks ago on Oct. 1 my phone started ringing. I didn’t recognize the number, but I decided to pick it up just for kicks. 

On the other end was an SDR named Paul Ladouceur. 

We had never met before, but he told me that he had come across TopSDRs on LinkedIn and wanted to chat about potentially finding a new role at a startup. 

I told Paul I’d be happy to chat more and we set time for a longer call the following day. 

Over the course of the next six days Paul and I connected several more times including in-person at our October Happy Hour. Within ten days we had him in front of several of our partner companies, within three weeks he had an offer in hand, and within four weeks Paul, @chris, and I were out to dinner in NoHo celebrating Paul’s new role on the GTM team at Shield. 

The whole saga was such a good reminder for me of how it’s always worth it to take the leap and do the uncomfortable thing. I’m sure Paul had a million reasons pop up in his head NOT to make that initial call. However, he pushed through those and in the end he is joining the founding GTM team at one of the most impressive businesses we’ve ever worked with. 

In addition to Paul, I also want to extend a HUGE congratulations to Jake Wornow and James Lewis who will also be joining the founding GTM team at shield. Each of these guys have great stories in their own right too. 

Jake replied to a cold DM that I sent him out of the blue and was willing to hop on the phone with me to hear me out and James has been a staple of our SDR network here in NYC for some time now. He’s come to many of our in-person events, supported us as we’ve built, and has left a great impression every time we’ve connected. 

Congratulations to all three guys and thank you to Casey Botts and the team at Shield for running such a great process. We’re excited to be a part of this initial build out and can’t wait to follow along as you continue growing!
