A couple of weeks ago at DMM Conference in Zagreb, Croatia… it all went down. Luckily, there was no need to save the whole world – just the business world.

But to be fair, I really struggled to post about it 😅

Make sure it’s crystal clear who you help, how you help them, and why they should care.

✅ Connect with intent
Don’t just collect contacts – build relationships with people in your field.

You don’t need to spend 2 hours a day on LinkedIn. But if you spend 2 hours a week doing the right things, you’ll already be ahead of 90% of that 47%.

We were reviewing clients' posts yesterday. The topic: how to get more comments on content without adding questions at the end.

We used to put questions at the end of every post. 

"What do you think?" or "Have you experienced this?" at the end of every post.

Questions do generate engagement. But our clients still need to look decent. If the question is weak or forced, it looks like they're begging for comments. So we stopped. We'd end either with the advice or with a mic drop line to leave the reader with.

But when we pulled the posts that actually get comments, we found something else.

Those are strong takes. The kind that either gets someone to agree and comment in agreement. Or makes someone take the opposite side to the point they need to comment.

So, if you want comments, you need strong takes.

This weekend, I was thinking - we're closing in on 10 clients, and I finally realized what we've been missing. A simple dashboard showing exactly how many posts we have pending.

When I was the only writer, I just knew what needed to be done. I'd do as many drafts as possible and then try to finish as much content as I could. I'd plan all the pieces in my head. But now we're onboarding new writers, and that mental system doesn't scale.

We would go to each client's dashboard and, using the calendar view, see what was coming up and plan it separately. So we're building writer dashboards in Notion. When someone wakes up, they can just see all the stuff that they have to do today on the dashboard.

Such a simple thing. But gives so much clarity. 

We really needed to put that planning ability on Notion. It helps me know what's coming up (as a writer), and it'll help me to know what needs reviewing as I move into that role. 

Most agencies hide behind vague weekly goals. We are making the work visible daily instead. Underperformance becomes impossible to ignore - for everyone.

PS. I'm not really behind on 17 posts. It's just for illustration purposes 😉

Every week, I see another post complaining about LinkedIn's reach tanking. "Organic is dead." "LinkedIn is forcing us to pay." Yeah, well... maybe it's not LinkedIn.

Our clients start with 2,000 to 4,000 followers. Yet they get anywhere from 20K to 100K+ impressions per month. On the same platform, everyone says it's broken.

I'm not saying things haven't changed. 

But it can't be the only thing.

You can't do the same thing you did six months ago and expect the same results. The bar moved.

When we analyze our flops (and trust me, we have them), it comes down to two things:

𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀: Does it include a real story with a lesson that actually applies to your ICP? Not some vague "be consistent" sermon, but something they can immediately use or relate to.

𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Does the hook grab attention? Is the pace tight? Is it easy to read or genuinely interesting? What's in it for the audience? Are you forcing some cringe takeaway at the end because you think you have to?

For example, we stopped doing "actionable" advice a long time ago. Now it's more introspective. Showing the problem through a story. 

Overall structure (there's a lot more to it, ofc):

- Share a 2-paragraph story with specific details
- Transition smoothly to the business lesson
- Close with either reflection or soft engagement

The story becomes the vehicle for the lesson. A literal "show, don't tell."

We've experimented a lot with formats, hooks, etc. But lately, this is what has been performing. So that's why I don't think it's just LinkedIn "forcing" you to pay.

We realized why some of our clients' posts weren't hitting - they were talking about themselves instead of talking TO the reader. The emotional journey was completely missing.

We were reviewing a post that was technically perfect. Had all the right information. But it just felt meh, very matter-of-fact. It didn't draw anyone in. The whole post was "I did this, I learned that." Zero connection to what the reader was experiencing.

We rewrote everything to literally talk to the reader. Instead of a generic "here's what happened to me," we changed it to "here's what you're probably going through."

Most ghostwriters focus on making their clients sound smart. But readers don't care how smart your client is. They care about their own problems, struggles, and wins.

Now every post gets this test: Are we talking TO someone or about someone?

Last week, we analyzed 100s of pieces of content across our client accounts to find the outliers - the posts that completely outperformed everything else. 

We wanted to see what their hooks had in common.

The patterns were ridiculously clear.

Every high-performing hook had at least 2-3 of these elements:

𝗡𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆: Exact numbers in the first line. Not "many" or "several" - actual digits. Specificity creates instant credibility.

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁-𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲: I, we, my, our. Personal stories > abstract concepts.

𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗴𝗮𝗽: An unanswered question or a "but" that creates an open loop. People have to keep reading to close it.

𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀: Yesterday, last week, 2 years ago. Time references create urgency and relevance.

𝗧𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Conflict, contradiction, mistakes, problems. The drama 😂

𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳: References to teams, people, companies. Others doing it = validation.

𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮: Research, findings. Evidence-based claims build trust.

The top combinations we saw repeatedly:

- Numbers + first-person + curiosity gap
- First-person + social proof + time reference
- Numbers + tension + authority data

These elements have always worked - I was intentional when doing some of these, a few others surprised me, but made sense once you look back at them now.

Also, it's worth noting that some flops shared the same elements. My guess for why they underperformed was either that the timing was off or the idea was not overly interesting, but worth reposting in the future to test.

I'm not convinced the LinkedIn algorithm has changed that much. One of our clients (screenshot) with fewer than 3,000 followers reached 234,000 impressions. Organically.

People said the same thing about Instagram and TikTok before; yet, those with good content still stand out on both.

Crazy to think I've published 421 posts so far this year. 

We are adding all sorts of new graphs and dashboards to track our progress and be able to see what's coming up more easily. 

For context, we began with two clients in February and March. We'll be 9 or 10 by the end of November. So it's easy to track things when you have up to 4-5 clients. 

But anything after that starts to get messy, especially when you have to take into consideration timelines for things like client interviews (and their prep), choosing which ideas to write about, drafting them, and having them reviewed internally, and then having the client approve them.

But as we do that, we are finding out these cool stats. Figuring out what content has been working consistently across clients and what elements are recurring in those top posts, etc
