In 2012, I completed 15 years in the corporate world.

12 years ago, I walked away from a cushy corporate job.

The decision wasn’t impulsive.
It was made from a hospital bed, recovering from burnout.

5-hr work commute. 16-hr days.
Multiple projects across 3 time zones.
I was hardly present for my wife and our two little kids.

On most weekdays I didn’t see my kids at all.
I left before they woke up, returned after they had slept.
Even Sundays were often occupied by work. Forget vacations.

What hit me in that hospital room wasn’t exhaustion.

It was regret.

Careers can restart.

This book broke many myths that stop leaders from writing their book. Read how to break them.

A book cover is not graphic design.

It is positioning in one glance.

When we were working on 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘓𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘉𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘦, the title didn't change.

But the cover did.

Three times.

Because for a nonfiction book, the cover must do three things:

1/ Signal the core idea immediately
2/ Stand out well, even as a small thumbnail
3/ Align visually with the book’s genre and theme

The first version looked good on screen.
We did a test print.
In hand, it didn’t feel right.

The second version felt better.
But beta readers felt it wasn't serious enough.

The final cover worked because it matched the thesis.

This book is about 
- Building systems
- Escaping the hero trap
- Reducing dependency
- Creating decision clarity
- Scaling without constant intervention

The best thing I like?

I’ve written over 2,563 LinkedIn posts for myself and for clients.

Across founders, CXOs, experts.
Operators building serious work.

Some of those posts didn’t just get attention. 
They changed careers and built businesses.

There’s one pattern I’ve noticed.

Posts don’t convert because of topics.
They convert because of 𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯.

Most people start with:
“Write about leadership.”
“Write about growth.”
“Write about visibility.”

That produces noise.

Strong posts begin with 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.

- Speed vs judgment.
- Growth vs discipline.
- Visibility vs credibility.
- Control vs scale.

When there is tension, readers lean in.
Because they are living that tension already.

Your audience doesn’t want information.
They want 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.

So before writing anything, ask:

- What decision is this person struggling with?
- What trade-off are they sitting on?
- What pressure are they not saying out loud?

That’s where conversion starts.

Not in topics. 
In tension.

Most people write about topics, but the LinkedIn posts that convert well focus on resolving a tension of their readers.

He wrote one LinkedIn post.

And received 3 consulting requests.

Last week, I met a senior exec who’s starting to write again.

He shared a simple observation about an industry trend on the post.
No big storytelling.
No “strategy thread.”
No viral numbers to brag about.

But three companies reached out.
Not because the post was perfect.
Because it made his 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦.

This is the part most people miss.

LinkedIn is not only a stage.
It’s a 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘦.

The right people don’t always “like.”
They screenshot.
They forward it internally.
Then they reach out when the timing is right.

I’ve built two businesses largely because of this exact dynamic on LinkedIn.

If this feels worth testing, here’s a simple way to do it this weekend.

1. Pick one trend that matters right now.
2. Write one clear take on it.
3. Add one real example you’ve seen.
4. Name one implication leaders will face next.
5. End with one question you’re still thinking about.

Post it.
Then do this for 6 weeks.

1-2 posts a week is enough.
It could be a trend, an insight, a win, a lesson learned.

The goal is not “content.”
The goal is becoming the person whose thinking shows up.

When that happens, opportunities can arrive surprisingly.

Don't let lack of engagement stop you from posting on LinkedIn. The decision makers usually don't engage with your post, but when time is right they'll come to you pre-sold.

1.44 pm. I walked out of the gym.

I had no clue what was about to happen.

This happened yesterday.

I crossed the walkway, stepped over the kerb, took off my shoes, and stepped onto the grass patch. Walking barefoot for 10 minutes had become a routine.  

After walking a bit, I chose the tree with the widest branches and sat down. 

A few minutes later, I heard a buzz. 

I turned my head to the right, trying to locate the sound. "Is that a bunch of insec… whoa. A swarm of bees!"

“Okay. Stay calm. Wear the shoes. Pick the mat. Walk out. It’ll be fine.”
That was my instinctive thought.

Few seconds later, the stings began landing on my face. That 'stay calm thought' panicked along with the rest of me. I threw everything aside and ran toward the gym building, waving my hands around my face and head, trying to keep the bees away.

As I entered, the security guard pushed the gym ledger toward me.

“Bee attack! Bee attack!” I shouted.

His eyes widened.
He pulled back the ledger, closed it, and held it like a weapon.

“Hit them!” I shouted, still waving my hands around my head.

One bee stung my left eye.

I closed my eyes.
The stings kept coming.
What's taking him time?

I opened the other eye to check. 
He was circling me in like in a strange ceremonial dance, ledger raised high, searching for an angle that wouldn’t involve hitting me.

At that moment, we both realized that the bees had a new target.

Him.

He threw away the ledger, shouted "Sir, go to the restroom and close the door," and darted down the corridor.

I locked myself in, splashed water on my face and noticed a bunch of barbed stingers sticking out of my face. 

In under 30 seconds, I had gone from a peaceful monk under a tree to a wounded soldier.

"This will sting a bit," said the nurse in the ER, preparing the injections.

𝘈𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦? I thought. She looked confused seeing the smile on my swollen face.

I looked around. 

A whiteboard showed the day's count. 

Patient count: 20
Admissions: 2

𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘢 10% 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦, the marketer in me calculated. 
𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘎𝘰𝘥, 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘥𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 #3.

"Lie down for 20 mins. If you don't feel swelling in the throat, breathing difficulty, or dizziness, you're free to go home," she said.

Lying on the ER bed, I couldn't stop thinking: 

- What if this happened while on a trek in the forest?
- What if many many more of them had stung me?
- How lucky I was to reach the restroom in time, and remove venomous barbs?

Anything could have happened in that minute.

That was a strong realization.

We may carry titles, degrees, wins, and accomplishments.
But things can change in minutes.

That realization humbles you.
If you're doing the right things.
If you're living your purpose.

That clarity gave me a renewed sense of purpose. 
I feel it strongly right now and hope to keep it front and center.

Life can change any minute. Live your purpose.

Low likes on your posts maynot be a bad thing.

Most people read without reacting.

They do not like.
They do not share.
They do not comment.

They just 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦.

Then one day, a message arrives.

“I’ve been following for months.”
“I saved a bunch of your posts.”
“Can we talk?”

This is why “small numbers” can still create real opportunities.

Public engagement is a noisy signal - still a signal.
But private trust is the real one.

Here is what usually happens when posts convert with low reach:

- The writing is for decision-makers.
- Decision-makers do not perform online.
- They decide quietly, then reach out.

This matches my own experience.

Around 80% of my clients were quiet readers first.
They read for months.
Then they reached out.

One client was able to hire a senior leader because that person had been reading her LinkedIn posts for a while - and actually wanted to work with her.

So if a post gets fewer likes this week, it may still be doing its real work.

Instead of changing your style, stay in conversation with your readers.
It may already be reaching the right people,
in the way they actually read.

But not without a problem.

I had already published tens of books.
Written hundreds of articles.

Still, it took me over an year to start.

When I finally did, I posted daily.
I was consistent. I was serious.

From the outside, it looked solid.
Inside, I was tense. 

The posts were fine. But they weren’t spreading. 
They weren’t being repeated. They weren’t changing how people saw me.

And that’s the difference.

Because real authority is simple: people remember your words, repeat your ideas, and trust your thinking without being reminded.

That wasn’t happening yet.

𝗜𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗺𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝘆.

It wasn’t strategy, consistency, or content quality.

It was something simpler. Subtler.

Authority rarely collapses loudly.

It erodes slowly in language.

Small phrases.
Soft qualifiers.
Uncertain tones.

Nothing dramatic.
Just subtle dilution.

In private rooms, thinking may be sharp.

But in written form, it often becomes smaller.

Language signals 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨.

“I think…”
“I’m not an expert, but…”
“I’ll try…”

These aren’t humble.

They’re invisible.

Markets don’t judge intent.
They interpret signal.

And signal... compounds.

Upgrade language,
and perception shifts.

Upgrade perception,
and authority compounds.

Our language builds perception. Perception helps build authority. Fix the phrases, and improve authority. Here is how.

An empty chair changed Amazon.

It changed my writing too.

In the early days of Amazon, Jeff Bezos kept an empty chair in meetings.

It represented the customer.

When discussions drifted into internal politics or clever strategy, someone would point to the chair and ask,
“What would the customer think?”

The chair wasn’t decoration.
It was discipline.

Around 2014, when I began writing my first book, I borrowed that idea.

I placed an empty chair in front of me.

Not symbolically.
Physically.

Before writing a chapter, I would imagine my ideal reader sitting there. 
Someone stuck. Someone capable. 
Someone trying to solve a real problem.

If a paragraph didn’t move the reader forward, I rewrote it.
If a section felt intelligent but unnecessary, I deleted it.
If a line felt clever instead of clear, I changed it.

The chair forced clarity.

It kept the book from becoming a collection of insights.
It had to remain a guided movement.

That one practice changed how I write.

And it’s something I now insist my clients do when writing their books.

Not because it sounds profound.
Because it prevents dilution.

Most books fail in one way.

They 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘵.

They expand beyond their promise.
They try to impress instead of serve.

The empty chair helps solve that.

It keeps the promise visible.
It keeps the reader central.
It keeps the writing honest.

A book that respects the chair earns something powerful.

𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵.

And trust compounds faster than marketing ever will.
